Love that dress, Portia

AverageGayLad · 20/08/2016 10:58

I'm VERY stressed right now and it's my friends fault but I think I'm being totally unreasonable :(

toadgirl · 20/08/2016 10:58

Jess If the back of my hair would go silver too, I think I'd be tempted to stop dyeing it altogether. It's just that I'm kind of two-tone at the moment. With the toad warts as well, it's just not a good look for me.

toadgirl · 20/08/2016 10:59

AGL Oh no!!! Share!!!

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 20/08/2016 11:01

I know, you actually some really stunning grey/white haired women (on Pinterest, of course) but the rest of my hair refuses to cooperate.

Why is AGL stressed? (and I'm certain I've made my feelings clear on the Sad)

toadgirl · 20/08/2016 11:03

Jess Yes, I've seen some grey/white haired women who look far more stylish than me (even with my efforts at dyeing it), but then I've never looked smart/pulled-together. Now I am fat and ageing rapidly. Blech.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 20/08/2016 11:08

toad. Ah, I know. Have never had a manicure in my life, hair is a frizzy, badgerish nightmare, wardrobe is awful and refuse to discuss feet. I do wear earrings, though. And perfume. Am a bit of a perfume addict, actually.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/08/2016 11:09

Oh no AGL what's up?

Squidge, it was nice but not exactly what a girl dreams of.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/08/2016 11:10

That makes me sound awful! I love my DP with all my heart and I cannot wait to marry him. I'm not that shallow awful I promise.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 20/08/2016 11:11

being. You must share! (opens Kettle Chips)

toadgirl · 20/08/2016 11:14

Jess

Another thing we have in common!!!!

I've never had a manicure or a facial in my life. I got some vouchers from a work colleague years ago (she must have thought I needed help) but I ended up not getting around to booking an appointment and the voucher expired. Hate my feet. Blush

Lost cause really!

I have been a real perfume addict in the past and love reading about the classic perfumes and their ingredients. Very sad about how perfume has changed recently. They are not such works of art any more. Lots of ingredients banned now, of course. Some for good reasons (animal welfare) but a lot of perfumes are so linear and no staying power nowadays. Even some classics have been messed with.

toadgirl · 20/08/2016 11:15

Being

It's not shallow. If it is, then I am very shallow. RL has never measured up to the fantasies I have in my mind.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 20/08/2016 11:18

toad. Have you been on fragrantica.com? I was completely obsessed with that site a while back (before I discovered MN, of course)

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/08/2016 11:21

If anyone knows me, this will out me....

It was my 21st birthday and he took me to a nice restaurant and was being actually nice to me (our relationship is built on loving insults so that was a bit weird for me) and then he listed all the jewellery he'd ever bought me.

"I've bought you necklaces and bracelets and earrings, I guess this is all that's left."

Then he was down on one knee with the ring and just staring at me. I just looked back because I'm meanhe hadn't actually asked me anything yet until he finally asked me the question.

It was a Wednesday so the restaurant was quiet and no one noticed it happen and that was it. It was done.

He claims he had a whole speech planned but forgot it. I asked him recently why he didn't ask me in Disneyland (we went there like 6 weeks after) as he knows it's my spiritual home and he looked all annoyed and said he hadn't thought of that.

toadgirl · 20/08/2016 11:21

Oh yes, Jess love that site!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/08/2016 11:22
  • I'm mean
toadgirl · 20/08/2016 11:27

Being I like that proposal! It's cute :)

I know what you mean about Disneyland though - that would have made a lot of sense. Why don't men think of these things? I'll never understand them. At the risk of sounding sexist, they do seem to miss these opportunities that I would have thought glaringly obvious. Happens in every relationship to me. I used to think it was just me!

My husband (second one) didn't really propose properly either. We just kind of decided. He'd make little jokes about us being married early on. Then, we moved in together and we kind of agreed to do it but there was no formal proposal and we had to go shopping for the ring.

What I really would have liked was a holiday in Vegas where we got really drunk (he never gets drunk anyway and isn't a partier) and then got married by an Elvis look-a-like and came home and announced that we'd got married on a whim abroad.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 20/08/2016 11:29

being. As one who has never been proposed to, I did find it rather sweet. But also understand what you mean. In the internet age, we are bombarded with videos/ideas of the 'perfect proposal' and it's no wonder you found yours 'lacking' in comparison. But he loves you. And he wants to marry you. And I completely understand why! You are very loveable!

(don't get me started on the hideous, puke-worthy craze for 'prom-posals', though)

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 20/08/2016 11:36

toad. That is the sort of wedding I would like!

I had to leave Fragrantica. It got silly (addictive personality, much?). I was blind-buying stuff every week. I also got worried after my DS's ASD diagnosis about my own narrow/limited interests. I truly was obsessed. And it's an expensive 'habit' (not to mention the irony of someone with a booze addiction hoarding small but pretty bottles of what is essentially alcohol!)

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/08/2016 11:40

Yeah, I think you are right. The Internet and films have ruined my expectations.

We are having a proper wedding though because I am planning it. Grin

toadgirl · 20/08/2016 11:42

Jess If I ever get married again in those circumstances, I'll be sure to invite you! We'd have a wild time.

Fragrantica is a great site. Some really creative writers on there. I know what you mean. I used to be a big poster on GossipRocks (the laughs we had!) but it was taking over my life. As is MN now, it seems!

toadgirl · 20/08/2016 11:44

I didn't know that about your DS, Jess. What kinds of things is your DS into? :)

toadgirl · 20/08/2016 11:45

We are having a proper wedding though because I am planning it

That's the spirit. With our help, of course.

toadgirl · 20/08/2016 11:45

AGL I am a bit (a lot) worried about you. Please tell MummyToad what the matter is. I thought you'd still be on a high after your results.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 20/08/2016 11:52

DS is Lego obsessed. Completely. When he's not playing with the actual stuff, he wants to look at Lego books and magazines, and also the You Tube stop motion videos featuring mini-figures. I have to be careful with these as he has a speech condition called echolia, which means rather than putting his own sentences together, he repeats phrases he has heard with no relation to his current circumstances.

One video, Lego School, had the 'teacher' telling the pupils to 'sit down and shut up'. Twas rather awkward going about with a four year old who kept yelling 'Sit down and shut up'! Also have to be very careful if I stub a toe/step on evil Lego - one swear word and he'll be repeating it for a week!
