To ask what expensive thing you have which you think was well worth the cost?

I got my bugaboo out of the garage today. It's nearly ten years old and I'm giving it to my sister for her baby. I can't believe what good nick it's in. Everything fabric wise can be washed, I've ordered one new wheel and tilt buttons because they were a bit dodgy but everything else is perfect. I've also ordered a new mattress obviously. I think it's fab that you can go on the bugaboo site and order parts for something nearly a decade old.

What do you have that was expensive but so so worth it.

My bed. It's a midrange vispring mattress which cost £3k plus the bed (another couple of thousand). I also have really good quality linen which I wash every week sometimes twice and it is worth every penny. Whenever we sleep anywhere else my husband and I both moan and it is without doubt the best £5k I have ever ever spent. Some of their mattresses are over £20k...... If I won the lottery!!

IDismyname · 12/09/2016 09:37

NewMum - no, not Lymington. I could certainly drive there in about an hour and a half from my home Grin

Niggit · 12/09/2016 09:50

My Daihatsu Copen two seater convertible. I loved them since the first time I saw one on Top Gear - never thought I'd actually own one, but thanks to DH and DS helping out I've had the Yellow Peril for five years, and she still brings a smile to my face every time I see her parked outside.

londonmummy1966 · 12/09/2016 09:56

I have been asking DH for a Mulberry Bayswater every year since they came out. Even with both dds nagging it hasn't materialised and he told them it was too expensive (actually less than he spends on his Pret a Manger sandwiches in a year). After all the pps confirming what a wonderful bag it is I am determined that this is the year I'm getting one - (Big birthday in December so it can be a joint present) either he buys it or I will get it myself (on his credit card....)

BorpBorpBorp · 12/09/2016 10:21

Made to measure boots, and the resoling/minor repairs of them every year. They are so comfortable. Worth every penny.

EyeSaidTheFly · 12/09/2016 10:38

Bibbity, I need to know - what did you spend it on? Can't believe no one else has asked!

madeofair · 12/09/2016 10:54

A shit hot lawyer and barrister for SEN, who got my autistic DS a funded place in a top special boarding school where he's absolutely thriving, and the funding covers respite and transport as well.

ElspethFlashman · 12/09/2016 11:36

Dubarry boots are now on my fantasy wish list......

My sister has a pair and although they're a bit wellie shaped, they do look practical and are as good as new. Fab stomping around in the rain. Not the most stylish things though!

shrunkenhead · 12/09/2016 11:49

boarding school.

MrsKoala · 12/09/2016 12:42

I forgot to say Ipl on my arms. I spent my teens and twenties wearing long sleeves and burning my arms with bleach and still being self conscious and getting horrible comments. When I was 30 I had the thick black hairs removed and I can honestly say it changed my life. 10 years later I can barely remember how awful I used to feel about my arms.

Jane2406 · 12/09/2016 13:26

My first (oak) was for a significant birthday & the second (black) I bought myself. They feel quality & have withstood a lot!

blueshoes · 12/09/2016 14:16

Our house
The masses of built in storage we put in
Renting whilst the extension was being done
The dcs' schools
Taking 2 years out on maternity leave (half of that time self-funded)
Continuing to use nursery for dc1 whilst on my maternity leave with dc2.
Working pt for 6 years whilst the dcs were little
Wardrobe of dresses and shoes - my frivolous spending vice

Make up and beauty products - this one is probably NOT worth it. Dh cannot see much difference.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 12/09/2016 14:29

there is a very fine line between "this is a great buy", and people who are just lucky to be affluent and maybe don't realise/appreciate how affluent they are compared to others posting a long list is a giveaway

that's a kind way of putting it

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 12/09/2016 14:31

mine is:

a night Nanny for the first 6 months per child so worth it, saves thousand on sleep deprived depression and therapy
My Chanel bag, works out at £5.75 per wear bargain
My Herve Leger bandage dress, never ages, always flatters

MrsKoala · 12/09/2016 14:44

Ohhhh I've promised myself one of those dresses Stopfuckingshouting, once I'm done with babies and get my body back. I've been coveting one for years. What colour is yours?

(The issue I have is I have no where to wear it so may be donning it in lidl or on the school run Blush )

I'm also coveting a mulberry tessie hobo bag but the Dc will just trash it atm.

MrsKoala · 12/09/2016 14:45

I'm just about to pay £250 for a sleep consultant, I really hope I can come back and post it was the best money I've ever spent.

clemetteattlee · 12/09/2016 14:49

Our fake grass - after years of stressing about the maintenance/death of the lawn we invested in top quality fake grass and it is lovely. Feels natural, looks natural and a 25 year guarantee!

SabineUndine · 12/09/2016 14:52

My iPhone 6 - I had a horrible rubbish android before - and my cat.

You can't put a price on 16 years of moggy cuddles.

stealthsquiggle · 12/09/2016 15:16

Dualit toaster. 20 years old and I have replaced one element in that time.

Our painfully expensive kitchen units which are now 10 years old and look like new when you can find them under the mess

A Tiffany ring which I bought for myself. It's not the most expensive but of jewellery I own, but it's all mine and that makes it special to me.

Lovely bedding. A small luxury which I appreciate every night, and it washes and lasts better than any cheaper stuff we have ever had too.

iminshock · 12/09/2016 15:20

Lovely thread.
But some of these are just lists of stuff you can buy if you are loaded Confused

stealthsquiggle · 12/09/2016 15:28

Agreed. But a few are relatively expensive versions of things that everyone buys... For example, Dualit toasters and Dyson fans.

I am still coveting a Dyson fan, but would definitely defend the Dualit toaster on cost-per-use grounds.

sparechange · 12/09/2016 15:29

Eve Lom cleanser and Elemis Pro-Collagen marine cream. That's all I have to use on my skin. No facials, no serums. Even my ForeverLiving bot friend who hassles EVERYONE about buying her crap to improve their skin doesn't try it with me, so I can only assume that means it must be ok!

Personal training. It hasn't just changed my exercise habits and waistline. My core strength has helped with chronic back pain, my upper body strength has improved by posture massively which makes my clothes look better. I sleep better, I work better, I feel happier.

WordGetsAround · 12/09/2016 15:31

This is such great thread - and very timely as I'm just about to spend the best part of £1k on a bugaboo and was getting a bit nervy!

We've recently bought an iMac (£1.5k) and it is amazing. It is beautiful as well as incredibly functional and helps life run smoothly.

neekeem · 12/09/2016 15:49

I had laser eye surgery about 10 years ago - brilliant. I still get a thrill when I can go sunglasses shopping! Plus while it's not cheap, spending £200 on glasses and £100 on prescription sunglasses every year or two isn't cheap, either.

My Bose headphones - to not hear the noise when I'm on the tube or a plane makes the whole travelling experience bearable.

awesomeness · 12/09/2016 15:53

I had a wobble before spending 1k on a Pram, but it was so so worth it, With my first two sprogs I'd gone through 8 Prams over the two and would of saved myself money if I just bought the bug in the first place 😂
