AIBU or is the owner of this cafe absolutely raving mad? Sick note if requesting gluten free food

I stumbled upon this facebook page yesterday.

Owner has had enough of people on "faddy diets" and now wants proof of coeliac condition before hw will serve you gluten free food.

His posts are outrageous and really close, if not over the line!

He also demands 5 euro corkage fee for breastfeeding in his cafe. At forst I thought it was a parody account but no.

Read through the page!

OP posts:
msgrinch · 05/09/2016 18:11

I think he is brilliant!

HeddaLettuce · 05/09/2016 20:27

Who cares if you don't find it funny, or are offended by it? You don't have any rights to "not being offended". He can say whatever he wants and you are free to not read his comments.

BrightOranges · 05/09/2016 20:50

Well said HeddaLettuce.

I found his post about plasters very amusing!

NuggetofPurestGreen · 05/09/2016 20:52

The OP asked a question and people responded with their opinions. You said you found it funny, others said they didn't. Isn't this what happens on discussion forums?

redisthenewblack · 05/09/2016 20:56

Aaaaahahahahaha!

I'm going to use this instead of a biscuit in future! Grin

HeddaLettuce · 05/09/2016 20:56

The OP didn't really ask a question. And she misunderstood the intent anyway.

BrightOranges · 05/09/2016 21:05

Well I suppose the OP did ask whether the owner is raving mad. This in itself is incredibly rude.

Don't a lot of threads end up going off on a tangent anyway?

Oh just pick a plaster Grin

NuggetofPurestGreen · 05/09/2016 21:11

Well I read the thread title as asking for people's views on the FB page - so I gave mine. Apologies if I am doing MN wrong Hmm

HeddaLettuce · 05/09/2016 21:25

So give your views. As I gave mine that if you are offended by it, its tough nuggets.
What's your beef? Hmm

Amalfimamma · 05/09/2016 21:27

Whatever you do don't mention the Brazilians for Christ's sake 😂

BrightOranges · 05/09/2016 21:31

Ah now nuts. That's a whole new topic! Hang on, maybe that's what the OP meant by raving mad.
Raving mad - nuts - Brazilians
Oh shit I've gone and said it!!!

NuggetofPurestGreen · 05/09/2016 21:33

I was responding to the 'who cares' part of your post. As if some people's opinions didn't matter and weren't worth posting (as no one cares about them). Which is not my understanding of how discussions work.

And I'm not offended. I just think he's lame and not funny.

HeddaLettuce · 05/09/2016 21:46

You seem confused. You can have all the opinions you want, but it doesn't matter what anyone thinks of the dudes FB page. He can say what he like s.

If you think he;s lame and not funny, don't read it and don't go to the cafe.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 05/09/2016 21:52

He is a supporter of the Repeal the 8th Amendment campaign. That's the law which makes it difficult to damn near impossible for women in Ireland to access abortion. To be clear anyone supporting repeal of the amendment supports abortion rights.

Which kind of puts him in the good guys camp.

dustarr73 · 05/09/2016 21:54

What's your beef? hmm
*She doesnt have beef, she is vegan.Grin

Amalfimamma · 05/09/2016 22:01

BrightOranges you've done it now. We'll have Brazillians signing up enmasse to tell us how shite we are and how much they love their kitchen sangwiches Grin

twoundertwowillbefun · 05/09/2016 22:10

Paul is honestly a great guy, I went to college with him and he's a funny sarcastic fucker to boot. I love that he's hit on this as a way to promote his business as our college (hotel management) would perhaps frown upon his methods we had curfews, endless rules and had to wear a poxy uniform

BrightOranges · 05/09/2016 22:11

Oh no they're coming, they're coming. Hide!!!

InionEile · 05/09/2016 22:34

I'm coeliac and thought this was hilarious. The cafe owner has form for controversy and uses it to promote his business. I am half-tempted myself to go and eat there when I'm in Dublin next month, doctor's note and all Grin

The gluten-free fad must be a pain in the neck for restaurant owners. This bullshit of ordering gf and then eating the normal food if the gf food is not available would piss me off too.

Recently I have been asked a few times if I require gluten-free food for allergy or preference before they prepare the food. I've found that helpful because I can then make it clear that I am coeliac and it also gives me confidence that the cafe are preparing the food correctly, not just labeling something gf for the sake of it.

At the same time I recognize that there are people who avoid gluten for health reasons who might not be coeliac so it is not a simple issue.

nocoolnamesleft · 05/09/2016 23:29

Mmmm, but most people with gluten intolerance can cope with cross contamination, for instance, and most people with coeliac disease can't. I actually worry that the former muddy the water for the latter, and risk them being exposed as people assume everyone has just the intolerance, rather than the "reaction to just a few parts per million" level of coeliac sensitivity.

dustarr73 · 06/09/2016 11:35

Well i have just come back form having my breakfast here.God it was lovely and now im stuffed.

Caipora · 06/09/2016 11:45

Just read the thing about the Brazilians. That's so true. We (me and my kids) say we're going to "feed the kitchens" and our kitchen is officially the "Chicken" because DH always said chicken for kitchen and kitchen for chicken. Brazilians always do it when they try to speak too quickly. It's funny.

Can't believe they got upset about it, they need to pull their calçinhas out of their cu's Grin

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 06/09/2016 11:48

If you know someone who's a gluten twat it's even funnier. I picked up a 'friend' to take them to the chemist. They were too ill to go in and collect their medicines so I did. Then when I filled up with petrol, she kept up like a gazelle, dashed around inside and came out with a packet of regular muffins and big bottle of Pepsi. This I someone who demands nutri juices and gluten free foods for free from their GP, shovelling 3 normal muffins into her gob. When asked how come she could eat that she just shrugged and said she was hungry.

I've known she's a gluten twat since I turned up at her house with banana cake and she ate her fill, claiming it was ok because it was"mostly banana".

Soubriquet · 06/09/2016 11:52

Sounds as bad as my SIL who I have NC with

She has diabetes and what she says is ibs

In reality she eats and drinks that much shit that her glucose levels keep fluctuating and she ends up on the toilet with diarrhoea

So glad I don't see her anymore

Caipora · 06/09/2016 12:01

gluten twat Grin

I always feel for people who are genuine sufferers. They don't get taken seriously because of these idoits!
