To ask what expensive thing you have which you think was well worth the cost?

I got my bugaboo out of the garage today. It's nearly ten years old and I'm giving it to my sister for her baby. I can't believe what good nick it's in. Everything fabric wise can be washed, I've ordered one new wheel and tilt buttons because they were a bit dodgy but everything else is perfect. I've also ordered a new mattress obviously. I think it's fab that you can go on the bugaboo site and order parts for something nearly a decade old.

What do you have that was expensive but so so worth it.

Big trampoline for kids. Best value for money toy by miles and it's good for them Grin

Gyderlily · 11/09/2016 22:34

Ok so I was going to say our micro scooters instead of the cheap crap £20 3 wheelers about and my cordless dyson but feeling a little poor and inferior now Blush

Shockers · 11/09/2016 22:35

Dubarry boots aren't particularly heavy. I too have dodgy hips and wear mine daily.

Shockers · 11/09/2016 22:36

Sorry, that was for Philomena.

NorksAreMessy · 11/09/2016 22:38

Boring...but the steam generator iron is fantastic.

Less boring ...one of my New Years resolutions was to change my entire wardrobe. I got rid of all the frumpy stuff I had had for years and bought a whole new load of clothes and shoes. The confidence it has given me, the compliments (never ever happened before) and the boost to my mental health have been way out of proportion to a few clothes. Expensive, but SO worth it

Jane2406 · 11/09/2016 22:41

Mulberry handbag, 5 years on & it looks better with age. Expensive but the cost per wear has got to be less than cheap handbags now...... Or at least that's what I told my husband when I ordered a new one 😂

jayho · 11/09/2016 22:49

Mulberry handbags are the dogs, I was given my Roxanne for a significant birthday more than a decade ago, still rocks and garners comment. Cost per wear must be miniscule... It was my change bag for two youngest and withstood wear and tear, handles fit nicely over a mclaren Grin

Our two Irish Wolfhounds, soo much love from two beautiful animals, plus our rescue puppy.
Our home and garden
Braun Epiltor and Lumea after years of too much hair on face and body this has been a total winner.
A diamond and tanzinate ring that dh bought the stones for, and I designed and had hand made, just picked it up this friday, fits beautifully, bought for a special birthday earlier this year. ( no idea what the hell I am going to get ds for his special birthday)
A lot of paintings and jewellery over the years

riceuten · 11/09/2016 23:04

The house I bought and (half) a car. First laptop (that nearly cost a grand!)

e1y1 · 11/09/2016 23:12

My bunnies, cost a fortune in vet bills and toys etc. Worth every single penny (and more).

bibbitybobbityyhat · 11/09/2016 23:17

apart from our house, cars and furniture/white goods for the house - I think I've just spent the most money I've ever spent on a single item TODAY!

elastamum · 11/09/2016 23:18

9 years ago I bought a Labradoodle - then a year later another one. They are full of joy and we all adore them. Priceless Smile

motormummy · 11/09/2016 23:19

I recently bought a new motorbike. It replaced a 6 year old 'budget' bike. I use it for work (I train people to ride motorbikes) and for fun and it is just a much better and more comfortable bike than the old one.
Unfortunately comfort comes with a high price tag in the world of motorcycles and I am in the doghouse for making my purchase without running the plan past DP first. In my defence I did put him on the insurance and say 'Look what I bought US' when I brought it home.....

torthecatlady · 11/09/2016 23:55

Oh! I had forgotten about ugg slippers!! You can never go back to normal slippers after them! I'm on my second pair, they lasted me a year each.

Designjunkie · 11/09/2016 23:58

Bottega Veneta purse, 10 years or so of everyday use and still looks new

Rug company rugs. Heirlooms in my opinion. 13 years and looking as good as new even after being subjected to kiddy puke. Other brands just don't stand up to every day use.

Valentino coat - 14 years and still up to date style wise and beautifully constructed.

Le Creuset pans

Nutribullet. Just because I love it. ( cheaper than shop bought smoothies in the long run).

Dualit toaster. Over a decade of perfect toast Smile

Sad to admit that some things are worth the extravagant price

DuchessOfPodd · 12/09/2016 00:00

-Corian kitchen worktop. Lady in the kitchen showroom tried to tell me it was out of my price range (it was) but it was too late I was set on it. Since then it's taken a hammering but it's so low maintenance and still looks brilliant.
-My violin. Spent a few months paying the maker in installments in the high-disposable-income days BDC. Since then it's brought me so many highs, friendships, compliments, breakthroughs, travel and laughs, aside from its beautiful sound. And it's now worth twice what I paid for it.

Designjunkie · 12/09/2016 00:05

Actually, I've had more expensive personal items, but I don't think they have been worth it as they haven't lasted or don't still look new.Confused

Jane2406 · 12/09/2016 01:04

Jayho mines a Bayswater & has also been a changing bag for two littlies now! Just the right size 😃

Beachcomber123 · 12/09/2016 03:34

My health! Which is now good! Without it I was nothing.

sophe · 12/09/2016 04:22

My aga. Priceless where I live where it is cold most of the year and incredible for cooking. always ready, you can cook or heat up or keep warm anything. worth the price, worth the running cost. I could not bear to be without it.

LastAnni · 12/09/2016 04:44

Thermomix

Eastpoint · 12/09/2016 05:40

A Vivienne Westwood dress I bought in 2004 and have worn at least once a year since. Some years it's had 3 or 4 outings & I've lent it twice to a friend's daughter. It was about £900 in a sale & well worth it.

Gelateria ice cream maker, it is a counter top machine which freezes the ice cream as it churns. Bought it in 2002 and have only eaten home made ice cream at home ever since. About £250 then. We bought a KitchenAid mixer at the same time & that is used 5 times a week & although we replaced one part it's going strong.

clarehhh · 12/09/2016 08:07

Sebo vacuum cleaner had it over 20 years easy to fix can even do simple things yourself, parts easily available had a few services otherwise fab.

School fees!

Working Cocker spaniels

Fertility treatment for first child, had 3 in total next 2 natural

CrieffBobsledTeam · 12/09/2016 08:34

Definitely agree about the Denby - most of ours was wedding presents but we added to the collection and almost all of it is still in good nick nearly 20 years later. Especially the pasta bowls as pps have said, they get used all the time. Our colour was discontinued about 15 years ago so hard to add any more now, unfortunately.

Also love Clinique. I know it often gets a bad press and many people actively dislike it but I've been using it since my teens (with a break when I was just too poor) and it's definitely the best skincare of the very few that don't bring me out in a reaction. I got their sonic brush for Christmas 2014 and I love that too, I can feel the difference and a few friends have commented on my skin looking brighter.

The kitchen items I've splashed out on have been very rewarding too, especially the kMix hand mixer (would like a stand mixer but don't have the space) which has lasted 5ish years so far rather than dying after 1 like all the others I've had. The speeds are better on it too, there's more of a difference between each one.

Blueflowers2011 · 12/09/2016 08:46

My four poster Lombok bed bought 10+ years ago. Still love getting under my own canopy and gorgeous bedding, super king size but still not big enough with 4 of us in there when the boys come in sometimes. I think that's the last thing I would say I excessively spent and was worth it. Hmm...getting more inspiration here though...
