AIBU?

To accept it? Or do I ask for an awkward refund?

A lady I went to school with is a highly recommended beautician. I had my nails done with her before and loved them so I thought I would try these HD brows. I have naturally quite thick eyebrows and normally love them when I get back from a wax, but today I am a tad upset (I appreciate it is ridiculous to be upset about something as trivial as eyebrows).

When I got a look at them, they looked fine. There was a little too much make up on them for my personal taste but I thought I'd just remove it at home to tone it down. Removed all the brow make up and I have a bald patch! Like a slit in one eyebrow that looks like it has been shaved in like young lads do. I'm gutted. She obviously saw it and covered it with the make up. The brows were pricey, do I ask for a refund? Which will be horrendously awkward as I know her, or just suck it up and not go there again?

But she didn't tell you to leave the make up on for 24 hours did she?

In any event, on the (one) occasion I've had my eyebrows done, they made them look the same. Surely that's what they're supposed to do, not put a gansta gap in one of them?

And yes, your lashes are lovely

24hrs?! I've never needed to leave a tint on for 24 hours, if that's a specific instruction she should have told you that, how else would you know.

Hope it grows back! I'd find someone else for brows though, my friend had extremely gappy brows from over plucking but over time and with consistent appointments she's been able to get some hair growth back and they're a lovely shape now.

I know she told me not to touch my lashes for 24 hours and not to get them wet, didn't think the same about the eyebrows. I've had them tinted before and they remove it after like five minutes, never had to leave it on, and the make up is hardly magic make up that grows back hair so I don't see how that made a difference but never mind.

Bit of a shit reply really. Did her apology include her admitting it was a mistake? Or did she just blame you for not waiting 24 hrs (even though she didn't actually tell you to do that)

She said she hadn't noticed, sometimes the wax pulls off hairs it shouldn't which is rare, but mentioned that I should have left the make up on.

"I fucked up but its your fault"

I hate those sorts of replies. I had a hairdresser do that to me once, I have two tone hair and not in a good way! But apparantly it was my fault that she didnt do what I asked her to do and that she used a totally different colour and anyway, surely I could see that it was busy that day......

Got a refund, dyed my hair myself and never went back!

My arse did you need to leave the tint on for 24 hours. That's an enormous patch. She messed up with the wax.
Don't go back to her.

I would say "I would prefer a refund thank you". If she won't then I wouldn't go back.

I don't think I've got it in me to ask for a refund now... I'm pathetic. Wasn't there a poster not long ago who offered to sort out wimpy mumsnetters problems for them? Where's she?

I'd be desperate to reply - 'to be honest, I don't think I'd feel confident of you shaping my brows if you didn't notice a bald spot that size! If I needed to leave the make up on for 24 hours I would have appreciated you letting me know. I know you did say that about the eyelashes, but not the brows. I have never heard about leaving it on for 24 hours, could you let me know what brand you used?'.

But then I would ALWAYS for for the awkward refund!

You seriously need to pursue this. Please! She can't go round thinking she can get away with doing this!

What if it doesn't grow back? Mine hasn't and it's been years.

Maybe she hoped that if the tint had set, (and dyed the skin - would that happen?) you might not have noticed at all?

Is she registered with HD or just claiming to do HD brows? I'm guessing she has if she's doing the LVL lash- but seriously poor show if she's trained by them and knows that you can contact HD if you're unhappy.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter when you took the makeup off AS SHE PUT A GAP IN YOUR BROW!!! No amount of make up compensates for that.

Could you reply "it isn't the tint that bothers me, it's the gap that is there that wasn't there before. Did something go wrong when you were threading/waxing? I've never had a gap there and now I'm going to have to fill it in myself each day until it (hopefully) grows back."

I would reply saying
'But there is a bald patch in my eyebrow. Are you saying the tint would have dyed my skin and hidden it? I am really unhappy with it. Is there nothing else you can do or offer me as recompense.'
She can only say'No' and if she does are you bothered. about the knowing her? She should have apolgised.

You have to complain properly!! WhT if it doesn't grow back?!! That last suggestion was good text something like that and ask for a refund! It's a big gap how on earth did she do it?

Sammysquiz · 24/08/2016 19:25

I'd send lulu's reply - she is trying to wriggle out of it. It's a huge gap, she should be grovelling like mad, and offering you a full refund at least.

I also got to a salon run by a school friend, I get nails HD brows and LVL done regularly and can tell you absolutely no WAY is that correct.

Your tint doesn't need to be on 24 hours! I was going on hols and had my brows done day before and she said I will use a slightly darker tint than usual as the sun will lighten it quickly. She also always asks me if I want her to then put make up on them at the end. I usually do but it doesn't even need to be applied if u don't want/need them filled in!

Ehen I first saw the pic I was going to ask if she even tinted them as they don't look tinted at all. The dye does tend to stick to the skin for a day or two slightly (which I like actually)
Did she use string to 'Mark out' her lines before she started?? First time I went and if I leave it too long between appointments, my beautician uses string to create a straight line indent on my skin as a guide. This is part of the HD bit I believe.

Don NOT be fobbed off. I would expect a refund and if my school friend did this she would be mortified and not charge me and I'd imagine give me a voucher for a free treatment.

Pursue this.

OP please send one of the suggested replies to her text, you completely deserve a refund, she's hacked the middle of your eyebrow off ffs!!
Stop being "pathetic" as you call it, you don't even have to see or speak to her, it's by text, don't let her blame you and get your money back!
Woman up and send it Grin

Yes she did the string mapping thing. Her reply was: Oh yes I can see in the photo!! Sorry I never noticed it earlier, it could of been from the wax, sometimes it can pull away extra hairs where the paper hasn't be applied too, it can happen but is rare. Just let them grow there's not really anything can be done about them today, you should leave the make up on after a hd appt to allow the tint to set on your skin, you should leave your brows and lashes for 24 hours. But they should be ok tbf so don't worry too much about that, when they grow back I will do a complimentary brow shape to apologise xx

Not really sure how to reply to that without being a dick. I don't want it to be awkward if I ever bump into her.

I would leave it now, there's nothing to be done and I doubt you will feel better if you send her another text!

I do think it's bad form for her not to immediately confessed and further bad form for trying to divert responsibility onto you via her text but hey ho I would chalk it up to experience and find someone else
