To accept it? Or do I ask for an awkward refund?

A lady I went to school with is a highly recommended beautician. I had my nails done with her before and loved them so I thought I would try these HD brows. I have naturally quite thick eyebrows and normally love them when I get back from a wax, but today I am a tad upset (I appreciate it is ridiculous to be upset about something as trivial as eyebrows).

When I got a look at them, they looked fine. There was a little too much make up on them for my personal taste but I thought I'd just remove it at home to tone it down. Removed all the brow make up and I have a bald patch! Like a slit in one eyebrow that looks like it has been shaved in like young lads do. I'm gutted. She obviously saw it and covered it with the make up. The brows were pricey, do I ask for a refund? Which will be horrendously awkward as I know her, or just suck it up and not go there again?

Sorry to derail! What does the eyelash thing entail? They look fab!

FeckinCrutches · 24/08/2016 16:13

That's really bad! Very unprofessional not to own up

Mama1980 · 24/08/2016 16:14

Ooo that really isn't great easily covered but still annoying. , have you decided what you want her to do? Hopefully she will reply terribly apologetic and offer you a free treatment or something.

monkeywithacowface · 24/08/2016 16:16

I think your message if fine. I know it's awkward but surely she realised her mistake and knew you would notice it too. I think that's the thing that would annoy me more, her covering up her cock up and still charging you full price.

porridge90 · 24/08/2016 16:16

The eyelashes are LVL. hard to describe but there's a really good video on them by Losa Eldrodge o think, worth a look if you're thinking about it. They last about 6 weeks apparently, it's the first time I've had them done.

OP, lots of practical advice here that I can't add too but if it makes you feel any better I once had a very strong and manic urge to shave off my eyebrows, which I promptly did and that looked way worse.

In my defense I was 7 at the time but I thought it may cheer you up to hear Grin

I wouldn't worry though, in all seriousness. Bit of make up will fix it till it rows back. Glad to hear you've contacted her too, very unprofessional of her.

porridge90 · 24/08/2016 16:17

*lisa Eldridge sorry for all the typos, new phone and chubby fingers.

What are HD brows?

BettyOBarley · 24/08/2016 16:20

I came on to say that when I had a HD brows treatment on my quite uneven brows I ended up with some gaps in order to make them both look even and had to be pencilled in but after seeing your picture, nope, that is really bad!

PoisonWitch · 24/08/2016 16:36

Ooh yeah that is bad. Hopefully she will be Blush and offer you something good.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 24/08/2016 16:37

There is a video at the bottom of this blog page which should explain how HD brows are done -
sosueme.ie/the-hair-and-beauty-room/reader-request-all-about-my-brows-hd-brows/

I don't think you should be happy with what you've received and I can't wait for the therapist to come back to you with her response to your text.

porridge90 · 24/08/2016 16:37

Hd brows are when they wax, thread and tweeze them into a shape that they have mapped as perfect for your face. They also tint them and put make up on them to finish them off. I normally just have a tint and wax but I was trying the eyelash tong anyway so thought 'why not?'

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 24/08/2016 16:41

I would probably use wax and powder eyebrow stuff to cover it rather than pencil as it may look more natural than pencil or may just be that I was shit with pencil so it never looked natural
Glad you responded. I didn't see that before I posted before saying you should respond

jennielou75 · 24/08/2016 16:45

Not promoting but the wonderbrow stuff is good for this. My mum has blonde eyebrows and has used pencil for years. I bought her wonderbrow not being sure she would use it and she loves it!

Cineraria · 24/08/2016 16:54

I have worked in the beauty industry and also taught students. Accidents can happen, especially for me when working with students, but I'd be really disappointed to think this was covered up. As a bare minimum, I'd have expected you to be offered:

A heartfelt apology and a clear view and explanation of the problem
A full refund, as opposed to a voucher for a future treatment
A colour matched brow pencil or cash to buy one to use until regrown
A lesson in how to draw in natural hairs so you can have a natural looking brow until they're fully grown.

Good practice would be to offer more to ensure you felt the salon saw your upset as something they wish to remedy, for example:

unlimited brow tidies until regrown, as this will make any new regrowth in the bald patch more obvious
A relaxing treatment, e.g. a back or foot massage, as part of the apology if the therapist/salon offer them.

I think it may be hard for a client to trust a beauty therapist who has behaved in a deceitful manner in future, making them anxious about receiving treatments, so I was always particular about encouraging students I taught to be honest about mistakes and try their best to put them right.

porridge90 · 24/08/2016 16:58

That all sounds amazing, doubt il get that though. It's her own business from a beauty room at her house. I wonder if she will even reply?

OP posts:
porridge90 · 24/08/2016 17:05

Ok I have a reply. An apology and an offer of a complimentary shape once they've grown back. Apparently I should have left the make up on for 24 hours to let the tint set on my skin so perhaps it's partly my own fault..

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 24/08/2016 17:06

Well, porridge90 if you hate confrontation just don't go to her again. With any luck your bald eyebrow patch will grow back, then do what you normally do and I'm sure they'll look great.

SecretSpy · 24/08/2016 17:09

Leaving the makeup on would just have hidden it a day longer, you'd still have the bald patch she caused. It'll probably grow back ok but blimey she's got some balls, I wouldn't want her touching them again.

Mummyme1987 · 24/08/2016 17:09

That's it? I would ask for full refund at the minimum. You are entitled to that plus compensation in my book.

meowli · 24/08/2016 17:10

Apparently I should have left the make up on for 24 hours to let the tint set on my skin

To cover up the gap? Shock

Mummyme1987 · 24/08/2016 17:10

It may not grow back. I have a patch that I did in a zip. Yes really. Never grew back.

Mummyme1987 · 24/08/2016 17:11

Just covering her tracks fir 24 hrs

porridge90 · 24/08/2016 17:15

Don't think I've got the balls to take it any further, just won't go back. Need to invest in a decent eyebrow pencil tomorrow!
