To ask what expensive thing you have which you think was well worth the cost?

I got my bugaboo out of the garage today. It's nearly ten years old and I'm giving it to my sister for her baby. I can't believe what good nick it's in. Everything fabric wise can be washed, I've ordered one new wheel and tilt buttons because they were a bit dodgy but everything else is perfect. I've also ordered a new mattress obviously. I think it's fab that you can go on the bugaboo site and order parts for something nearly a decade old.

What do you have that was expensive but so so worth it.

My lovely English leather suede seated show saddle.

TwatbadgingCuntfuckery · 10/09/2016 21:18

spinning wheel - £400. Its just so well made, works beautifully and takes up a small amount of space and I just love using it.

bed and mattress that cost nearly a grand Blush worth it just for the sleep and pain free back and shagging on it it doesn't squeak Grin

The mid century oak haberdashers shop drawers - its 6ft tall! - that I only paid £70 for but is worth close to £800. It holds all of my art supplies, Camera equipment and then some and I'd have happily paid full price for it. I'm actually looking for another one to match.

Cary2012 · 10/09/2016 21:19

I too love my woodburner Vaguebutexciting! Was in the house when we moved in, so can't say it was expensive one off, but I wouldn't be without it.

Getting a bit peed off with this Indian summer, roll on proper Autumn.

Didn't have the central heating on once last year, woodburner heated the whole cottage.

I can sit and watch the flames for hours, how sad am I?

cushion53 · 10/09/2016 21:20

Business class on BA. Total indulgence but 8 hour flights become tolerable. My one extravagance.

MangoMoon · 10/09/2016 21:25

HateSummer, moglick & any others who have a Lumea:
Does it really, really work? As in permanently removed the hair?

I had about 6 months of laser hair removal done years ago professionally on underarms but had to stop before it was completely vanished as it was too expensive - I've dithered over getting a Lumea because of the price over the last few years but if it really is worth it then I will probably save up!

VagueButExcitlng · 10/09/2016 21:27

Yes Cary me too! I've had a bag of logs delivered and the chimney is being swept next week. Roll on winter!

Pasithea · 10/09/2016 21:27

Horses and made to measure saddles.
Tempur mattress.

EveOnline2016 · 10/09/2016 21:33

My computer. I can be on mumsnet in less that a minute from it being completely off. Best £1700 spent.

Cary2012 · 10/09/2016 21:34

Vague, have you ever burnt apple tree wood? Smell is amazing. Takes a long while to dry, my dad chopped up an old apple tree, dried it for a year and brought it round. Just such a lovely smell.

ChangedToday · 10/09/2016 21:35

My British citizenship last autum. Not wildly proud of it now but it's saved me from a lot of anxiety and worry (I tend to over think things)

BaconAndAvocado · 10/09/2016 21:38

My Omega Constellation watch. It was my first Christmas present from DH, it cost £1100 and it still looks utterly beautiful.

GreyBird84 · 10/09/2016 21:40

I actually thought not that much but in reality....

5K on laser eye surgery
100K on extension & total renovation. Underfloor heating throughout, bespoke painted kitchen & bedroom furniture, utility room, a brilliant garden for DS. When it's finished & we are moved in its genuinely going to increase our quality of life. A garage, a bigger freezer! List is endless.
Cordless dyson
Nutribullet
My eternity ring - totally brings my wedding ring & engagement ring together & brings me joy everyday.
iCandy peach
Storksak sofia - the most I've spent on a bag & the most beautiful changing bag I could find

Northernlurker · 10/09/2016 21:44

There's some seriously good stuff on this thread!

Not that expensive but I love my Nespresso Coffee machine.

