I went to a beer garden today with the boy (6) and the dog (on a lead, well behaved) to kill an hour of time.
I spent that hour listening to a 'woman' (looked like a teenage girl) growling at her kids, 2 under 4, shrieking, calling them fucking little cunts, snatching toys off them for no reasons, barking at them, encouraging them to scare the dog 'to see if he was friendly', as she downed pints and shots, and left when a drinks tray flew at my face and she came over to retrieve it...not to apologise, as I assumed one of the kids had thrown it, but to laugh in my face as she said "well they wouldn't fucking share it so I fucking threw it away innit." No apology. Laughing at herself for nearly clouting a stranger in the face with a tray. I'm usually quite ballsy but Jesus, she seemed insane and quite volatile, so, feeling extremely sorry for her kids, I quietly left.
I've just had a text from my bank to say my bank card has been fraudulently used. I checked my bag. My wallet - which was on the table in the pub garden, is not there. The little scrunge not only terrified my dog and threw a drinks tray at my face and screamed at her kids all afternoon, it seems she nicked my wallet too.
I'm meant to move house tomorrow. I need to pay £2,200 that I have worked my arse off for, to a letting agents at 10am. Luckily for me I can go to my bank with ID and get it out. Unluckily for her, I left my phone on the table recording SB playing with the dog (making cute memories to listen to when I'm down) and caught all her shit in there too.
First move, calling the pub to see if they have CCTV in the garden.
Second stop, if she can be identified, social services?
I am a genuinely reasonable, decent person. But Jesus Christ, this thing hit all my nerves today. And her kids deserve her getting some help.

I just went and read the thread up above that was linked. The 'I'm jack Monroe thread'..I know who you are now.

I have to admit I dont really give a shit about genders etc. I can't be arsed debating it. People are who they are. I don't give a shit how they dress, how they define themselves, what sexuality they define themselves as. So I'd never come across you. I like you. I think the right thing to do is contact the police and just say what you heard and if they get the cctv and recognise her you'd like to be able to pass on what happened to Ss.

I can't imagine you would be happy to jist sit back and let it go without it eating away at you.

Jack, genuinely - don't take things so personally on here. You've had tonnes of good advice on here, supportive, structured comments - unfortunately even if you hadn't logged in under your normal username, you'd have had a load of posters raising their eyebrows. It's not necessarily you, it's just MN at the moment. Everyone is getting raised eyebrows! So please, use the positive replies to structure how you deal with this situation rather than fight and challenge those who are dubious. Try to focus your attention more proactively - one thing I've realised in this lifetime is fighting everybody tooth and nail about the small stuff is exhausting and pointless.

I mean that very sincerely - I notice you are a strong character who fights for their opinion, but sometimes it's just OK for people to disagree, and you just have to try and accept that there are some shitty people in this world (I'm referring to the trolls on Twitter here) but we can't fight em all.

Who cares who the OP was?

No offence btw

She should have reported this to the police and gotten advice from nspcc ASAP.

This mother was loud, abusive, obnoxious, thieving and could have potentially been very dangerous.

I don't care if she was "unsupported and at the end of her tether". That does not excuse her behaviour and potentially two little children could have been seriously hurt

Jack, I get where you are coming from. Because I have been there. You witnessed something horrible and feel you did nothing and maybe could have/should have done. Sometimes doing something at the time means that the adult takes it out on the child behind closed doors, so at least that has been avoided. However, you have more info than I did when I saw what I saw. 'It was a woman on a bus replacement service to Watford' would have turned off the police faster than a light switch.
As for posters giving the OP a hard time, this is not a playground of bitchy 14yr olds. Jack should be commended for using her own name, not vilified and forced to hide. And of that is deemed a 'sucky' comment, then suck it up.

Posters get picked apart on here all the time. You get picked apart in RL all the time. Try not to take them both the same, because the picking apart on here mostly isn't personal to you. Its just the cunty side of MN.

Hope that makes sense.

If you did have an anonymous name again you would have had worse treatment on this thread actually, because no one would have believed it.

Do you have any PCSOs in your area Jack? They are sometimes more useful than the 'actual' police as they get to know the area, or are from the area.

I work in a v deprived estate. The local PCSO is a gem - he lives on the estate himself and knows the characters/names of the people around him. I've spoken to him on a number of occasions about incidents where I don't know the people involved, but can describe them. In each case he's been able to identify them and take my report further.

Might be worth a shot?

