So me and DP are currently rennovating our new house, and last night randomly had a conversation about the stuff that we currently have that we will not need and can donate to good will..
We currently live in a small one bed flat with no garden so have a clothes horse and a tumble dryer, (Dryer for the big bits like Jeans and bedding etc every thing else on the clothes horse)
In the new house there will be a garden with a clothes line and some where for the tumble dryer to go. So have said that the clothes horse can be donated as we wont need it. because if it cant go out on the line due to horrid weather we can use the dryer.
DP then said no we need all three?? this is a clothes horse that is tall and wide enough to hold 4 loads of washing, AIBU to say that we could get rid of it?? Hmm

For those who tumble dry jeans - have you noticed that men's jeans, jumpers and t-shirts are generally tumble-dryable but not ladies'?

yes, this is annoying. It's because women's jeans usually have Lycra or something stretchy in them, due to us girls liking to always show off our figures to the men, you see.

I call it an airer and DH calls it a maiden. I don't like the word 'maiden' so it's an airer.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 27/07/2016 13:43

Lol.

"Let's get a maiden in for the laundry. A nice sturdy one that folds up easily"

"I'm leaving you."

scaryteacher · 27/07/2016 13:46

I have a whirligig in the garden, a tumble drier and I use the clothes airer a lot, as it's warm in the garage and stuff dries overnight. It's also useful in winter for those bits that can't be tumbled.

You will need all three imo.

e1y1 · 27/07/2016 13:46

Prepare the popcorn Grin

I have all three and use the Tumble Dryer the most Blush - yes even for jeans.

Can't bear hard crispy stuff

chough · 27/07/2016 13:47

yumyum, clint?
Explain please, I'm daft.

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 27/07/2016 13:48

rubbish. 'Folds up easily' ( clutches stomach). She can do the entire Kama sutra and dry clothes. God. I need to grow the fuck up!

seven201 · 27/07/2016 13:49

I have washing line, clothes horse, tumble drier AND our bathroom radiator is dual thingy so can be switched on separately. I love that radiator. I also have a small radiator rack and sock clip thing but I don't use those.

PinkissimoAndPearls · 27/07/2016 13:53

I must confess I'm currently reading a book about Katherine of Aragon and had a little snort to myself as I typed "maiden" Wink

I kind of want you to discuss this with your DP in the proper manner.

"Pray tell me, your Grace, I strongly desire your help in the matter of clothing dilemmas. This maiden, she should be retained for her valuable assistance with items of hose, should she not? I beg of you, let her remain in our happy abode"

Sort of thing.

God I need to get a job! Blush

Birdsgottafly · 27/07/2016 13:56

OnThe. My ex used talk about how ""we needed to buy a 'maiden'! I remember thinking WTF and dismissing it as one of his slightly bizarre sexual fantasies. He reckoned they were 'cheap at Aldi'""

I used to call it a Maiden, because my Nan did, I've now changed to Airer.

Aldi do get the Minky ones in, on Special Buys and they're cheaper than anywhere else.

Surely you need an Airer for wired bras and delicate stuff?

Perhaps get a smaller one.

e1y1 · 27/07/2016 13:57

Ah that's funny pink

Solution OP - hand all washing duties over to DH, explain specifically that certain items cannot go in dryer.

Watch and laugh at how he gets on trying to get clothes dry that can't go in dryer, and cant go on line as it rains all the the bastard time.

He will ask for the airer/maiden/horse back in 2 weeks - bet you.

Abraiid2 · 27/07/2016 13:57

Note to the snide--some of us are finding an enjoyable distraction, respite, in fact, from the ghastliness in the news by talking about laundry and paint, etc. You do what you want to do to deal with the world.

cozietoesie · 27/07/2016 13:59

I'm sorry, e1. They'll all still go in the dryer. Sad

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 27/07/2016 13:59

pink love how you've Jane Austen- ed a clothes dryer! getting ridiculous amount of pleasure from this thread which suggests I ought to get a life

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 27/07/2016 14:03

Serious note. I live in a tiny flat (no garden) with a very exuberant four year old; I generally take stuff out the washing machine (don't have a tumble dryer), put it on clothes hangers and hang it along the curtain rails. Bras/pants get hung over door handles ( resulting in frantic grabbing if we have an unexpected visitor)

SuperFlyHigh · 27/07/2016 14:04

Lorelei sorry to be pedantic but it's Philippa Gregori'ed or Alison Weir'd or Suzannah Dunn (first two do it best out of those 2 authors) - Jane Austen has lots of men with means/estates, women with little or frugal means desperate to marry who attend an endless round of dances and leave calling cards anywhere to get anyone's attention to grab a man and make friends with anyone with a suitable unmarried brother/son/father etc.

SuperFlyHigh · 27/07/2016 14:05

PS - I live in a maisonette split level flat have one of those ceiling air dryers (wooden things forget name) and a rarely used tumble dryer apart from in winter.

yumyumpoppycat · 27/07/2016 14:05

ignore me chough! Blush dp does a lint eastwood impression and thats the line he usually does!

Is that a philipa gregory pink? CoA wouldnt stand for any unwelcome maidens staying...I will retire to a nunnery before this maiden takes residence in our new abode. Flonces off with a swoosh of petticoats (which were dried on the line)

Hastalapasta · 27/07/2016 14:08

You can never have enough ways to dry clothes so keep it!

Pinkheart5915 · 27/07/2016 14:09

Ooh just noticed I done that Blush

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 27/07/2016 14:13

super not pedantic, you're absolutely right. Mr Darcy wouldn't have the foggiest about clothes horses/maidens - he'd just stroll right out of that lake and let his shirt dry naturally on his sexy little bod. I now want something similar - I could hang my bras over his ears.

RiverTam · 27/07/2016 14:17

Keep it. On sunny days you'll do big splurges of laundry which you won't be able to fit on the line. I have a line and two airers and often use all of them!

PinkissimoAndPearls · 27/07/2016 14:20

Yum it is a Phillipa Gregory book I am reading at the moment! I was always seeing her recommended on here, I know I am behind the times but thought I would give her a whirl.

See, this thread is developing nicely Smile

TheresaMarie55 · 27/07/2016 14:23

All I can take from this thread is that the maiden that you have does not fit four loads on, unless you are washing five items and calling it a load.

I also love.these threads. X

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 27/07/2016 14:25

Yes keep it.

We have that one, plus a wall mounted rotary thing and a tumble dryer. It's handy to have it.

pinkyredrose · 27/07/2016 14:28

Four loads! ! That's not a clothes horse, that's the entire fucking stable!
