Woman in supermarket queue behind me

wowowowow · 19/08/2016 18:47

today shoved up all my shopping (on the conveyor belt) and started to heap hers on.

I didn't know what to say as I would never dream of interfering with someone elses stuff but I don't know if I am being precious - am I?

I find as I get older I get less tolerant of cheeky feckers in supermarkets.

Yesterday I was in a rush and a women and her husband were milling around the bread aisle, one on either side. She went to walk towards her husband, I slowed down, she stopped/stepped back so I went between them and said thank you.

She said a passive aggressive "yes, well say thank you but don't stop" to her husband and I put the brakes on to politely ask what was wrong as I had slowed down and she clearly had stopped then stepped back to let me pass and I did say thank you, she did apologise. I would never have done that 10 years ago.

Plan for tomorrow: have checkout divider swordfight.

emotionsecho · 19/08/2016 20:49

Hassled I now have a great image in my head of customers limbering up for the Aldi packing/scanning race - stretching arms, fine tuning finger speedGrin.

Gabilan · 19/08/2016 20:50

Do people ever just go completely batshit and start sword fighting with those shopping divider things?

I don't know but I can shout "on guard* at Wigglyfoof if you like and start jousting.

chough · 19/08/2016 20:52

I will swing down from the light fittings, and slice through some candles.

lljkk · 19/08/2016 20:53

Pushy cow behaviour. Rise above.

QueenieBob · 19/08/2016 20:53

This really made me laugh! Next time I'm in the checkout queue I'm going to pick up a divider and see how many Mumsnetters I can spot for a fight!

Wigglyfoof · 19/08/2016 20:54

Gabilan we seem to have our plans sorted then.

OliviaStabler · 19/08/2016 20:55

I've had that happen to me and had a rage but didn't say anything. Rude bastards.

BravingSpring · 19/08/2016 20:57

I hate those people who stand right behind you while you're still paying/packing, or even worse, couples where one moves in front of you and starts getting their bags ready before you've finished. Sometimes you don't see them and move your trolley, it happens .....

MsVestibule · 19/08/2016 20:59

Somebody in Aldi started putting her shopping on the trolley before I'd finished putting mine on, too! I politely (sort of) pointed out that I now didn't have room to put the rest of mine on. She pointed to the front of the conveyor belt and said 'well when their stuff (i.e. the person in front of me) had gone through, you can put yours on there'.

I was utterly baffled that somebody didn't understand how a conveyor belt actually worked, but didn't want a supermarket rage incident, so just gave her a pitying look and shook my head patronisingly.

Gabilan · 19/08/2016 21:01

Cool. I'll be the one wearing my horse's over-reach boots as wrist protectors. Those checkout dividers look like they might sting a bit.

Ketchuponpizza · 19/08/2016 21:04

The man behind me yesterday put all of his shopping straight out of his basket and on the conveyor belt, (whilst I still had half a trolley full) and kept moving his stuff backwards when the belt moved forwards to create a place to put my stuff on.

You couldn't make it up!

Welshmaenad · 19/08/2016 21:07

Someone did this to me once when I had 3/4 of a full trolley still to load and was having a really bad day. Polite requests to refrain failed so I used the divider to neatly sweep all her shopping off the end of the conveyor.

Hopefully that will serve as a deterrent to her in future.

Mamadothehump · 19/08/2016 21:10

What should I say?

Fuck the fuck off should suffice.

HTH

midlifehope · 19/08/2016 21:16

Wrong. I also hate it when you are trying to pay,a nd the person behind you shoves too far forwards so they are standing almost blocking the card machine! Who would do that???

Heidi42 · 19/08/2016 21:17

I second the snails pace lol

redheadmamma · 19/08/2016 21:23

Someone loaded their stuff on behind mine when I hadn't finished unloading my trolley once, I had maybe 15 items or so left. I ignored him, as it clearly looked like he wanted an argument. When the lady before me had finished, I put my trolley at the end and slowly, 1 at a time passed the checkout lady the items to scan through! I sighed whilst telling the lady I had run out of room to put it on the conveyor, the bloke looked like he wanted to punch me! It's never taken me so long to pay for my shopping, I dropped my purse twice lol! I'm normally an aldi ninja, laughed to myself all the way home Grin

dizzyfeck · 19/08/2016 21:26

What is it about supermarkets that make people turn from decent humans into selfish half-crazed loonies?

ladyjadey · 19/08/2016 21:31

I have nothing really to add apart from that I love the supermarket rage threads. Keep it up!

CandODad · 19/08/2016 21:47

Sweet little old lady with a basket literally threw herself to get to the checkout in front on my trolley. There was a full conveyor belt from the person in front so I wasn't that fussed. It was that obvious the woman being served giggled and smiled at me with a "was there really a need for her to do that" look. I said to basket lady "If you just go up two tills the basket till is empty, she could serve you straight away" her initial reply?
"I saw this till first" a little stunned I replied "sure, I just didn't think it made sense for you to stand and wait when you could be served right away"
With that the penny clearly dropped and she just walked off, only for the basket checkout lady explain she was just swapping over and would only be a second, no idea what happened but changeover took ages and I ended up being served before her. She glowered at me as I walked past as though I had some how set the whole thing up.

MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting · 19/08/2016 21:55

I've had the situation pp have described where someone starts loading there shopping on the belt before I'd put mine on, I did say that I still had loads of shopping to go on and could they wait, they had to keep moving there stuff back.

Today though I got to the checkout in Aldi,

Shopper A stuff was being scanned through,
Shopper B got to the checkout just before me, didn't have much stuff but instead of loading the shopping behind shopper A they started at the back of the belt, leaving about 4ft of empty belt, as I mentioned we're in Aldi so very long belts
Shopper C (me) couldn't load on very quickly, then the belt moves loads because of the massive gap left by shopper B.

It did take longer, the checkout operator got up to do another task after shopper B had left while I unloaded the rest of my shopping.

I never have or would move someone's shopping, but what the people in front of me did was rude too.

Notsoyummi · 19/08/2016 22:12

Some of these are gas I was in Aldi last week I'm terrible for letting people ahead of me if they have a few things I was after letting 2 people ahead and was another guy just appeared I noticed he only had a few things so was thinking would I let him ahead or not he looks at me and says are u sure Hmm I hadn't said a word think he was trying to trick me into thinking I let him ahead Smile

Charlesroi · 19/08/2016 22:17

When this sort of thing happens to me, I break with my normal habits and take up the checkout operator's offer to make small talk. At length. Then rummage around for the exact change which - as it turns out - I won't have.

Pettywoman · 19/08/2016 22:35

Redheadmama that is the correct response and exactly what I was going to suggest doing. Bravo.
