Woman in supermarket queue behind me

wowowowow · 19/08/2016 18:47

today shoved up all my shopping (on the conveyor belt) and started to heap hers on.

I didn't know what to say as I would never dream of interfering with someone elses stuff but I don't know if I am being precious - am I?

I like going to my local Tesco where you can scan as you shop.
Means you can pack directly into your bags within the trolley as you go round, then it's only a moment at the self service pay point (unless they've randomly picked you for a check against your items having been scanned)
Hardly anyone uses them, for some reason preferring to queue up and go through conveyor belt trauma.
I'm not keen on the actual shop itself, but it's so relaxing to use in comparison to other supermarkets.

ItsABanana · 24/08/2016 00:24

The big problem with Aldi and Lidl, for me, is that you aren't allowed to take baskets through the checkout - you have to unload and leave the basket at the beginning.
Not seeing the problem with that, either, sorry! Unpack your basket contents onto the conveyor belt and ditch your basket in the basket holder.
Have your carrier bag to hand, and just stick everything in there as they come through the conveyor belt! Smile

FeralBeryl · 24/08/2016 00:38

Now I can see this from the other side!
But firstly - I am completely and absolutely a NON SHOPPING TOUCHER Grin that is out of order, I prefer to self seeth.

But, I hate it when people have got 3 items spread with miles between them on the belt and I've got a massive trolley full to get loaded on.
Our supermarket only employs ninjas to control the tills so it ends up with them glaring at you to get the rest of the stuff from your trolley onto the belt whilst the 'scanned' stuff piles up.
I get really panicky, and run up and down like a total Tit.
I can't tell you how much I love the self scanner jobby.

I've never been to a supermarket that lets you take the baskets out, are you taking them all the way home?

notamummy10 · 24/08/2016 05:43

You can take the basket past the checkout to the shelf in Aldi... I always do, it's never been a problem. My Aldi is little but busy due to how many areas it appeals to so they'll allow it to keep the queue moving (and the checkout operator can meet their 'scan 1000 items in a hour target')

notamummy10 · 24/08/2016 05:44

I just leave the basket on the shelf with the other stacks of baskets... Also Aldi's baskets have security tags on them anyway!

polarpercy · 24/08/2016 08:47

Radio 4 have a funny quiz about Which supermarket self-service tribe do you belong to may amuse!

purplevase4 · 24/08/2016 11:20

Generally people in supermarkets don't have full bags

? What an odd thing to claim. Of course they do. Lots of town centres have supermarkets so people use the other shops in town too. So you do other shopping and then go into the supermarket to get say a bottle of wine and a loaf of bread. Or whatever.

tootyflooty · 24/08/2016 12:29

I'm constantly astounded by shoppers rudeness, I work in a supermarket, and people regularly stand really close to the card reader, while another customer is paying, and on the basket only till, will start unloading on the very small space while the other customer is still paying, some people have no concept of personal space, and don't get me started on the woman who complained because I'd served someone who had more that 10 items, and said that everyone else in the queue was also complaining about it !!!, I even apologised and said it was difficult to tell at a glance if there are more items in a basket, she then proceeded to moan that her husband was on a double yellow!!, use the fg car park then ( I thought, but obviously didn't say), some customers are total twats

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 24/08/2016 16:15

Never happened to me before but I had my shopping moved forward by a shopping belt shover!

I only had two items and the queue was moving at a normal pace so I waited until the person in front of me was mostly done and there was some space on the belt, put my two items down and looked for a divider. The woman behind me, the only other person in the queue and with only a few items of her own, picked up a divider and shoved my shopping forward even though there was already plenty of space for her stuff too. Emboldened by having posted on this thread, I pushed the shopping back and said "Oh-oop, I'll be moving that back then."

The woman behind me glared and my daughter had to stifle her giggles until out of the shop where she erupted with glee. Almost wish I'd turned the divider the other way now too.

Yes to that: I've been going out just waiting for trouble to start.
Got all the reactions and answers ready.
Nothing's happened yet.
Think I might now be radiating a " don't mess with me" kind of vibe.

Just be careful it doesn't turn into a permanent unchangeable resting bitchface situation, unless that's the vibe you're going for all of the time? Grin

BreconBeBuggered · 24/08/2016 23:48

That resting bitchface is my default, which is why it's only on MN that I get wound up by people huffing about the customer in front not having their money ready. In a real supermarket situation, nobody would fucking dare. They don't dick around with my shopping either. I radiate evil Grin

littleprincesssara · 24/08/2016 23:57

I shop in the Clapham Junction Lidl a lot and you definitely don't have to pack your shopping on the shelf at the front, though people often do. But I only ever have a basket/one bag full and am a quick packer.

bigpigsmum · 25/08/2016 08:49

Then of course there are the un-professional shoppers who after placing all goods on the belt put the 'next customer please' block in place then stand at the end of the conveyor so it is impossible for you to put anything on the belt.
And just don't get me started on the folks who 'pop' in to Aldi or Lidl for a couple of things and stand there looking all pitiful hoping you'll just let them jump the queue - Tesco across the road has a fast track! But some days I feel pious and wave them through, it depends on my mood, just luck of the draw on any given day.

Brankolium · 25/08/2016 08:58

This happened to me the other day:

Only a few items on the conveyor belt so far and a trolley full shopping, then while my back was turned the man behind had put the divider on and started loading his tings. We all looked at him and I said "there's nowhere to put my shopping, we're going to have to move you back".

He apologised profusely for not noticing and moved his stuff. I was ready for a fight but it was all very reasonable and un-Mumsnet-worthy! Grin

BIWI · 25/08/2016 12:15

You need to leave your trolley at the end of the conveyor belt!

It's when you move it to alongside the belt that you open up the opportunity for people to do this.

ThisIsPlanetEarth · 25/08/2016 12:29

I had to laugh yesterday after reading this thread. Was in Aldi, put the divider at a 46 degree angle, didn't have the nerve to put it straight! The woman behind me turned the divider horizontal and pushed it up against my shopping! Then when I was trying to pay by debit card, she had pushed her trolley up so I couldn't get to it, I pushed her trolley out the way and said excuse me, she did apologise. Think it must be ingrained in human nature to do these things, I'm going to be on the lookout for all these things when I go shopping in future!

ThisIsPlanetEarth · 25/08/2016 12:29

Meant a 45 degree angle, I didn't measures it!
