AIBU or is the owner of this cafe absolutely raving mad? Sick note if requesting gluten free food

I stumbled upon this facebook page yesterday.

Owner has had enough of people on "faddy diets" and now wants proof of coeliac condition before hw will serve you gluten free food.

His posts are outrageous and really close, if not over the line!

He also demands 5 euro corkage fee for breastfeeding in his cafe. At forst I thought it was a parody account but no.

I don't know the reasons behind the gf ban, but aren't there people who aren't coeliacs who need gf? For instance asd and UC/Chroans people being treated with gf diets?

I think this is prob all a bit tongue in cheek. The 5 euro corkage fee is so ridiculous it must be a joke.

I've been in that cafe loads. The owner is known for this and has had several "bans" like this

He's joking about it but getting a lot of traction and notice for his business out of it.

He is the Frankie Boyle type, promoting his business with fake controversy and its working for him, apparently the place is always heaving...i have to say, i enjoyed reading Vegangate though, i made me chuckle

He is absolutely a marketing genius. I've followed that page since he started this whole sort of reverse marketing thing and the amount of shares and likes and comments the cafe has got is enormous - and remember, it doesn't cost a penny to post anything on Facebook. He has not got over 65,000 people following that page for a relatively small cafe in Dublin. People have called in from all over the world due to the stuff he has posted.

I thought the corkage for breastfeeding was hilarious, ditto Vegangate. If you don't like it, don't follow. It won't be to everyone's taste or sense of humour, but in terms of business for the cafe, it has been an absolutely huge success. Astonishes me every time someone thinks it's serious.

DOCTOR’S NOTE REQUIRED TO GET GLUTEN-FREE FOOD
This morning a girl asked us if we did gluten-free pancakes and when we asked her if she was a coeliac, she didn’t even know what the word meant and then proceeded to order regular, gluten-rich pancakes anyway. From now on, guests who demand gluten-free food are required to produce a doctor’s note which states that you suffer from coeliac disease. Guests following a gluten-free fad, who don’t even know what gluten is, can cop the fuck on and eat regular food like everybody else.
