AIBU or is the owner of this cafe absolutely raving mad? Sick note if requesting gluten free food

I stumbled upon this facebook page yesterday.

Owner has had enough of people on "faddy diets" and now wants proof of coeliac condition before hw will serve you gluten free food.

His posts are outrageous and really close, if not over the line!

He also demands 5 euro corkage fee for breastfeeding in his cafe. At forst I thought it was a parody account but no.

Read through the page!

Appreciate it's meant to be a "joke", but I don't really get this. It comes across as cruel rather than funny.

dustarr73 · 05/09/2016 13:31

Jesus if people are offended dont read the post where some woman complained about the fishfinger sandwiches. After she had eaten them. Its not for the faint hearted.

Soubriquet · 05/09/2016 13:35

I must say, if it wasn't for you lot, I wouldn't have taken it as a joke

It's hard to get the tone online and he doesn't come across very well

But there's no such thing as bad publicity

IceRoadDucker · 05/09/2016 13:38

Not offended but don't find it funny either. Meh.

Soubriquet · 05/09/2016 13:38

Now I've read most of the page, I can see he is joking Grin

Natsku · 05/09/2016 13:44

"Dear Coeliacs,
Quite a number of you are saying that yesterday's post "must be a joke" and that I couldn't possibly be serious about asking people for doctor's notes. Let me assure you that it was not a joke and I am deadly serious. Just as serious as I was when I said I'd charge a corkage fee for breastfeeding mothers, or when I threatened to give Valium to screaming babies, or even when I promised to shoot vegans dead at point blank range. In case you haven't noticed, all posts on this page are deadly serious and it is imperative that you take them literally.
So, whether you're a genuine coeliac or you simply suffer from the psychological disorder known as gluten intolerance AKA lets-make-it-up-as-we-go-along syndrome, please remember that I'd never joke on this page. Never ever.
Paulie
P.S. You're all welcome to call into our café the next time you're here in New Zealand."

Absolutely PMSL at Norkage fee.

Just brilliant. Grin

Soubriquet · 05/09/2016 13:46

I quite like the vegan debate that is posted a few posts down

Those vegans do get a bit hot headed

Witchend · 05/09/2016 13:47

Sorry, I think it's very funny.

I8toys · 05/09/2016 13:47

I want to go to Dublin purely to go there. They have a great sense of humour and highlight the ridiculousness of their customers sometimes. Its funny - we can smile and not be offended about things occasionally.

Ah i think i will have a little visit tomorrow and order a nice breakfast.Gluten free of courseGrin

Soubriquet · 05/09/2016 13:53

I like what he said about the breastfeeding photo...where the woman actually shows a nipple!!

He said that it's basically a natural thing and if anyone wants the photo deleted they need to grow up

Careforadrink · 05/09/2016 13:53

He's joking!

HeddaLettuce · 05/09/2016 13:54

You didn't actually read that and think that it was all serious, did you? Could it be more obviously a wind up? Lot of confused people posting back at him though....

Is it the faddy diets causing a lack of nutrition in the brain?

coolandcalm · 05/09/2016 13:55

Sorry to change the subject but can someone please tell me how you do a link like the op did, where you put the word "this" to put you on to the link.Confused

foxtrotoscarfoxtrotfoxtrot · 05/09/2016 13:55

I want to go to that cafe! Clever clever marketing.

That cafe does a kick ass burger, btw. On the specials menus he writes things like this: "Homemade Beef Burger with Maple Glazed Ham Hock, Red Onion, Brie and Homemade Relish on a Brioche Bun.
P.S. This burger is suitable for vegans. If they copped the fuck on and ate like normal people"

StillDrSethHazlittMD · 05/09/2016 14:01

Hedda Yes, I fail to grasp how anyone takes his postings seriously. It is SO obvious. I can understand people may not find them amusing, even if I do. But even after others have made it even more obvious it's nonsense, by adding their own funny comments, some people go on and say things like "please boycott this place for their stance against vegans" or whatever. What planet do some people live on? Certainly not planet Intelligence.

HeddaLettuce · 05/09/2016 14:02

It's the lack of B vitamins I think Wink

BTW, if you wear a Repeal the 8th t-shirt/hoody/etc into the cafe, your coffee is free Grin

coolandcalm · 05/09/2016 14:06

Sorry Soubriquet I still don't get it.

Soubriquet · 05/09/2016 14:07

There's a space between the link and the word you want to see. All in brackets

TFletchersWife · 05/09/2016 14:09

I liked his wine description on the menu!

I particularly liked the woman who went and commented about the gluten free post "The stupidest thing I've seen on the internet all week. Bravo, shit cafe. WTF difference does it make to you what people order. If you offer it, they're entitled to buy it. Hope you go out of business, payback for your appalling attitude."

Paulie's response: "See what happens when you deprive yourself of gluten?"

Genius.
