To wear bright pink to a boys christening

Hi all, this is my first post and it's a tad pathetic I'm afraid.

DP and I have been invited to a christening today, I've been looking forward to it since we got the invitation in May. We don't get invited to many things as we don't have many friends.

The hosts are one of DP's colleagues and his wife whom I have met very briefly at another christening a couple of years ago.
I got our outfits out last weekend and hung them on the door frame. DM visited, saw the outfits and commented that whilst they were lovely they were 'very pink'.

I am wearing a cerise dress with matching shoes & bag, DP is wearing a 3 piece grey suit with a striped grey & cerise tie. So DM is right, I am very pink, right down to finger and toenail polish. The christening is for a boy and I'm just wondering if there is a colour etiquette for these things. I've googled briefly but can't find anything.

Appreciate your help/advice

I think it's fine.

Pradaqueen · 28/08/2016 07:46

You'll be fine. There is no etiquette. Ignore your mum and have a really lovely day.

milkysmum · 28/08/2016 07:46

No I am not aware of a colour etiquette for christenings. Your outfits sound lovely. Enjoy your day Smile

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 28/08/2016 07:46

It's absolutely fine Confused

NotSayingImBatman · 28/08/2016 07:46

DS1 wore a baby pink shirt to his own christening so I think you'll be fine Grin

BuffyFan · 28/08/2016 07:46

Sounds gorgeous!

Alconleigh · 28/08/2016 07:47

There is no colour scheme for christenings. There isn't for babies either, as it goes. Outfit sounds fab. As a redhead who has never been able to wear bright pink, I am jealous!

twirlypoo · 28/08/2016 07:47

Sounds really lovely, I hope you both have a great day at the christening :)

VioletBam · 28/08/2016 07:48

I don't think there's a colour etiquette for Christenings...except don't wear black head to toe.

But....cerise dress, shoes, bag and nails?

Really?

It's not usual to wear the same colour head to toe for ANYTHING bless you. You should have toning shoes and bag...and nails. Not matching.

DollyBarton · 28/08/2016 07:50

You don't have to match the sex of the child, lol. Outfit sounds great! I wouldn't be keen on matching DP's tie to your outfit though, I think that looks a bit naff.

Slinkydog77 · 28/08/2016 07:51

Thanks guys Smile
Even my bloody bra is pink!

Can't wait to have a few sherbets and let my hair down now Wink

Well it is very pink. There's no dress code for christenings though. That was a bit of a leap!

Ratley · 28/08/2016 07:54

There is no rule about this. I think you'll look fab, I think matching head to toe looks fab.

blinkowl · 28/08/2016 07:56

Please ignore the VioletBam.

How boring, and patronising.

It sounds great IMO. Hope you have a lovely day.

blinkowl · 28/08/2016 07:56

Oops no idea where that extra "the" came from!

VioletBam · 28/08/2016 07:59

Blink if I'm boring and patronising then what on earth are you!? Declaring that other posters are to be ignored! Who do you think you are with your

"please ignore Violet" crap??

I am offering the OP some advice...sound advice. Wearing head to toe one colour is not usually a good look. In fact...ever.

whateveryousay · 28/08/2016 08:03

violet op wasn't asking for opinions on that though. So given that your 'advice' was never going to make op feel good about her outfit, why do it? I just do not understand people who are downright nasty just for the sake of it.

MrsJoeyMaynard · 28/08/2016 08:09

It's fine. You don't have to co-ordinate the colours you wear with the child's sex!

The only thing I would avoid would be head to toe funeral black.

LolaStarr · 28/08/2016 08:12

violet telling the OP her outfit isn't going to look right (in your opinion) on the actual day of the christening isn't helpful.

OP it sounds lovely, enjoy your day Smile

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 28/08/2016 08:13

Your dress sounds lovely. Enjoy the day

ErrolTheDragon · 28/08/2016 08:13

What does the sex of a child have to do with the colour of anything? Confused

VioletBam · 28/08/2016 08:14

How is it not helpful?? It's not hard to change your shoes and bag FFS!

It's far meaner to all say "Oh it's fine!" when it really isn't! Matching dress, shoes, bag and nails? Really?

All one colour??

Ok.

NataliaOsipova · 28/08/2016 08:14

Oooh - I love wearing just one colour. I think it looks smart. And pink is fine for a christening. No rules, I don't think - you just want to look like you've made an effort for the occasion. Have a lovely time.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 28/08/2016 08:15

All sounds fine to me! Enjoy the sherbets.

VioletBam · 28/08/2016 08:16

Whateveryousay OP clearly asked "Would appreciate help/advice"

So you saying OP wasn't asking opinions is crap.
