To put a box dye over my freshly highlighted hair?

Just paid £70 to have my hair turned into a stripy yellow mess Sad in devastated. I love my natural hair colour and just wanted a few honey caramels putting through but didn't want a colour change at all. I've come out with a complete mess.

It's yellow all over, stripy and the stripes start about 2cm from my scalp so it looks a few weeks old already.

I want it sorted immediately as I'm off out tonight and going on holiday tomorrow. Can I put a light ash blonde hair dye over my hair? Will this help blend it all a bit more?

Please help SadSad

FruitCider The OP is saying its two cm and from the photo it looks a lot especially the bit I've circled. Imagine if the OPs hair was being highlighted a more contrasting colour - it would look terrible.

The dye should nearly reach the scalp. I know the students at my salon would fail for such a big gap.

Really not that bad, don't put anything on it. Just use purple shampoo and give it a toner. Sometimes it takes a couple of days for the colour to look it's best.

It looks like the hair dresser has used thick sections, which would explain the gap. I would rather have a slightly bigger gap than risk it bleed! But it's all personal preference I get.

OP if you want the hairdresser to correct it when you get back do NOT dye it!

Ah sorry to hear you had a shit time too, Harry. It's scary when you don't have a clue how to fix it yourself.

Whether the highlights look like they start 0.5cm or 2cm from my scalp, the point being I didn't want any of the visible on the entire top of my head!

Oh but the dye is sitting there looking at me. Shall I try dying a section at least? Just the top bit? Then put the purple shampoo on?

I wouldn't dye it as the sun will lift the colour and then your hair can be looked at by hairdresser when u return

Please do an allergy test. You'll look even worse with no hair on holiday! If you use the colourant you've bought you shouldn't need the silver toner as your hair will be its normal colour?

if ur desperate i would dye the top bit. where your parting sits pick up a section of hair 1cm deep alonside both sides of ur parting and about the same at the back then colour that bit.

It's here! It says not to use until two weeks after colouring, should I ignore this?

Omg you'll run your hair if you use more dye. Just wear your hair up until you get back.

It's nothing like you requested but it's not hideous.

That touch of silver is really good. It has worked for me in the past.

One more question, am I dying it all the way to the ends?

gingerbreadmanm · 15/08/2016 21:47

yep all the way to the ends but only that section. if u preferred more of.an.ombre you could backcomb the sections from about 1 1/2 inches down the length of the hair.and.colour from the root down to where the backcomb starts.

cant find a decent pic but basically where the line.is on here where the dark meets the blonde thats roughly where you want to backcomb. it just blends.the.colour so you dont get a straight line.

Purple shampoo will Deffo help. I use it all the time. I agree that touch of silver isn't the best. Bleach London is good but Lee Stafford also do a good one and so do Fudge if Tesco stock those? X

The sun will help. I think that it looks pretty in the up pic.

Wow it's turned from "box dye to fix it" to DIY ombré! Good luck OP.

PS touch of silver is great

Just put the dye on to get it back to your natural colour. It's worth the risk as you hate your hair anyway now. Touch of silver won't do anything unless you use it repeatedly and even then it won't make the highlights less stripey or more natural- actually what will happen is the opposite if anything, it is shit I have found
Tell the hairdresser you have had to put a box dye on it to resolve for now but will be returning when you come back off holiday for them to do what you wanted in the first place. I work in a salon and would offer to do this anyway if I'd done that to you however it is very annoying if a client leaves and doesn't complain until another time, in future say at the time of leaving or as soon as after, she could have sorted this tonight and forgot about it if you'd have mentioned earlier.
