Just that ! According to a certain friend a set of parents who do not drink are far superior than a pair who share a bottle of wine over dinner twice a week.

i probably have a drink 3-4 times a week, but i like the little bottles of Koppaberg fruit cider.

I'm not really a wine drinker, and if i do open a bottle, it will take me 2-3 nights to drink it as i dilute it with lemonade.

I like pimms.. but again, i might have 1 or 2 shots over a night, a bottle lasts me months.

Its usually thurs/fri/sat/sun i have a drink, but i don't do it every week.

I'm teetotal. I didn't make a deliberate choice, just don't like the taste of alcohol much or how it makes me feel. Last drink was a Baileys at Christmas about 5 years ago I think.

IJustAteTheKidsFoodAgain · 26/08/2016 22:32

I binge drink. But not very often. It's deeply unhealthy but I have a poor relationship with alcohol and if I didn't have children I'd probably have liver failure from binge drinking too often, I'm certainly a better mum when I'm sober?

PovertyPain · 26/08/2016 22:33

I drink too often. I know I do. It's only one to three glasses, but it's almost every night. My life is a treadmill of caring for my youngest and working from home. Every morning it's going to be different...until night draws in.

applesvpears · 26/08/2016 22:36

I drink a few glasses Friday, sat and Sunday night. I cannot handle my drink that well after being sober for 9 months whilst pregnant. I am still building up a tolerance! I really enjoy drinking though Blush

Wine with my husband on a Friday or Saturday night when the baby is down for the night is one of life's little pleasures. Wine

YABU two have two threads on the same subject in AIBU

paxillin · 26/08/2016 22:41

I know 3 teetotal mums (2 muslim, one recovering alcoholic). I also know 200 or so not teetotal ones.

PinguForPresident · 26/08/2016 22:43

These threads generally get responses from people who'll have a glass of champagne at a wedding and feel a bit tiddly

Most parents drink: we mainly drink when our kids have gone to bed, and not enough to make us feel rough the next day. Sometimes we overdo it and cope with raging hangovers while kids bounce on our heads, often we don't drink for a while and then fall off the wagon. But really, y'see parents are the same as anyone else and drinking is a fun, social and really rather delicious thing, so we tend to do it.

I have a glass of wine if out for a meal but that's about it. I rarely go out drinking. I'm a single parent and I don't feel comfortable having drunk and being solely responsible for a child.

I drink!!! I am a happy mum!! Grin

Runwayqueen · 26/08/2016 22:52

I don't drink at all, but not because I'm a mum. I have a condition that is worsened by drink, I also work shifts, so nights out are few and far between when you either start work or finish work at 4am

goodbyestranger · 26/08/2016 22:52

I don't have a problem with drinking either and am a prolific mum :)

EttaJ · 26/08/2016 22:53

Ditsy4 · 26/08/2016 22:56

I've had two glasses with my meal tonight. I'm on holiday.
I can go weeks without any and I never binge drink.

Fortitudine · 26/08/2016 22:57

I don't drink much at all. I think the number of times I've been even remotely tipsy is about twice in four years. It doesn't particularly agree with me and affects my mood negatively. Also I can't deal with hangovers and like to be able to drive myself home. I've no objection to alcohol at all, just not really for me.

AlwaysTimeForWine · 26/08/2016 23:00

I drink quite a lot. As my name suggests.
I like wine so I drink it. I am also a parent and drink more on a regular basis than I did before I had kids. Pre-kids I would go out partying and drink a lot and have huge hangover maybe once every few weeks but not tend to drink as much at home.
Now I go out less but drink anywhere from half a bottle of wine to a whole bottle on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Don't drink much in the week as I don't want to become more lardy than I am already. From Sep-March I don't drink on a Friday night as I play a team sport in a Saturday that doesn't mix with a hangover.

I don't know a SINGLE tee-total mum in my close friend circle unless they are pregnant, apart from one who is a recovering alcoholic. I find people who don't drink, a bit 'worthy' and smug about it to be honest. I don't generally go around telling people I drink, but find that they are quite happy to spout off about not drinking. It's dull and I always feel a bit sorry for them as nothing beats a cracking glass of wine after a long day!

Horsegirl1 · 26/08/2016 23:00

I only asked as I held a dinner tonight and one couple insinuated that most mums do not drink and to do so would be wrong. I was a bit 😯Confused but said nothing.

OP posts:
AlwaysTimeForWine · 26/08/2016 23:01

PS. I think I drink more BECAUSE I'm a mum! 😂😂

AlwaysTimeForWine · 26/08/2016 23:03

They are a boring couple who have 'issues'. Wine makes me a happier parent. Apart from once when I had to change a shitty nappy with a hangover...... boak. Now try to avoid hangovers and children.

Trills · 26/08/2016 23:06

Do you know what AIBU stands for?

It stands for Am I Being Unreasonable

So your thread title says "Am I being unreasonable to think all mums are teetotal"

Which is clearly not what you think...

Are you missing a "not"?

AnotherUsernameBitesTheDust · 26/08/2016 23:10

I only drink if I go out and I don't go out that often so don't drink often.
