AIBU to be upset that he changed the baby's name?

We had chosen a name. She had a name! Now that she's here, he is refusing to call her the name we had picked, Sophia and is saying she looks like an Audrey or an Arden. He appears to be leaning towards Arden. He's refusing to call her Sophia and I'm at the end of my tether. She's two week old and she doesn't have a name. I wanted Sophia Alice or Sophia Skye. He keeps babbling on about how popular it is and how it doesn't feel like her name and that he knows too many little Sophias and Sophies. It's completely thrown me off track as we had planned to get her letters painted for her name and my parents are asking the name and everytime I say Sophia, he says we haven't really chosen and it's just getting to me! He wants Audrey Delilah or Arden Katherine. AIBU to say that we chose Sophia so she's Sophia now?

I love Gideon. I'm not keen on Audrey and I love Sophia. You should both have a say I suppose but you (I presume) gave birth that should give you the deciding vote,

Sophia is a lovely name and who gives a shit about what any other child is called, unless you're expecting all of them to live with you?! I really don't get the preciousness about popular names.

He doesn't get to unilaterally change your daughter's name. I would say if he doesn't want Sophia, and you don't want Audrey or Arden (and who could blame you) then you need to go back to the drawing board.

But I'm firmly in your corner, he's being ridiculous.

You need to compromise. I like Audrey and would avoid Sophia because it is so popular.

These are just a few names that I like from previous pregnancies and some I have made up now. I have a spreadsheet of baby names that I have thought of throughout this and my other pregnancy so have gone back to that and picked out ones I really like.

He likes Arianna. Hasn't said much else other than it's nice and pretty. Reminds him of Ariana Grande a bit so he prefers Arianna spelling.

I think you need to tell him you are very disappointed that he no longer wants Sophia as you thought it was set and she is Sophia to you but if he really doesn't like it anymore then you both need to agree on something else as you really don't like his new choices.

Ask him to think of three new suggestions tonight / tomorrow and you'll do the same and discuss them tomorrow but they can't be Audrey or Arden.

As a suggestion how about Alice Skye, Alice Delilah or Skye Katherine? My parents couldn't agree on my first name so went with their two preferred middle names

was he at the birth ? Might want to 'play on' the fact that you carried and birthed the child. It would piss me off no end ! My OH tried to do this with our first daughter, after his stupid mother came over and started saying she hated the name. We actually had a full on row at the registry office (the shame)!
Sophia is lovely and it's popular because its a great name

Juliet is recognisable but not too common and and Arianna is nice. Margot was a vetoed choice of mine.
I'm totally not precious about middle names - maybe push for your new choice of first and let him pick middle? 😉

He has made me a little list just now and has dumped it on my lap- charming! Would play on the birth thing but he has always been a massive help through the birth and treats me like a princess after so I don't think he'd go for it. Will type up list.