Lunchboxlewiswillyoumarryme · 10/09/2016 21:47

My tattoos.they make me feel like me.they are the most I've ever spent on myself, four huge ones and four medium ones

Lunchboxlewiswillyoumarryme · 10/09/2016 21:48

And my gym membership..£40 a month well spent.with out it ,I'd be 30 stone by xmas

poisonedbypen · 10/09/2016 21:49

Quooker boiling water tap. Gives me a smug feeling every time I use it.
Worst expensive thing & American style fridge freezer. I like them but ours is rubbish and I do hate the narrow freezer, everything falls out. When this one eventually dies (it's been almost but not quite dying all the time we've had it) I will replace it with one with the freezer underneath a double width fridge.

witsender · 10/09/2016 21:49

Ah yes! You reminded me...the log burner that went in on Monday.Grin

itsalldyingout · 10/09/2016 21:49

CrochetQuaverMinim - get a Steampod. PERFECT hair that stays that way for days.

Confidently rec'd by someone who has the hair belonging to the lovechild of Leo Sayer and Crystal Tips.

Expensive, but with regards to my hair, the BEST money I've ever spent. I'm crap at blow-drying and have a problem with my left hand so use an Ego Trip dryer as it's so small and light (but still dries my hair quickly and quite well considering my abilities). GHDs ruined my hair and gradually made it harder to keep in condition and looking good. A quick swipe with my Steampod and my hair is perfect. I can actually style with it and get the resulting shiny, bouncy, hair-ad hair.

RhodaBorrocks · 10/09/2016 21:49

My collection of Hotter shoes. So comfy and hard wearing. I have 4 pairs of shoes and a pair of boots. I love them because they are comfy enough that I can wear heels again (joint problems) and as the styles I go for are quite unusual I always get loads of comments and compliments. This Winter I'm getting a second pair of boots even though the first pair are still going strong despite daily wear throughout Winter for the past 2 years. I never thought I'd be someone who paid £80+ for shoes but they're worth saving for!

Aside from that my Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 inch tablet (bought for £450 in 2014) is still going strong and does all I need. I will be happy to buy another Samsung when I need to as they are so long lasting.

JellyBelli · 10/09/2016 21:50

My PC, The Big Shiny.
My separates sound system. It wasnt that expensive for what it is. Around £400.
My precious bottle of Guerlain Mitsouko perfume.

converseandjeans · 10/09/2016 21:52

Miele washing machine
Skoda - not luxury but v v reliable
Micro scooters for the kids
Ridgeback tradition bike
Ercol sofa refurb

Dozyoldtwonk · 10/09/2016 21:52

Love this thread!

Another fan of the Bugaboo - definitely worth the money.
Mulberry handbags - I have several, some years old, one used daily & still looking wonderful (in fact, possibly better with age).
GHDs - still going strong after a decade including giving them frostbite one winter when the central heating failed.
Hunter wellies & Barbour jacket - survived many a hairy dog walk.
My UGG boots - an unpopular choice on mn I know, but the genuine ones are super comfy, keep my feet toaster & are still standing in good nick after 6 years (wearing them every winter, all weathers).
My Chanel make up brushes. Pure luxury, wouldn't use any other.
M&S food. No other compares. Worth the extra (just try to buy less).
Expensive shoes - worth the money, notice the difference when wearing cheap(er) ones.
SMEG fridge & Kitchen Aid mixer - both still looking beautiful almost a decade on from purchase.
MacBook Air & iPhone - beautiful pieces of kit, & they do their job well!
The White Company bedding for us & DC.

Reading that back, I'm rather indulgent! I tend to buy things I know will last. I am a big believer in getting what you pay for, most of the time (not always - expensive make up is an example). in my defence I'm more than partial to a Primark/ASDA/Pound shop bargain

Secretsandlies222 · 10/09/2016 21:58

My breast augmentation many years ago. May seem shallow but they have given me the biggest boost in confidence. I just love them.

MrsMook · 10/09/2016 22:02

Leather recliner sofas. Good pocket sprung matress. No more stiff backs.
Marble fireplace and woodburner- the lounge now has a lovely focal point and character.
Hotter shoes. If my feet aren't happy, neither am I, and I can even be halfway to stylish in them.
Our honeymoon- travelling around Aisa. We survived just our company that long and came back still married and in love, so that boded well!
My wedding dress. I felt amazing, and it's part of happy memories of the best day.
