To wonder who are these people who don't iron

And to wonder what their secrets are? I hear it all the time and have no idea how they manage it. It would be my idea of nirvana not to iron again.

I hate ironing and hardly ever do it.

My work clothes are mostly dry clean only, so come back from the dry cleaner crease-free.

I don't really care if the clothes I wear around the house/ in the garden are crumpled.

And I just don't get the whole concept of ironing towels/ knickers/ bed linen! Hmm

Jantutor · 16/09/2016 15:50

OMG I'm in the presence of truly liberated individuals (I bow).

I iron everything except socks and bras... In truth my mom comes to stay regularly and gets through any laundry I haven't done. She's a bit fanatical ... pursing her lips and giving me sideways dirty looks when I said I was going to stop ironing my husbands string vests, 8-y-o daughter's knickers and t.towels.

I guess the chip doesn't fly far from the block as, the idea of sleeping on an un-ironed sheet fills me with dread Shock

Cellardoor23 · 16/09/2016 15:51

Im guessing they have a very good tumble dryer. I never had to iron anything it was great. Then it broke and I got this combined washing/drying machine. It's crap. Even when I put it on 'ready to wear' it's not!

furryminkymoo · 16/09/2016 15:51

I wear mostly stretchy clothes, jeggings, tops etc.

for work think nice dresses with jackets and heels etc.

PGPsabitch · 16/09/2016 15:52

I don't iron. Dh and I only own a handful of clothes that need it but since they are special occasion clothes they only get ironed then. By dh.

I know someone who irons flannels and socks. I just don't get it. Why make that work for yourself?

browneyedgirll · 16/09/2016 15:52

I'm with you OP. I iron, I can't stop myself, I can't bring myself to put creased clothes away. I blame my mother she is obsessed with ironing. I bloody hate it tho

TheWingingItMum · 16/09/2016 15:53

I don't iron! I bloody hate it

Twig45 · 16/09/2016 16:20

I think if you start ironing things they are more creased-I bought 3 pairs boys school trousers and one pair was really ceased from shop so I dusted iron off and ironed then now I always know which pair they are when they come out of washing mashing as more creased than other pairs so I have to smooth them down more . So lesson is don't ever iron and you won't need to 😃

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 16/09/2016 16:26

I don't iron. Another vote for fold from the dryer!

StickyProblem · 16/09/2016 16:54

I fold from the drier, and wear lots of polyester! Natural fabrics are the ones you have to iron.

LavenderRains · 16/09/2016 17:00

vintage my mother also despairs of me! She irons her sheets, quilt covers and pillow cases.
My iron is covered in dustGrin

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 16/09/2016 17:18

P1nkPOppy, your post made me laugh out loud 😄
When I was younger, and I had a big family at home, including DH, I loved ironing, because it was me time, all mine. I could plan and daydream, as much as I liked.
There's only me now, so I choose not to !

FarAwayHills · 16/09/2016 17:25

What are all these non iron clothes? Does everyone live in stretchy leggings?

CelticPromise · 16/09/2016 17:51

D'you know, I quite like the idea of ironed bed linen. But not enough to actually iron any.

Didn't a wise person once say something about how you will never lie on your death bed wishing you had spent more time flattening clothes?

FrizzyNoodles · 16/09/2016 17:56

I never iron. Waste of time I swear ironed clothes crease more easily.
Use fabric softener and give them a shake before hanging them neatly and as straight as possible on the airer then hang them in the wardrobe when dry.

LadyPenelope68 · 16/09/2016 17:58

Everything gets folded from the tumble drier and barely anything needs ironing.

I don't iron. Maybe others notice it. But who cares. If someone is to judge me for having a creased t shirt or duvet cover, it's their problem.

Both DH and I have a casual dress code at work. DH wears tshirts. I wear jersey tops. DD wear polos to school so no shirt either.

HeadDreamer · 16/09/2016 18:06

I do a crease test on clothes before I buy too. Definitely squeeze and wring it and see if it creases.

MrsRyanGosling15 · 16/09/2016 18:10

Surely all these people that don't iron must not work or work very little? If your at home all day and you have the time to wait on the dryer and fold stuff as soon as it's done, then fine. I usually only have time to stick the dryer on as we are leaving on last thing at night. I don't think I could stand the mess of having wet clothes on hangers drying round the house. The amount of washing we get through with 5 of us, the house would look like a laundrette! If I see clothes and I like them I buy them, I would never stop myself buying something because I couldn't be bothered to iron it.

RachelRagged · 16/09/2016 18:14

Oh thank god . haha I will show my DM this as I'm sure she thinks I am about the only non ironer out there.

0hCrepe · 16/09/2016 18:16

I work ft (when not on mat leave anyway). I don't hover over the dryer but nor can I put it on till after work. Dh sometimes works from home and will put them in the dryer but there they stay till I'm back.

Duckafuck · 16/09/2016 18:18

My stuff isn't very creasy so I just wash and wear, if something really needs it I'll iron it but otherwise I cba.

sausagepoo · 16/09/2016 18:21

I have never even owned an iron. Both work full time in professional jobs. Maybe I look creased, I don't know. I just fold things after they've dried in the tumble drier. For my son's school shirts I buy marks and Spencer's ultimate non iron shirts and although not perfect they are OK looking. I avoid buying stuff that looks like it may need ironing. life is far far too short for ironing creases from fabric!