Mx Jack- sometimes all you can do is try. With the best will in the world- you couldn't track down that parent unless the police are involved at the time. Those poor children though :(.

Hope the move goes well, and that it's not too much hassle getting your bank card sorted. We moved last September and my bank account has just about recovered!

Playing devil's advocate, she might have been at the end of her rope, she might be under supported, overwhelmed or have a myriad of problems.

Well, I am also at the end of my rope, under supported, overwhelmed and have a myriad of problems. However, I have never called my children names, even in my most irritable, unreasonable and screechy moments when I know I'm being

Did you ask the pub about her? She might be a regular. They might know her by name, or know someone who does.

In my early twenties I bought a homeless man a drink in a pub.
My friend took a shine to him and invited him back to his flag where the three of us had an impromptu party - drink, drugs etc. he partook in both.
Woke up on the sofa the next day and our new friend had gone.
Went home, two days later went to withdraw some money from the cash point - empty.

The police had CCTV of him at the cash point down the road that morning, but because he must have seen my PIN when I bought him the drink so there was no official crime committed according to the bank.

People are arse holes sometimes.

OP would be better off name changing if she wants anonymity. She's apparently well known so there are going to be a mix of people kissing her ass and wanting to pile in.

People are arseholes. But that homeless guy was probably desperate for money, although that doesn't excuse crime of course.

Bit different from this child abusing woman.

'You famous people need to stick together , eh, Empty.'

WTF Usual? I wrote briefest of posts pointing obvious fact that people should hit report if suspect JM a troll - a post I'd have written whtether JM stood for Jack Monroe or Jo -Bloggs Matthews and you feel need have some kind of dig at me? Angry

What's wrong with you? And no clue who or what you think I am, not that that matters anyway in a post about possible child abuse FFS. I've got one other thread only under NN so no clue what you meant anyway (although that thread would explain why I'm so bloody hormonal at the moment that your pop at me has got under my skin sufficiently for me to bother responding to you - something suspect would not bother with if wasn't so bloody vulnerable with mood right now).

Bullying is dickish, as is acting like a bloody stalker referencing stuff you think you know about me. Leave me alone ok and don't try bully me via very overt comment me directly to me and me alone simply as had temerity to suggest people use the bloody report button. Nasty.

I know fanjo (my phone tried to change that to 'fanni', why dies it think that's a word? Blush)
I also know that I derailed quite badly. Started a new thread about it. This just reminded me because of the theft - I'd all but forgotten it

On a more relevant note, I saw a woman having an ongoing blazing row with her ~12 year old son at the bus stop the other day. Squaring up to him, calling him a cunt, threatening to slap him etc. He was being a bit lippy but nothing to warrant that, IMO. Made me feel sick but I couldn't think of anything practical I could do to help. It's an awful feeling and why a lot of these people get away with doing things like this in public; people are too frightened to intervene.

Bile like that was spewed at me throughout
my childhood and it's made me insistent that I won't have children. I have various issues that wouldn't make it 'safe' for me to do so (by my own judgement, that is).
My sister seems to have followed in our fathers footsteps, unfortunately.

The bank won't seem to care even if it is obvious who stole it. My card was cloned and all they were bothered about was getting multiple signed assurances that it wasn't me who spent the money. They even had an address that goods ordered were being sent to (400 miles away from me). It drove me mad.

Some of the responses on this thread have been ridiculous and it's got nothing to do with who the IP is or isn't. It's just nasty individuals determined to not only disagree but slag of the OP, regardless of whether they are in the right or not. You see it on all sorts of threads. Doesn't matter how reasonable OP sounds there will always be someone horrible just for the sake of it!

The comment about who leaves their wallet lying on a pub table is completely mad - people obviously don't do it on purpose, but we all can be distracted at times!

Report
LunaLoveg00d · 13/08/2016 09:12

At least the bank was on the ball and realised something not right with transaction. They are getting much better at this sort of thing - they picked up very quickly last month that it probably wasn't me spending just shy of £1000 in M&S furniture dept and cancelled our cards. That's different to someone taking your wallet though and trying to use your cards, and especially with contactless I don't see how they could detect fraud nearly as easily as you don't need to sign or enter a PIN.

This woman sounds like an absolute delight and if she is as bad as the OP says she is probably known to social services already. If she's a regular in the pub the staff may know who she is.

If she was a teenager, she shouldn't have been in the pub without being ID- so if you ask them they may well remember something about her? They should have CCTV
