To ask what expensive thing you have which you think was well worth the cost?

I got my bugaboo out of the garage today. It's nearly ten years old and I'm giving it to my sister for her baby. I can't believe what good nick it's in. Everything fabric wise can be washed, I've ordered one new wheel and tilt buttons because they were a bit dodgy but everything else is perfect. I've also ordered a new mattress obviously. I think it's fab that you can go on the bugaboo site and order parts for something nearly a decade old.

What do you have that was expensive but so so worth it.

A winter coat. It was very heavily discounted at £260 in the Selfridges sale over a decade ago. Alpaca and cashmere, light as a feather and as warm as toast. It's a thing of rare beauty, looks as good as new and still going strong. I look forward to being able to wear it every winter. Best money I ever spent and it was all the spare cash I had at the time. Je ne regret rein

My exercise bike.

My hair stylers to straighten my hair (GhD).

I think a lot depends on what we deem 'expensive'.

£160 is a lot of money for me but may be peanuts for many others!

My embroidery machine, love it. It is also an electric sewing machine, so easy to use.

My new right knee. We live overseas so had to copay for it with insurance. It was done 11 days ago and I am in less pain than I was with my arthritic knees. I am only 46 so hopefully I will have many years of pain free walking.

Oh, and one thing I'm about to spend absolute buckets on and sincerely hope will be worth every penny is a course of private dental treatment. Been saving up for the last 18 months for it.

mmgirish · 11/09/2016 14:22

My son's open heart surgery when he was 5 months old. We were living overseas and surprise surprise...lots of expensive health insurance policies don't cover congenital heart diseases. The cost of the surgery cleaned us out but it was the best money we ever spent!

Roomba and other robot hoover people...
How clear does the floor have to be for them to cope? We have open plan flat with changes of flooring from carpet to laminate, shoes stacked in hall, electric cables for gadgets across floor, etc. I'd love one, but worry about coming home to find it had choked to death on a stray sock or bath mat!

Tobebythesea · 11/09/2016 16:49

Kitchenaid. I love it!

Private maternity care. Amazing 😊

Gym membership. It's not the spangliest gym in the world, but there is one on the way home from work and one not far from home in the other direction, so I can go for a swim whenever I have a rare window.

The Lord of the Rings Lórien Leaf brooch. Only piece of jewellery I regularly use. Looks cool, is practical.

Cost about 50 euros if I remember correctly. Doesn't sound like much, but is the most I ever spent for jewellery. (With good reason. I usually never use the stuff)

My platinum engagement ring, wedding ring and eternity ring. Cost many £1000's, but I wear them all day, every day and love them very much.

BananaThePoet · 11/09/2016 17:54

A stairlift and wetroom put in by the council for my disabled husband who has a progressive genetic disorder.

We had the dubious 'luck' of being so poor we qualified for a disabled facilities grant to pay for it. Every day we appreciate the difference it has made to our lives in reduced pain and stress.
