Woman in supermarket queue behind me

today shoved up all my shopping (on the conveyor belt) and started to heap hers on.

I didn't know what to say as I would never dream of interfering with someone elses stuff but I don't know if I am being precious - am I?

Had this in lidl. Was still putting shopping on conveyor belt when woman behind me started putting hers on not leaving me any room. I said I hadn't finished and got told to pile my shopping up into a mound so I could fit it all on. Not Impressed I told her how inconsiderate and entitled she was, she then resorted to personal remarks About my appearance, most entertaining for the other shoppers. Never ceases to amaze me how damn selfish some people are. I wouldn't have the front. Was quite upsetting and I left feeling as though I was at fault.

I must live in such a boring town - none of this ever happens to me. Everyone's polite and smiles and apologises if they cause a delay.

By the outrage in her voice as she said 'that's my trolley you just moved!' you'd've thought I'd strangled a kitten.

I would have replied, yes and I am graduating from trolley moving to strangling annoying people so you had better be nice to me.

(Nicked from Alan Rickman in Die Hard - been looking for an excuse to use it for YEARRRSSS)

I would have stopped packing immediately, walked over to the divider without so much as saying a word and shoved it back in the other direction probably hopefully spraying her shopping off the edges.

Then I would meticulously put everything back in the right order and spend forever packing my bags before paying so her stuff can't go through while i pack.

And she better pray she doesn't have the balls to say anything about it or she'll find out what happens to someone's temper when you disrupt their OCD. My shopping is all completely evenly spaced and stacked precisely on top of each other, literal 1cm gaps in-between items so nothing that isn't related (so fridge stuff and toiletries for example) can touch each other. It all gets packed in a super fast tetris style very specific order Grin

I loathe the people that push really close to your body as if it will get them served quicker and will say something every single time. Usually "is there a reason you're touching me?" very loudly to embarrass them into moving.

When you arrive at the che Kong and its empty you need to start unloading it on to the conveyor belt at the end furthest away from the till
That way you make sure you have plenty if room for your shopping and people can't start putting by heir stuff on and taking up the space that you need
If you position your trolley in the middle of the conveyor belt then it works quite well.

It sounds to me like lots of you are not leaving your trolley at the end of the conveyor belt, but you're moving it up alongside it - so you're leaving the space at the end of the belt for the next person!

Schoolgirl error.

BIWI, most useful thing to remember so far.
Looking forward to my next supermarket shop, with all these tips in mind.

If you had yours all spread out, taking up more space than you needed, you were being rude, so I can't blame her for wanting to do it. Especially if she has a lot to unload. Doesn't make it right, I just understand why she did it!

If you had yours tidly packed on the belt, then she was the only rude one. At least ask first, y'know?

I am usually in Sainsbury's at 9am on a Monday morning so don't experience this. However we will be going much later tomorrow; I wait to see different events.

DS1 finds it amusing to put the divider lengthways. Last time he did it when we were shopping with MIL she changed it to conform, much to his consternation!

HeyOverHere Are you THE woman?? I do lay out my purchases on the conveyor belt - I can't stand piling up stuff. It doesn't matter. It will still take the same time for my shopping to go through. ( I also lay it out facing the cashier so that it's easier for them) (perhaps I have OCD tendencies?)

I live in dread of this kind of thing happening. I don't often pack on my own, but if I do, the shopping has to be spaced out properly so that I can distribute the weight into bags I can lift into the trolley and car. Shoving my shopping along will never help to speed up this process. I find that keeping my trolley, not to mention my arse, at the back of the conveyor belt deters intruders remarkably effectively.

Oh, and anyone that humphs about me having to dig out my purse at the end can fuck off as well. Keeping my purse in my hand would make me a good 50% slower. I know I must be one of those people because I've never been annoyed at the person in front not having the exact £83.27 ready in their quivering paw.

The trick with Aldi/Lidl packing is to pack everything up before you pay. If you pay before you pack, they will serve the rest of the questions on top of you and try to make you feel like you are in the way and an inconvenience. [Wink]
I thought the rule about loading the conveyor belt was; you can load once the person in front of you has placed the bar behind their shopping. It's the way everyone does it where we shop. Confused

wowowowow LOL! Nope, I'm not that woman. And I don't mean we should all pile, just be courteous to those who might need the space, too. Sometimes we all have a lot of groceries and we do what we can, but if your milk, bread, and crackers are taking up a meter of space, or your eight small items take up the whole belt (unless it's a very short belt), look to see if the person behind you could use that space to unload or set down their basket. If so, just close the gaps up between your stuff. It costs nothing, you go no slower, and things go faster for everyone behind you.

Otherwise, crack on, and regardless, it's rude to handle other people's goods like she did. Like I said, I can understand why she did it, it doesn't mean I condone it!

Brecon, you don't have to keep your purse in your hand. You're standing there at the desk, no-one is going to nick it if you put it down under your shopping bag at the end. Or, better still, if you're paying by card, get your card out and put that down ready for use.

I take as long as I like at the till, packing and getting my purse out, especially if people look like they huffing and puffing behind me. If ever I find myself getting stressed about how long someone is taking to pack/pay then it's a sure sign I need to take care of my mental health.

MapleandPear · 22/08/2016 10:55

I haven't got enough hands to pack a bag and simultaneously get my purse out of my handbag, so I'll do them one at a time and your day will be delayed by 30 seconds. Big fucking deal.

Report
JudyCoolibar · 22/08/2016 13:33

So why not get your purse out while you're waiting in the queue? Surely it's a better use of your waiting time than standing there staring into space. It's just basic common sense and saves your time as well as that of the people behind you. If you would really rather spend your time s - l - o - w - l - y packing and then even more slowly paying instead of getting out and getting on with your life, you're not in a position to criticise anyone else's mental health.

Report
MapleandPear · 22/08/2016 13:38

Why would I get my purse out before I've packed the bags? Then I'd have to put it down somewhere. Then it would take longer or as long to retrieve than it would from my handbag.

I never do a full weekly shop for 6 people at the supermarket but just do top-up shops.

You need to borrow my DD for the next time you go shopping OP....
in my local Asda, the checkouts are crammed really close together and there's no space for me to stand to the side of my trolley, so I have to go in front of the trolley to put my shopping on the belt, leaving Dd in the child seat. If anyone dares put their shopping on the belt before I've finished mine and pulled the trolley to the end, Dd will swipe items from their shopping and ever so quietly drop in on the floor behind the person working the next checkout Hmm even my toddler makes her disdain for impatient people known Grin

There ain't no snowflake special enough to excuse queue shoving - NONE!

Not sure it's the efficient people being the special snowflakes on this one.

Perhaps we could have two colours of conveyer belt dividers so people joining the queue would know which queue join?
If you see a blue one you know the person in front just wants their shopping packed and out in the most minimal time.
See a red one and you know they have OCD/ their special way/ anger problems/ no clue that they need their purse out at the end to pay.

Easy!

no no no, the trick to Aldi/Lidl packing is to get it in to the bags as quickly as the cashier is scanning. Or if you have too much shopping or know you won't manage this, just dump it all back in to the trolley as fast as it is scanned, ready to pay then move over to the shelves at the back to pack there or pack it into bags as you load it into your car.

To continue packing after the cashier has scanned the last item and has asked for the money is a sin in Lidl/Aldi, a sin worthy of huffing and puffing.
