To wonder who are these people who don't iron

And to wonder what their secrets are? I hear it all the time and have no idea how they manage it. It would be my idea of nirvana not to iron again.

FarAwayHills · 16/09/2016 14:48

Work shirts, school uniforms, summer dresses and tshirts always seem to need ironing but I draw the line at sheets, t-towels and pants.

MyCatsHateMLMtoo · 16/09/2016 14:51

I'm another who only buys none-iron clothing. Occasionally something slips past my checklist Grin but if that happens I wear it rarely, only ironing when absolutely necessary. Careful pegging out and hanging straight from tumble dryer take care of most things. Never iron bedding/towels etc.

theDudesmummy · 16/09/2016 14:51

I do not iron. I fold straight after dryer or hang up clothes on hangers damp so they don't need ironing. DH irons my work shirts and trousers and DS's school shirts. Adult daughters don't seem to iron (that I have noticed), but they seem to look fine anyway!

aquashiv · 16/09/2016 14:57

I am def in the category of if it looks like it needs ironing I move away ....silk cheap cotton linen ....
I wear good quality work clothes that really don't need ironing....the kids only see me ironing their labels on.
I guess we are just one of those families Smile..

HormonalHeap · 16/09/2016 15:01

My cleaner does it- dh's food shirts go to dry cleaners

Purplebluebird · 16/09/2016 15:04

I don't wear stuff that needs ironing, really! We iron shirts and the odd blouse etc, but not anything day to day (I'm SAHM and my other half works in a casual office). I don't see the problem. My mum ironed everything, and I just... am so happy I didn't choose that route.

RaspberryBeret34 · 16/09/2016 15:05

I barely iron (never did up till 2 weeks ago!) but have a DS who has just started school so I give his trousers and polo shirts a very quick once over just so he doesn't look too creased. Everything else gets dried on the line or a drying rack and carefully folded straight from there. They look fine and my clothes tend to be jeans/jersey tops and dresses/knitwear so don't get too creased. Bed linen looks pretty creased but I embrace the shabby chic look Grin

RaspberryBeret34 · 16/09/2016 15:07

My DS (4) asked my mum what the iron and ironing board was a few months ago as he'd never seen them Blush.

MephistoMarley · 16/09/2016 15:08

Me. My secret is not giving a fuck about creased clothes.

Twunk · 16/09/2016 15:09

I don't iron (well only rarely). Mostly line dry so "finger press" as much as I can be arsed.

I tend to wear knitted fabrics.
DH wears jeans and t-shirts to work.
Boys don't have school uniform so wear t-shirts or similar to school.

Creases drop out eventually Wink

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 16/09/2016 15:10

I only iron the summer - fecking linen tops, cotton short, etc.

Hate it though Grin

e1y1 · 16/09/2016 15:12

balloon nothing of ours has ever shrunk in the tumble dryer.

a lot of clothes come out of the tumble dryer crease free, saying that, I do Iron though.

origamiwarrior · 16/09/2016 15:12

DH irons his work shirts. Nothing else gets ironed (other than a beaver scarf).

Unless something is designed to look "crisp" (like a work shirt) I don't see the point. Any creases drop out with your body heat upon wearing.

For a very special occasion, I might hang my outfit in the steam of the shower then put it on, and immediately pull it taught to remove any residual creases.

OliviaBensonOnAGoodDay · 16/09/2016 15:14

I don't iron. Waste of life. Just stop buying clothes that need ironing.

MIL says she can tell. I care not.

origamiwarrior · 16/09/2016 15:17

OP - why don't you give it a try, with your T-shirt. Don't iron it, just fold it and put it straight away in the drawer. Wear it and check after 10 mins to see if you can tell it hadn't been ironed.

I think people who do iron, think that the wrinkledness they see when they pick up an item from the ironing pile, is how it will look when worn, but it doesn't! Stretching clothes to put them on, and then your body heat, leaves the fabric soft and crease-free.

Try it!

MrsWhippie · 16/09/2016 15:23

Humphreycobblers it's the tumbler that does the ironing for you! You have to be there to take the clothes out while they're hot though, if it stops and they settle in a pile you've had it.

Tanith · 16/09/2016 15:25

My Health Visitor told me she used to fold up clothes, then put them under the mattress to press.

Me, I love ironing, especially shirts, but rarely get time. DS goes back to school with well-ironed clothes, but still manages to look as though he slept in them. The rest of it is as and when needed: non-iron clothes, carefully folded from the line whenever possible.

ImAMorningPerson · 16/09/2016 15:26

I don't.

FaithAscending · 16/09/2016 15:28

My tumble dryer only creases if I over dry the clothes.

Klchi · 16/09/2016 15:36

I don't iron! Shake damp clothes out well then hang to dry in hangers!

BeMorePanda · 16/09/2016 15:37

I don't iron. I don't have a tumble dryer.

I hang many clothes to dry on hangers.
Everything else - whatever - I am not bothered.

I have a professional job, and though our office is fairly casual dress I present OK.

I do have an iron as I like to sew occasionally and pressing is an essential part of the process. I don't have an ironing board though.

If I was going to a wedding I might iron something. I don't go to many weddings.

BeMorePanda · 16/09/2016 15:38

I don't iron. It's surprisingly easy, I'm doing it right now.
Grin Star
me too!

TeddyBee · 16/09/2016 15:42

DH irons a shirt. Occasionally. I very rarely iron beautiful formal clothes for the DC/me once or twice a month. Other than that our clothes do not require ironing. My mother has no time, none at all, her house is a pigsty and she has no time for herself/cleaning/fixing her shitty house. But she irons for several hours a week. When she was still working practically full time and caring for my severely disabled dad she ironed even more, because apparently HIS PANTS needed to be ironed.

School uniform in particular does not get ironed. I'm not sure why it would ever need it - they wear non-iron trousers, cotton jumpers and polo shirts FFS.

funfunapple · 16/09/2016 15:46

I iron a bit because I'm a so but 90% of clothes don't need ironing if you tumble dry them, it eliminates virtually all creases

Vintagegirl1 · 16/09/2016 15:49

I stopped ironing about 3 years ago (exception of school uniforms) No one even noticed. My sister's also don't iron and my mum despairs of us. She has just for some unfathomable reason bought me one of those steam generator iron things. Perhaps she thought I would have a relevaton? It has lain unopened in my hall for 2 weeks.
