Bad Moms- why cast Mila Kunis?

Just seen the advert for this new film, and the poster showing Mila Kunis as the lead role.

I know she's a great actress but why cast a 33 year old to be the mother of based on the preview are children who are at least 11 or 12?

All the other 'Bad Moms' are actresses in their late 30s early 40s?

I was looking forward to this film, had only read reviews of what it was going to be about but this will annoy me!

just5 yeah it is sneery.

davos · 19/08/2016 11:10

t leads to ludicrous casting like a 40 year old actress playing the mother of a 35 year old actor etc etc.

but in this case she is playing a woman of her own age. Who had a child at 20. It's not ludicrous at all

hazelnutlatte · 19/08/2016 11:12

I (kind of) agree with the OP (even though the OP has changed her mind!) Not because it's unrealistic for a 33 year old to be a mum of teenagers, but because it's annoying that Hollywood films always have young, beautiful, thin, wealthy looking women playing the role of a supposedly typical mum. I haven't seen the film but it seems that this one at least acknowledges the fact that Mila's character is a young mum, most films don't bother to do this.

I'm 32.

I Have a 14 year old, 12yr old and 10month old.

RavioliOnToast · 19/08/2016 11:17

When I'm 33 my DD will be 14!!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 19/08/2016 11:56

I didn't find op's question goady or insulting at all, but then I didn't have my children young so perhaps it doesn't affect me Confused.

My point, and I think op's point is, why not have someone closer to 40 playing this role, which is more realistic across the general population

But then I read that the film is about a woman who had her child very young and so I can see the point of the casting, and this is not an example of Hollywood ageism. So that's me told, and op too!

But that ageism towards women exists in bucketloads in the film and tv industry - you can't really argue about that.

Idontthinkso1980 · 19/08/2016 12:04

I would love to see her in person and lick her face

SheHasAWildHeart · 19/08/2016 12:05

I think maybe the movie producers might have wanted to show a range of different mothers from those in early 30s to those in their late 40s?

ThatIsNachoCheese · 19/08/2016 12:39

I'm 36 and have a 17 year old! YABU

Yeah met her twice at a pool party

sailawaywithme · 19/08/2016 20:59

I couldn't agree more. The film is very funny in places (Kristen Bell is wonderful) but Mila Kunis is hopelessly miscast. She looks like she's the older sister.

FayaMAMA · 19/08/2016 21:01

Most of my friends haven't even considered having children yet (mid-20s) but my DDs will be 13 when I'm 33 too. I'm considered very young at the (pre)school gates, but DDs attend a fee paying school and I suppose most people who have children while still in education can't afford to do that (most parents are in their mid 30s-early 50s). Anyway, I can't wait to go and see this film - I'm nowhere near as much of a 'bad' mom as the characters in the film but can absolutely relate!

Thisismyalias · 19/08/2016 21:01

Meh its part of the plot.

sailawaywithme · 19/08/2016 21:04

But in the film she plays someone with a high-powered job, a massive house, etc. certainly typical of someone who has a college degree, etc. And before i get a slew of responses about people who had three kids by age 12 and still managed to get a Ph.D, I think it's fair to suggest that many/most people "these days" with that level of education and professional/financial success, did not have children at age 24.

FWIW Most people I know would consider 24 as very young to have children (again, factoring in at least an undergraduate degree, etc.)

milkyface · 19/08/2016 21:06

When I'm 33 ds will be 13!

Clearly not that uncommon....

sailawaywithme · 19/08/2016 21:14

To me, the point is not whether it's realistic that a 33 year old can have a 12 year old. It's that Mila Kunis looks about 20 in the film. The character she plays is as middle class as they come...and yes, that adds to the lack of plausibility about the character.

And there's nothing in the film about her being a young mum..on the contrary, there are lots of jokes about how she's the oldest person in her office by some distance.

I don't much care how old random MNs were when they had children...but Mila Kunis was a terrible choice for this role. (Incidentally, Kristen Bell plays the parent much younger kids). End of.
