To put a box dye over my freshly highlighted hair?

Just paid £70 to have my hair turned into a stripy yellow mess Sad in devastated. I love my natural hair colour and just wanted a few honey caramels putting through but didn't want a colour change at all. I've come out with a complete mess.

It's yellow all over, stripy and the stripes start about 2cm from my scalp so it looks a few weeks old already.

I want it sorted immediately as I'm off out tonight and going on holiday tomorrow. Can I put a light ash blonde hair dye over my hair? Will this help blend it all a bit more?

Please help SadSad

Look, even allowing for the fact that it might look worse IRL (it honestly looks fine on my iPad screen) you risk making it far, far worse!

Lesson learnt NOT to get your hair dyed the day before anything special. I too had to learn the hard way!

Ihopeyouhadthetimeofyourlife · 15/08/2016 19:57

I have put nice and easy light or medium ash blonde over similar highlights with no ill effects....

AllOfTheWinePlease · 15/08/2016 19:57

Purple shampoo is amazing. Try that first - leave it in for 10 mins! Cools down the colour. (The pics you've put up though look really nice anyway!)

PatMullins · 15/08/2016 19:57

Yes you leave it on for 5 minutes and it acts as a toner. It's good stuff and will take the yellow out Smile

PatMullins · 15/08/2016 19:58

xpost with just about everyone...

HerdsOfWilderbeest · 15/08/2016 20:00

Don't put another box on it. If you're off on holiday the sun will also affect it all.

pinkieandperkie · 15/08/2016 20:02

A couple of years ago my ds bleached his hair and it was yellow. I sorted it out with purple shampoo. It tones the colour right down. Your picture looks fine though.

mirrorballs · 15/08/2016 20:03

Yes to purple shampoo and leave it on for 5-10 mins. Do not put ash blonde on that,.I did similar - it went grey and green

FortVenturer · 15/08/2016 20:04

I look like a bee.

I've got my strand sitting in dye and I'm convincing DH to go get me some purple shampoo as he's already dressed and ready to go out, I am in the midst of a meltdown sitting in my underwear.

The Sun will probably lighten your hair further and with luck you will end up with a more blended look. I agree with others, I wouldn't do anything now...

memyselfandaye · 15/08/2016 20:06

Ash blonde is fine to put over highlights, it will be fine.

AndYourBirdCanSing · 15/08/2016 20:07

Yes that's the one

user7755 · 15/08/2016 20:07

I bleached my own, it went quite brassy so I bought some purple shampoo. After a few washes it was fine - I love it in fact. And it only cost 3.99 for the bleach and £6 each for the shampoo and conditioner but still cheaper than a salon!

randomer · 15/08/2016 20:07

could you phone them tomorrow and ask for a toner?

amusedbush · 15/08/2016 20:08

Don't bother with Touch of Silver, get Bleach London purple shampoo and conditioner from Boots. Leave the shampoo on for about 15 minutes and then condition it, it'll brighten right up.

piknmixer · 15/08/2016 20:09

It looks really nice in the photo honestly!

I use this every 6 weeks on my fully bleached hair - it's a semi so it doesn't damage it. £3 from Superdrug, it will tone it right down but if you're going somewhere sunny expect it to strip it fairly quickly.

If you can't do it in the morning buy one and take it with you perhaps?

Rooberoobe · 15/08/2016 20:11

Firstly it's nowhere near as bad as you think.
Purple combats the yellow tones. As someone whose chosen to go silver/ grey it really does work as soon as mine is a bit yellow I slap on the purple shampoo and its instantly much better. I prefer Bleach London (only in boots) as I think it works better on my hair. If I want to try and take out as much yellow as I can I put it on dry hair and leave for about 5 mins. However this can give mine a slight purple tint (which I don't mind) as its bleached all over.

mirpuppet · 15/08/2016 20:12

Looks fine.

Have a lovely holiday!

FruitCider · 15/08/2016 20:12

There's nothing wrong with those highlights! I would say they are fairly close to your roots and as an ex hairdresser they are exactly the shade they should be given your base colour. They are honey blonde highlights... Isn't that what you asked for? Or do you mean you wanted a finer weave with the foils so they looked more blended?

CatchingBabies · 15/08/2016 20:14

It's not as bad as you think, really. Purple shampoo will work wonders.

Olympiathequeen · 15/08/2016 20:15

Touch of silver total waste of time. A soft ash blonde may work but you are never supposed to apply hair dye without a 24-48 hour skin test as they can be horribly allergenic.

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 15/08/2016 20:15

DO NOT HOME COLOUR YOUR HAIR.
From the photos it looks fine. Like pp have said purple shampoo it and the sun will do the rest.
Call the salon (maybe even leave a message if your going early tomorrow / or PM via FB page) just to register your complaint to make it easier for a correction on your return!
Honestly, I know people who have said they don't like the colour of a colour job and the salon will redo it

Olympiathequeen · 15/08/2016 20:16

Your hair doesn't look too bad if you come from Essex and talk Estuary

tralaaa · 15/08/2016 20:17

Just seen photos I like it it's nice

ClopySow · 15/08/2016 20:18

You really don't look like a bee, it just seems like it to you.

I got something similar and thought it looked fucking awful. Everyone else genuinely liked it.

I think it just feels so in your face when it's your own hair and you keep going back to the mirror to look at it.
