To ask what expensive thing you have which you think was well worth the cost?

I got my bugaboo out of the garage today. It's nearly ten years old and I'm giving it to my sister for her baby. I can't believe what good nick it's in. Everything fabric wise can be washed, I've ordered one new wheel and tilt buttons because they were a bit dodgy but everything else is perfect. I've also ordered a new mattress obviously. I think it's fab that you can go on the bugaboo site and order parts for something nearly a decade old.

What do you have that was expensive but so so worth it.

John Lewis mattress - weighs as much as a small bloody car which is how you know it's good quality!

Judge stove top kettle - enamel and steel, will last a lifetime.

Old pair of Doc Martens which lasted me 20 (!) years and only fell to bits two years ago. New ones not up to the same manufacturing standards so will not be replacing. Also yy to Kickers shoes and boots - superb quality.

Wool-filled duvet - no more overheating in bed!

One piece solid steel kitchen knives - again, will last forever.

The Creative Director at Toni & Guy cuts my hair. My hair always looks good. I get compliments.

Our superking, pure Hungarian goose down duvet...it's like sleeping under a cloud of fairy gossamer.

Chanel foundation & concealer - I'm 46, but my skin looks much, much younger.

My Marc Jacob's biker boots...must be 10 years old, but still look amazing.

ChristmasZombie · 10/09/2016 20:40

My Ergobaby carrier. I bought it in 2013, before they were stocked in the UK and had to have it imported. It ended up costing me the best part of £150, but it's the best £150 I ever spent. On baby number 2 now, used almost daily, washed countless times and still going strong.

Parker pen set, customised - four figure price tag but worth every penny.

Pominoz1 · 10/09/2016 20:42

Well I feel a bit poor after reading this :) we were a bit better off a few years ago and treated ourselves to an amazing mattress and new bed which I chose. DH moaned about the price but every night now he goes to bed murmuring 'I love my bed'. Oh and I have a Thermomix which he bought for me a couple of years ago for my birthday ... amazing piece of kit.

redexpat · 10/09/2016 20:43

Ghds. 90 quid in 2005.

My beautiful fountain pen that my Dad bought me for sixth form in 1997.

LotisBlue · 10/09/2016 20:44

My bed - we bought a decent king size bed after my waters broke on our old battered IKEA one. It makes such a difference in terms of comfort, and has enough room for both children to sleep with us if they want to.

Tripp trap high chair - comfortable, easy to clean, well made and looks good.

crayfish · 10/09/2016 20:44

My cats. Nearly a grand for both but they bring me joy every single day and 7 years later I think that is value for money!

My Dubarry boots. At £325 are the most money I have ever spend on clothes but they are worth every penny.

LotisBlue · 10/09/2016 20:45

Oh, and my manduca sling, ds is still carried in it daily at ten months

OneInAMillionYou · 10/09/2016 20:46

Air conditioning upstairs. Best money we ever spent on our house, couldn't be without it now.

MozzchopsThirty · 10/09/2016 20:47

This thread is making me want to get a new credit card and blow money I don't have on:

A north face parka
A dyson fan
An oxblood mulberry shoulder bag

ihatethecold · 10/09/2016 20:50

What's a thermomix?

ninnypoo · 10/09/2016 20:51

My glasses! Could have gotten cheaper frames (ended up about £200 with lenses treatments) but I feel so much better about myself putting on glasses I love every morning.

Also nominating my MacBook Pro- bought with a bonus and would never go back to Windows.

witsender · 10/09/2016 20:53

Ooooh, what fun.

Bose Bluetooth speaker thing
Wool duvet
Kenwood Chef
Nutri ninja
Our little house
The old caravan we bought years ago that still gives us fab holidays
Dermalogica skincare...makes such a difference to me.

TheTurtleMoves · 10/09/2016 20:57

Best non-property, non-serious cash expensive thing was my Ergo sling. Bought off eBay in depths of PFB-induced anxiety about sleep and then used daily for 2 years and in the cupboard for the next one. I love it.

jeaux90 · 10/09/2016 21:05

My Joseph recycling bin from John Lewis. No one should ever spend 200 quid on a bin by omfg it's a life changer :)

JasperDamerel · 10/09/2016 21:06

The extension to my house.

Not really bought, but hiring an independent midwife for the birth of DC2.

My beautiful stretchy Moby sling with a satin panel.

Celtic sheepskin slippers.

My Doc Martens which I've worn almost every day for 2 years.

VagueButExcitlng · 10/09/2016 21:08

Mine is the first thing I bought when I started working full time after years of living on beans at the end of the month.

It's my woodburning stove. I got a decent one and paid proper fitters to install it rather than get a cheapo off eBay and get it done by cowboys. It looks amazing and heats the whole house. I use it most days in the winter. I can't wait to light it. I think it will be cold enough any day now!

Total cost was just under £2k but will have saved a few hundred in gas bills already!

Ireallydontseewhy · 10/09/2016 21:11

Apart from dc and housing:

Rigby and peller.

mediterranean sea temperatures on holiday.

Highlights and all over colour - except when they go a bit wrong!

imonaplane · 10/09/2016 21:12

Above all - my dogs. My house - I love it! My BMW - 15 years old and I love as much now as when it was new. Our bed - Mattress was nearly £3000 but so worth it.

Paddingtonthebear · 10/09/2016 21:12

Another thing I just remembered, we don't have it anymore but the Uppababy Vista pram was an excellent buy when we didn't have a car for the first two years of being parents

snowgirl1 · 10/09/2016 21:13

My Dynastar Intuitiv skis. Many happy memories of ski trips (including our honeymoon). Sadly, they need replaced now but I'm struggling to find anything that compares.

Paddingtonthebear · 10/09/2016 21:14

We have a Dyson fan at my work office, cost £400 and we all prefer the cheap one from Argos Grin

snowgirl1 · 10/09/2016 21:15

Oh and my Fitflops. Expensive for a pair of flip flops, but I live in them during the warmer months.

BonnieF · 10/09/2016 21:15

My car.

It's a BMW M135i Auto 3 door in Estoril blue with a black leather interior.

It has a ridiculously powerful 3 litre twin turbo 6 cylinder engine and rear wheel drive. It is very, very quick but also very smooth, with fantastic handling and unbelievable brakes.

The best bit is that most people have no idea what it is, and just think it's a normal 1 series family hatchback. Until I blast past them......
