If you had this physical 'quirk' would you try and rectify it? AIBU and superficial?

Firstly I am going to get these pictures deleted after a while as it's very embarrassing.

Ive always hated my ears. They are a weird shape. One is slightly better than the other as you can see from the pictures.

I debated for years before getting my ears pierced.

if you had these ears, would you seek correctional surgery?

Are they very unsightly?

I mostly wear my hair down.

Please be honest!

I wonder if this kind of surgery is even possible?

Thanks for reading.

I'm aware that there are more important things and that my hearing is perfect so I'm really lucky but... Sad

You can't deem other people's problems are unworthy because you struggle with worse, what a ridiculous concept. "One upping" people's issues is a vile thing to do, everyone's feelings are valid.

Italiangreyhound · 16/08/2016 22:39

The look lovely and delicate to me.

MollyRedskirts · 16/08/2016 22:48

Midlifehope, just because your son has a 'worse' problem doesn't mean that the OP's problem isn't valid. Even though there is nothing wrong with her ears, she posted about something that has affected her psychologically for a long time. I think she was incredibly brave.

In fact, thinking about it, how dare you be upset about mere hearing aids when I've had cancer! And my son has autism! If only he had to cope with hearing aids! You have no idea how hard I've had it and I am pissed off at how shallow you're being.

See? See how ridiculous that sounds?!

tralaaa · 16/08/2016 22:59

I understand they haven't got the 'folds' in but I think there nice along with good skin and nice hair leave them alone

Cherry321 · 16/08/2016 23:01

They are fine and your earrings are lovely!!

fanoir · 16/08/2016 23:10

Honestly my first thought when I looked at the picture was how cute, like an elf or pixie ear! Sorry if that's patronising but you did ask for opinions. It is barely noticeable unless you're actually looking close up anyway but I would never describe it as a flaw

Beautifulstorm · 16/08/2016 23:13

Nope. They look fine to me :)

HelloSunshine11 · 17/08/2016 09:31

Midlifehope, my son is profoundly deaf in one ear, moderately deaf in the other. We're going for a fitting for his first set of aids next week. I know all about having children with hearing problems but that really doesn't mean I can't still feel self-conscious about my own. Don't be a dick.

midlifehope · 17/08/2016 13:01

Sorry but there's a war in Syria and this op cares about the shape of her ears even though, as she says 'she can hear fine'. Well they are doing their job then aren't they. Now she should stop navel gazing and turn her attention away from her 'psychological problem'. I'm not going to apologise for feeling angered by her superficial problem. Get the hell over the shape of your ears. Grrrrr.

ladylambkin · 17/08/2016 13:06

Your ears are lovely please don't worry about them

Lottielou7 · 17/08/2016 13:09

I think your ears are pretty, seriously. I used to dislike my nose but now I'm a bit horrified that I considered a nose job.

StarlingMurmuration · 17/08/2016 13:11

Oh FFS. We'd have to shut the whole of mumsnet if we had to pause every time we posted to ask if our problem is comparable to the suffering in Syria. It's possible to be aware of and abhor war and suffering and also be a bit insecure about something, you know.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 17/08/2016 13:12

Tbh your ears are less "unsightly" than most. Ears are very odd.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 17/08/2016 13:13

Even people from a war zone can be worried by the shape of their ears.
One doesn't negate the other.

My STBXH has utter paranoia about his ears, and was diagnosed with body dysmorphia as he's so fixated on the horrible flaws he has, which I might add are flaws barely visible to others.

He's always felt like this, even for the first couple of decades of his life which were spent in a very dangerous war zone, with death and bombings going on as part of daily life.

He's been through hell, yet can still feel ashamed of his ears.

SpaceDinosaur · 17/08/2016 13:14

Has a dog bitten it off?!! Bloody stupid question, a dog bite would not look like that for one thing!

Has anyone mentioned anything since you were 10?

I actually like it! If anyone ever noticed it and commented I would tell them it's because I'm part pixie. But Noone would notice. Sad

Now, tie your hair into a topknot and crack on with being awesome. There is nothing wrong with you. You notice things because you're looking for them but honestly no one else does. Promise.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 17/08/2016 13:15

And by "less unsightly" I mean they aren't unsightly at all.

If I were you and you already have the money earmarked (!) for the surgery I'd spend it on fabulously expensive earrings.

user1471433754 · 17/08/2016 13:18

Lovely dainty ears. I really don't see any problem with them.

grannyinwaiting · 17/08/2016 13:19

Both myself and dd2 have microtia
I had 32 surgeries as a child to 'fix' mine and she has chosen for now to have none. I used to get really fed up when people hasd surgery to pin back ears when I was little and in hospital yet again for painful failing surgery and when dd was born vowed to give her the choice. Sometimes I wish I had a 'proper' ear but to be honest we are happy and accepting as we are now

issynoho · 17/08/2016 13:26

I'm glad this thread has made you feel better OP.

What you need now is to decide on your shit hot story about your ears - shark attack, descended from fairies? I'm sure the rest of MN can come up with a few ideas.

YourNewspaperIsShit · 17/08/2016 13:28

I've never said this to a poster but midlifehope I really don't think MN is for you because every problem on this site is lesser than the war in Syria.

ABloodyDifficultWoman · 17/08/2016 13:34

How odd midlife - whether the OP chooses to do nothing or chooses to have her ears digitized, computerised, shaved, permed or made to look like colanders there will still be a war in Syria. You could apply your warped logic to pretty much every single think anyone thinks or does and there would still be a war in Syria. Have a word with yourself ffs before you say this shit out loud.

MrsGsnow18 · 17/08/2016 13:44

I get that you are self conscious sometimes OP.
Doesn't everyone have that one body part that they dislike?
Mine is my nose ( crooked with a Huge hook) I actually used to be afraid to let people see me side on! I still hate it but no way would I get surgery ( I'm too chicken and also too broke and it's my nose, it makes me who I am!)

My ears also are an issue not because of their shape but because I have bad ecezma and my ears are always flaky/ gross/ sometimes bleeding Shock people occasionally ask about it.
I wear my hair down most of the time too, but their are other days I just don't care.

You're ears in my opinion look fine, I can see what you mean since you pointed out the shape of one, but so what? Everyone is different and it's just a little quirk you have that prob very few people would ever notice unless pointed out and then even then they'd still prob think nothing of it.

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 17/08/2016 13:53

@midlifehope:
Oh dear.

JessicaEccles · 17/08/2016 13:57

Ever since seeing 'The Hobbit' and LoTR, I have loved my pointed ears Grin. You have very cute ears- but isn't it sad how one horrible throwaway comment can still affect us all these years later?

KittyKrap · 17/08/2016 14:16

I have pointy ears too! Never bothered me. DH used to wear a ton of earrings - about 9 - in his left ear, he's convinced he now has a big ear and little ear. I wind him up about it but you'd never tell.

I also have a wonky tooth, it's cute. But I had 6 injections at the dentist, everything numbed and made my tooth look all protruding. Mil calls me Nanny McPhee now Grin
