It's her job to act in the best interest of our country.

We NEED access to the single market and won't get that without free movement of people.

The peace process in N Ireland will be in jeopardy if we erect a border between them and Ireland. It's too high a price to pay.

The referendum was advisory so PM May and the majority of MPs who were pro-remain need to say 'thanks for the advice but we can't deliver what you wanted without wrecking our country so we're staying'

Yes, there are no right wing reactionaries in France Smile

LoveInTokyo · 30/08/2016 22:47

Dapplegrey, I really don't know if it would have made a difference or not. I think we have been drip-fed a constant message of "Brussels is bad" for years now, and the working class people who have been ignored by both the Tories and Labour just wanted to stick two fingers up at someone. They picked the wrong target though. If anyone does benefit from Brexit, it won't be them.

Jonso · 30/08/2016 22:47

How so, namechanger (genuinely interested)

Bettersleepoutdoors · 30/08/2016 22:53

and quite, why not move to France? No problem surely. It's a beautiful country, fabulous produce, some stunning coastline and the man you love.

LoveInTokyo · 30/08/2016 22:56

Well I probably will, but it won't be the best move for my career.

Jonso · 30/08/2016 22:59

We earns more? That will be the pertinent question once you have children.

winkywinkola · 30/08/2016 23:00

In essence.

To wish Theresa May would just say sod it we're staying in the EU because ...
JacquettaWoodville · 30/08/2016 23:02

Going back to the post about Theresa May not wanting to committ political suicide by preventing Brexit because she's too concerned about her career - I would say that's wrong.

She stood on a manifesto that promised a referendum and no party took the view during the process that they wouldn't abide by the result.

In order to not abide by it, I think she'd need to call either another referendum or a general election. If the Tories lost an election to Corbyn, would labour really not trigger article 50?

LoveInTokyo · 30/08/2016 23:04

I earn more now, but his potential for pay progression in the future is probably stronger.

Jonso · 30/08/2016 23:05

Where did you find that gem winky ? Sounds like one of those awful radio 4 sketches by unfunny comedians.

LoveInTokyo · 30/08/2016 23:08

winkywola, that's pretty much spot on.

winkywinkola · 30/08/2016 23:21

Jonso. Which part of the meme could you dispute? Really. It's farcical.

mathsmum314 · 30/08/2016 23:23

Oh christ NO, most people want to LEAVE the EU!

MylaMimi · 30/08/2016 23:24

winky that's a load of (literally) made-up nonsense. With respect.

British people were asked if they wanted to stay or leave. The majority voted to leave. It's as simple as that. We were asked and we answered.

I don't know why people are so frightened of leaving the EU. Does everyone think the EU is a stable fair environment with the UK's best interests at heart? Some of the EU countries have great financial problems. How long until there's some suggestion of using richer member states to bail out poorer member states? Just a thought.

maninawomansworld01 · 30/08/2016 23:28

YABU.
The Tories were elected on a manifesto that promised an in/out referendum, we had the referendum and voted out.
Now we should leave the EU.

It's called democracy!
Suck it up or fuck off to some backwards totalitarian state and see how you like the alternative.

ginghambox · 30/08/2016 23:32

For gods sake 9 pages of bollocks A50 will be triggered by febuary 2017.
The first and main point of negotiation should be the end of FOM. After that everything is open to negotiation.

winkywinkola · 30/08/2016 23:34

What does leave mean?

What does it mean to you? And you? And the other Leave voter?

And what does Brexit mean to Theresa May?

How do you know you're all saying the same thing? Zero immigration? Controlled immigration? Extra money for the NHS? What?

Don't you get it? Your definition of leaving the EU is different to all the other leave voters. The referendum wasn't sophisticated to address this.

So how does TM meet all these demands in from the different Leave voters? She can't actually because it depends on what the EU is prepared to give.

Anyway let's wait and see.

I don't believe there will be catastrophe. I think there will be a slow puncture of the U.K. economy and world standing.

Jonso · 30/08/2016 23:42

Don't you get it? We voted to leave the EU. To no longer be part of the EU organisation. To be ruled by the people who are directly answerable to us, the electorate. TM has to implement that and get the best deal she can.

I wasn't a leave voter but this patronising bullshit is boring to say the least.
Do you think staying in the EU would have been a wonderful thing? Ask all the member states whose proletariat are desperate to leave.

t4nut · 30/08/2016 23:45

I doubt that gingham.

Currently they're working on scenarios and high level concepts of what leaving might look at. The cabinet can't agree. Legal challenges are running. This is going to take years, and then be quietly discarded when they figure we are so closely enmeshed with the EU at all levels it can't be done without crippling the country.

winkywinkola · 30/08/2016 23:46

The best deal we could have got was in the EU.

you weren't a leave voter Jonso? Seriously?

And it patronising to query and ask questions? All part of a healthy democratic debate. The debate continues. It's allowed, you know. It's a democracy.

Please give specific examples of patronising posts.

t4nut · 30/08/2016 23:47

Jonso

You've fallen for one of the biggest lies of the leave campaign. We democratically elected MEPs. MEPs appoint acting officials.

In the UK we elect MPs. We have a non elected second house. We have non elected quangos. We have appointed officials.

If anything the UK is less democratic.

Jonso · 30/08/2016 23:49

Details of the 'best deal' please winky

There were no questions attached to your meme. It's one long patronising diatribe, no debate, no questions just meh.

Jonso · 30/08/2016 23:55

I didn't fall for a lie, I was not a leaver. What I am is old Labour, left wing and arguing from a socialist point of view. I am astounded that so many people on here don't look any further than the conformist, new ;labour led arguments. There are so many parallels with the Blairites trying to oust the democratically elected Corbyn that I can't help thinking you are the ones who have fallen for a lie...

winkywinkola · 31/08/2016 00:03

Jonso. The meme is an example of the conversation between Leavers and those expected to carry out their fantasy wish.

Do you think leaving the EU will bring prosperity to the working people of Britain?

I believe that leaving the EU threatens workers rights. The Tories will not protect them.

I really hope that I'm wrong.

Jonso · 31/08/2016 00:08

Let's hope you are Winky, or that we have a decent left wing government in the near future (it's been a while). And it is confusing and scary and the unknown, which is what swayed me towards a remain vote, but I am trying my best to look on the bright side, there is much wrong with the EU, and I do think if it had been more transparent the reulst would have been different...
