Bad Moms- why cast Mila Kunis?

Just seen the advert for this new film, and the poster showing Mila Kunis as the lead role.

I know she's a great actress but why cast a 33 year old to be the mother of based on the preview are children who are at least 11 or 12?

All the other 'Bad Moms' are actresses in their late 30s early 40s?

I was looking forward to this film, had only read reviews of what it was going to be about but this will annoy me!

I'm 35 and my sons nearly 15

Just5minswithDacre · 19/08/2016 09:32

Memories we're discussing women who start their families in their early twenties.

Do try to keep up, dear.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 19/08/2016 09:33

I get you op.

Hollywood is positively phobic about women over the age of, say, 35.

It leads to ludicrous casting like a 40 year old actress playing the mother of a 35 year old actor etc etc.

DownWithThisSortaThing · 19/08/2016 09:36

My SIL was a grandma at 36.
Married at 18 and had her first not long after. Her son and his girlfriend had their first at 18 and went on to marry and have 2 more.

It's really not unusual in my opinion. I had my son at 24 and didn't feel like a 'young mum' at all, just normal.

I think it is just more normal now to have children later - for example some of my friends have said they are waiting until their 30s before even thinking about it, because they want to focus on their careers first.
Whereas a few decades ago this didn't really happen as much - my mum had her first at 21 (in the 70s) and was considered fairly old by her peers!

wigglesrock · 19/08/2016 09:36

I have an 11 year old. I'm 42, my best "school mum friend" is 34, she has a 15, 13, 11 year old. Another one of our friends has an 11 year old - she's 54.

notanotherusername123 · 19/08/2016 09:36

Um I'm 31 and have a 12yr old

bibbitybobbityyhat · 19/08/2016 09:37

Also, out of all my friends, acquaintances and cousins, the youngest mum was 28 (and she had a husband who was 10 years older than her) with the average age to have a first baby more like 34/35. But then I am one of those irritating middle class Lunnun types.

PeppaAteMySoul · 19/08/2016 09:38

At 33 I will have a 13 year old and a 10 year old. It's young but obviously does happen so not sure why it's unrealistic paticurlarly.

Absy · 19/08/2016 09:42

I saw it differently - maybe Mila wants to play a mom as she is one in real life, and she's sick of playing "hot girlfriend" (see Ted movies) and wants something closer to what her life is like. I don't know

Shizzlestix · 19/08/2016 09:43

She's an actor. Plenty of actors are supposed to be different ages. The cast of Grease-some of them were 20 odd, one was in her 30s-they're meant to be teenagers. Being a mum of a 12 year old at 33 is perfectly reasonable. YABU.

Advicepls7080 · 19/08/2016 09:45

The beginning of the film literally says I became a mum at 20 for the first time

DisneyMillie · 19/08/2016 09:47

I don't think the casting is at all unreasonable but I can see the OPs point as personally I don't know anyone who had a child before 30. I've just had my second at 36 and that's about average at my dd (admittedly private) school.

I also work in a "professional" field and there are a lot of 25 ish year olds and none of them would consider children yet - they're all too busy focusing on careers and partying. I know my experience is limited though and doesn't reflect all society.

BarbLives · 19/08/2016 09:50

Isn't the average age to have a first child about 27? So there are plenty of 20 year old mums to balance out those 35-40 year olds.

Trifleorbust · 19/08/2016 09:52

Doesn't the film have several different mums, and some are in their 40s? This really is a non-issue.

Just5minswithDacre · 19/08/2016 09:53

I don't know why we're all engaging with this goady fuckery. I fully expect OP's next thread to be about how gross menopausal women look accompanying tweens Hmm

AndYourBirdCanSing · 19/08/2016 09:55

Aren't you viewed as being a 'young adult' until 25? So you could be described as a young mum if that's the case

I had just turned 26 when I had mine and was the youngest in most situations. Majority of women I know had their first from 30. I did get married at 23 though which I do think is pretty young looking back!

Charmed18 · 19/08/2016 09:58

I'm 31 and my mum is 51...my grandparents are 71. Biscuit

iklboo · 19/08/2016 10:01

A girl I went to school with was a grandmother at 33.

TheImprobableGirl · 19/08/2016 10:02

By 40 I will have an 18 year old and a 15 year old! (This was my life plan due to bring on my cruise and leaving the littlies at home) they are 2 and 5 atm so I like to plan in advance!

MermaidTears · 19/08/2016 10:05

Nope when I'm 33 my eldest will be 13. But I do get your point. Round the school the mums are 96% of the time ten years older (at least) than me.

readyforno2 · 19/08/2016 10:06

My ds will be 11 when I'm 33.
My friends dd will be 12 when she's 33.
Another friend is 36 with an 18 year old.

Advicepls7080 · 19/08/2016 10:08

How ignorant are some people :s

I became a mum at 24 no one I know was a mum younger yet I am aware people have children younger than 24 Confused

OiWithThePoodlesAlready · 19/08/2016 10:10

Another one who will have an 11 year old at 33. One of my friends will have a 16 year old.

MrsFarm · 19/08/2016 10:10

I'm 36 and have a 15 yr old...
Seems not that uncommon going by this thread

GinAndPhonics82 · 19/08/2016 10:11

I am 33. My DS's are 15, 8, and 6.
