I got my bugaboo out of the garage today. It's nearly ten years old and I'm giving it to my sister for her baby. I can't believe what good nick it's in. Everything fabric wise can be washed, I've ordered one new wheel and tilt buttons because they were a bit dodgy but everything else is perfect. I've also ordered a new mattress obviously. I think it's fab that you can go on the bugaboo site and order parts for something nearly a decade old.

What do you have that was expensive but so so worth it.

The dugs! They sleep on my bed at night, I'm with them all the time, I love them.

1Potato2 · 10/09/2016 22:07

Our house. It's detached. I don't have to worry about waking up the neighbours with a crying baby at 3am.

Uppababy vista. Had it 3 years and counting - 7 months into baby number 2. It's true work horse.

My Gucci watch. It was 'only' £650 5 years ago, so not much in the world of expensive watches, but it was pushing the boat out for me. It's black mother of pearl, I wear it every day.

Diamond studs. Again I wear them pretty much every day. About £950. I got them on sale 5 years ago. Similar cut, clarity etc worth about 2k now. Post dc, no way could I spend that. Although ironically, I worked out Dh and I could go to the Maldives annually with the money we spend on childcare. Oh well, good job they are worth it!

AnotherPrickInTheWall · 10/09/2016 22:12

A few paintings that are fetching silly money now. I need to let go of them.

FairyAccess · 10/09/2016 22:12

Diamonds
House
Car
Fancy tv
Apple products Blush. I love them all.

Kids
Cleaner
Gardener
My teeth 😂

(These are not listed in order of importance)

Probably the 4.5k on getting orthodontic work done a few years ago
and the eye watering amount on all DD extra curricular activities- so worth seeing her confidence and skills grow

plominoagain · 10/09/2016 22:17

My house . Cost what I thought was a frightening amount of money at the time ( although in truth no more than an average semi in the Home Counties ) Then half as much again to put things right . But it's my forever home , so I don't care .

My stable yard , built from scratch to my design , by a perfectionist craftsman . I'd live in it myself if big horse would move over .

And my Dubarry's . Cost a fortune but have lived in them for the last 4 years , when I would have spent as much replacing substandard Hunters every few months .

ChameleonCircuit · 10/09/2016 22:22

My Oakley Straight Jacket sunglasses - I have oddly placed ears (Blush) and they're the first pair I've had that haven't given me a headache

Brasher walking boots. £150 but they lasted 15 years.

maz210 · 10/09/2016 22:24

My lovely rise and recline armchair. It cost £580 which seemed like an obscene amount to spend on myself but now that I've got it I really couldn't put a price on being able to get in and out of a chair without assistance. £580 is a very small price to pay for independence and it's a very good match to our other sofas too Grin

runslikethewind · 10/09/2016 22:24

My camera £250, it's dlsr canon one. Great for recording memories but also satisfies the amateur nerd in me too.

building2016 · 10/09/2016 22:33

Oooh, I got British citizenship too, ChangedToday, it does feel safer.

Love my Celtic sheepskin boots for my freezing feet.

Car was pricey mainly due to built in satnav but I LOVE not fiddling around with my phone.

My specs are also pricey due to nice frames and thin lenses but I wear them every day so I can't bear to feel dodgy about them.

Have also used interior designer for various things and I'm sooooooo glad.

Finally, being disabled for four years was very VERY expensive but I'm glad I could afford the help we needed and not worry (financially) about losing my career.

Am very keen on the robot vacuum now.

Madbengalmum · 10/09/2016 22:37

Aside of house, car and jewellery ie large items.
It would be my bed for 15k and the bedding to go with which was about 2k.
Also my duresta sofas. My dog is the best money ever spent though!

dementedma · 10/09/2016 22:44

I don't own a single expensive item. Sad

Pollaidh · 10/09/2016 22:48

Professional model A clarinet (I am not a professional). Plays high notes so easily, and means I don't have to transpose on sight, or play something with 6 sharps on the Bflat.

Otherwise Meindl walking boots (various models), Petzl torches, Uppababy, GHDs, iPhone and macbook, ski boots, Aveda hair products, Dyson handheld, LK Bennett shoes. I tend to buy cheaper versions first, then they break, and then I buy the decent brand and wish I'd done that straight off.

TheoriginalLEM · 10/09/2016 22:49

my kindle Blush

Daytona79 · 10/09/2016 22:56

£400 cordless

£1600 HUSQVARNA Automower for cutting grass

£3500 multimedia Superking bed

Pilgit · 10/09/2016 22:58

My CPAP machine.

The Joseph Joseph bin. Couldn't believe how much DH spent on it but it is genuinely fab. The little details are what makes it - they have thought of everything and it is sturdy and a 10 year guarantee.

My Ebel watch - ridiculous self indulgence but I bought it to celebrate qualifying as a solicitor which given my mental health problems was and still is amazing. Every time I wear it it reminds me of why I've achieved by sheer force of will.

PurpleWithRed · 10/09/2016 23:01

Copper gardening tools from implementations.co.uk. Always sharp, deter slugs and look beautiful. Worth doing the weeding for.

100milesanhour · 10/09/2016 23:10

My latex dunlopillows. They cost me £80 for the pair 6 years ago and still going strong.

They are the comfiest pillows in the world.

n0ne · 10/09/2016 23:13

Our Siemens bean-to-cup coffee machine is 8 years old and still going strong. It was about 400 quid when I bought it and must have produced thousands of excellent cups of coffee by now.

Flowerfae · 10/09/2016 23:17

My Cintiq (graphics tablet) it was about £2500 when I brought it .. been worth it though.

HoneyBunnySunny · 10/09/2016 23:19

My embroidery machine. Just love what it can do. Dh has bought cheaper cars😳

New Rock boots. So comfy despite appearances!

Whitby jet jewellery. Also the collection of Victorian mourning jewellery

School fees. The difference in dds in just a week is unbelievable

Biggest waste of money though. The kitchen aid. £400 quid of candy apple red metal. It's been used once since I bought it 3 months ago. I get pissed off with myself each time i see it!

IPreferCatstoPeople · 10/09/2016 23:24

A painting that made me sob when I saw it.

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 10/09/2016 23:26

Agree about the latex Dunlopillows, I have them too.

PickAChew · 10/09/2016 23:37

I have one of the proper Dualit toasters, too - managed to get a 2 slice one on offer for £80, 11 years ago. The clockwork timer conked out about 3 years ago - a simply DIY £25 replacement sorted that out. One of the elements looks like it's not performing so well, but if that does go, it can be replaced easily, too.

Far less wasteful than the cheaper brands that were dying after less than 2 years, and not much cheaper, too.
