To buy a beauty advent calendar at £95-£150 ?

Hi guys ,

I've been wanting the Selfridges advent calendars(£95) since they started doing them but could never part with the money . This year, I'm seriously considering buying it or the Charlotte Tilbury one (£150). It will be out in October and usually sells out quick and then I'll need to get it on Amazon for extortionate prices - so, I need to decide pretty quick if I should put money aside for one of them.

Has anyone bought either previously? Are they worth the money? Would you aplurge and treat yourself for Christmas?

Link to the 2016 ones, they all look fab. If you can afford it, go for it! Ive got a bomb cosmetics one and torn between loccitane and rituals (one just isnt enough). I dont wear makeup but if you feel the price is reasonable buy it.

I was tempted to get this just because it looks cool but woukdnt use it. www.reallyree.com/2016/09/too-faced-grande-hotel-cafe-palette-swatches

I had the selfridges one last year it was brilliant! Lots of mini perfumes as well as high end skincare and beauty.definitely worth it. I would never get the benefit one again - as someone said upthread was 25% stationery and hair clips.
There is a Kiehls one this year that looks good

Fintress · 16/09/2016 23:39

OMG, I seriously cannot be arsed with Christmas as all our babies are grown up and flown the coop but I WANT that Liberty advent calendar. Not even going to drop a hint, will buy it myself 😄

AndNowItsSeven · 16/09/2016 23:52

When does the elc one come out?

MorrisZapp · 17/09/2016 00:00

Brilliant link!

HemanOrSheRa · 17/09/2016 00:10

The Liberty one has a FULL SIZED BAIES DIPTYQUE CANDLE Shock. That is my favourite scented candle in the whole world and the calendar itself is so gorgeous. I really need it.

TheLastHeatwave · 17/09/2016 00:12

Beauty - meh.

But someone mentioned stationery...now you're talking!!

I love the Lego ones too!

TheLastHeatwave · 17/09/2016 00:40

Heman. Have you seen this one!

Links to any stationery ones most welcome!

HemanOrSheRa · 17/09/2016 01:05

I have now Heat. I was stupid enough to click on the link Ceaser posted Grin. I've spent the last 50 mins or so googling beauty advent calendars. The hoohah over the M&S one went straight over my head last year. But they are all so lovely. Off to look at stationery ones now.....

Rainatnight · 17/09/2016 01:07

These are so amazing.

Stupid question, though - do you give them as a present 12 days before Christmas so that people can open them in the run up, like a normal advent calendar?

FeelingSmurfy · 17/09/2016 01:09

Posting again, this is the Stationery advent calendar I have ordered

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/09/2016 01:15

A couple of years ago, I got the Boots one.............two of the compartments were EMPTY Angry

I waited until it was after the 24th then took the whole thing apart in the hope that the missing items had slipped out,, they hadn't.
The calender hadn't been damaged/opened and I had no way of proving the items were missing. One was the Protect &Perfect Day Cream,.

MelanieCheeks · 17/09/2016 07:46

Rain, you can do what you like with them! If you wanted to give them as a present, then in advance of the 12/24/25 days would make sense.

Keletubbie · 17/09/2016 08:28

I had Benefit 2 years on the trot - not worth the money - big M&S last year and it was lush. I might go Liberty this year...

trixymalixy · 17/09/2016 09:00

The M&S one looks like it has some fabulous treats in it this year!

HemanOrSheRa · 17/09/2016 10:13

The M&S one does look good, contents wise. But the Liberty one is so beautiful to look at. Decisions, decisions. I must say it is good to have a fun and frivolous dilemma for once Grin.

Idliketobeabutterfly · 17/09/2016 10:19

M & S
Lookfantastic
youbeautydiscovery

All worth a look

MorrisZapp · 17/09/2016 10:23

The Liberty one could be repurposed for life, dare I say it could form part of a hallowed 'Christmas Tradition'.

So it's a sensible investment if you love your kids.

Discopanda · 17/09/2016 10:26

This is only £13 www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Technic-Nail-Varnish-Advent-Calendar-Christmas-Countdown-Nail-Polish-Gift-Set-/191966613609?hash=item2cb21a1069:g:azIAAOSw9IpX0sk6

Tempted to get it for myself because every year my kids eat my chocolate!

HemanOrSheRa · 17/09/2016 10:28

You make a very good point Morris. And there was I, selfishly working out that for roughly the same price as the Liberty box I could get the Rituals, M&S and LookFantastic (which does) ones. What was I thinking? DS will be thrilled!

MUjunkie · 17/09/2016 10:33

Oh OP!!! So much for wanting us to talk you out of it! You've talked us into it!!! Why didn't I know about these???

MissPattie · 17/09/2016 19:22

The m and S one is sold out? Or has it yet to go on sale?

HemanOrSheRa · 17/09/2016 19:27

I think it goes on sale on 10th Nov Pattie. I believe it's £35 with £35 worth of purchases.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 17/09/2016 19:29

My sister bought the Boots one last year and gave me all the samples she didn't like, which was a bonus.

She didn't encounter any empty doors though, 70isa, that sort of shit can ruin your Christmas. What a let down.
