To think all mums are tee total ?

Just that ! According to a certain friend a set of parents who do not drink are far superior than a pair who share a bottle of wine over dinner twice a week.

I drink most nights tbh, don't get drunk though but have a high tolerance and work in the industry. I stopped when pg x 3 and had a glass the first night the baby was home (just one no getting drunk in charge of a baby lol). Think it's a small % of mums that are teetotal if my circle is anything to go by.

I bet the DM will be onto this one.

BillSykesDog · 26/08/2016 23:23

I think OP missed out a 'not' and posted two threads on account of being shitfaced.

Which is probably why she got the snotty comment in the first place. Grin

YellowCrocus · 26/08/2016 23:26

I'm moderately drunk right now...

goddessoftheharvest · 26/08/2016 23:31

I have a few glasses of wine some weekends, most of the time I can't be bothered unless I really fancy it

Three bottles a week is loads

Rainbowunicorn73 · 26/08/2016 23:33

I pretty much gave up drinking when I experienced the joys of entertaining a toddler with a raging hangover.

Horsegirl1 · 26/08/2016 23:33

Billskyesdog I wish ...... 4 months to go for me

I think 3 bottles of wine a week is a LOT.

itfcbabe · 26/08/2016 23:51

I drink at Christmas and my birthday, I'm 40 in 2 weeks so I will be very drunk then!!

yummycake123 · 26/08/2016 23:58

I rarely drink. DH doesn't drink either so we never have alcohol at home.
I only have a drink if I go out with work (4-5 times a year maybe) and at special occasions (family birthdays and Christmas).
my reasons for not drinking are: I hate red wine and beer, and only like certain drinks (mainly G&T), and also financially we couldn't afford to drink every week.... I went out this week, a round for 3 people cost me £17.

MindSweeper · 27/08/2016 00:07

I drink a couple of bottles at the weekend. My DP doesn't drink much at all, every few months at the most.

GinSolvesEverything · 27/08/2016 00:11

I only know a couple of people who don't drink - pretty much ALL the parents I know do. Our school fundraisers are massively boozy affairs, with mutiny a couple of years ago when the bar ran dry.

At work we generally crack into the drinks 2-3 times a week, anytime after 4pm is fair game (often earlier on Fridays). About a third of my office are parents, and a fellow mum whose desk is next to mine jokes that her and I are the go-to people for a bottle opener as we have them on our key rings.

Having said that, no one ever questions anyone who turns a drink down.

WatchMeSoar · 27/08/2016 00:26

What pingu said.

ShelaghTurner · 27/08/2016 00:34

Fuck off with the worthy and smug shit. What a load of bollocks. I don't give a toss who drinks or doesn't, it's possibly the least interesting fact about someone.

0pti0na1 · 27/08/2016 01:18

I don't often drink. If I'm with people I don't know well, there will often be a comment such as "Ooh, aren't you drinking?" "Are you driving then?" "Oh you're being very good this evening". I just ignore it, just as I don't comment on what other people have chosen.

Sparrowlegs248 · 27/08/2016 07:42

I don't drink atm. I am pregnant and have a 1 yr old, he was ebf so although I know you can drink.while bf, I rarely did and don't at all now preggers.

Pre ds I drank a lot. But wasn't a mum obvs so probably doesn't count for the purposes of this thread.

LagunaBubbles · 27/08/2016 07:57

I don't get your title OP.

Letmesleepalready · 27/08/2016 08:16

I've drunk more since having kids than pre kids! But only once to hangover state, it wasn't a fun day the next day!

MidnightMargaritas · 27/08/2016 08:28

I used to have the odd bottle of beer or cider but cut it all out as I'm on antidepressants.
I know plenty of mothers who regularly drink. I also know a few who are out every weekend trying to find Mr. Right and leave their kids with nanna and grandad. Each to their own. Drinking dooesnt make you anymore or less of a parent unless it affects your parenting skills

Hulababy · 27/08/2016 08:53

A mum of a teen here.
I like a drink. We don't go mad but drink a fair bit at times on nights out, or with friends at social weekends or holidays. Never drunk, sometimes merry I guess.

I also work in a school as well as having my own teen.
There are days when a drink is much appreciated!

LunaLoveg00d · 27/08/2016 08:58

I drink! All my mum friends drink! But as my kids are getting older and Scottish drink drive laws have got so restrictive that even one tiny glass of wine puts you over the limit, it's really cut down on being able to have a glass of wine midweek if there is even the slightest chance I'll have to collect a child from someone's house / drama / Scouts / dancing.

Groovee · 27/08/2016 09:01

I'm tea total. Dh drinks usually at weekends.

JacquesHammer · 27/08/2016 09:28

I am a single parent.

I am not strictly tee-total as I don't abstain completely but I cannot remember the last time I had an alcoholic drink. Maybe out for dinner in April.

I never ever drink when I am with my daughter in the house.

dowhatnow · 27/08/2016 09:36

Middle class women are the group that is supposed to be drinking too much and in danger of alcoholism. I suspect that a fair few of of those middle class women are mums too.

SnortGruntFart · 27/08/2016 09:46

I just stick to non-alcoholic beer and cider. Main reason is in case I have to make a dash to hospital with the DC. I'd rather be tee-total, than my judgements even slightly impaired by alcohol.

I've been told I'm an old bore, but I can easily live with that label. I do tend to make sure my drinker friends get home safe though. The other friends that are left are either rare or non drinkers.
