So me and DP are currently rennovating our new house, and last night randomly had a conversation about the stuff that we currently have that we will not need and can donate to good will..
We currently live in a small one bed flat with no garden so have a clothes horse and a tumble dryer, (Dryer for the big bits like Jeans and bedding etc every thing else on the clothes horse)
In the new house there will be a garden with a clothes line and some where for the tumble dryer to go. So have said that the clothes horse can be donated as we wont need it. because if it cant go out on the line due to horrid weather we can use the dryer.
DP then said no we need all three?? this is a clothes horse that is tall and wide enough to hold 4 loads of washing, AIBU to say that we could get rid of it?? Hmm

would someone troll about a clothes horse? I mean, how heated can this get? I also thought it was a derogatory term for a fashion model.... (opens popcorn....)

Abraiid2 · 27/07/2016 13:10

I wash my cashmere on the delicates programme in my Bosch. Does a lovely job.

Mycatsabastard · 27/07/2016 13:10

I have a tumble drier and a whirly gig thing in the garden and three airers which are in the conservatory. Most of the time they are covered in wetsuits, swimsuits and towels.

I confess to tumble drying jeans. But not jumpers. They get put on hangers and hung in the cupboard where the drier is and they dry from the heat generated.

Does anyone want to do my ironing? There's about a fortnights worth piling up and I can't be faffed with it.

OOAOML · 27/07/2016 13:11

I think I have a cheaper version of that concertina one demented - yes much better for jeans, as you can stagger the spacing much better.

My parents have put a washing line in their greenhouse which is really good for days when they're not sure about the weather.

PuppyMonkey · 27/07/2016 13:12

(the fashion model insult thing was invented precisely because it was previously a well-known term for something - usually a bit wooden Grin - that you drape clothes over. You know, to dry).....

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 27/07/2016 13:14

puppy Aaahhh, I see..... Poor models, they have it hard... (Sniggers)

PersianCatLady · 27/07/2016 13:15

Sometimes if you dry a lot of washing indoors without proper ventilation you can be more at risk of getting mould in the property.

paxillin · 27/07/2016 13:15

I use all three. I hate what the tumble drier does to clothes after a while, so they go on the clothes horse in winter.

Please link the 4-load clothes horse, I'd love one of those..

WellErrr · 27/07/2016 13:15

Is this really all you have to worry yourself about! Lucky you......ffs really!!!! Get a life.

This thread is a prime example of the undertone of nastiness on here at the moment.
I mean REALLY? There's just no need.

OP, I'd say you need all three. Sorry. But could you downsize your clothes horse?

WellErrr · 27/07/2016 13:15

Ps I have the ceiling one which is AMAZING

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 27/07/2016 13:16

I have a rotary drier in the garden, a tumble drier, radiator airers and two clothes horses.

I find the best way to dry washing is on the clothes horse(s) with a dehumidifier on.

WoahSlowDown · 27/07/2016 13:20

I'd keep it on a trial basis and see how it goes.

BTW I like threads like this.

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 27/07/2016 13:20

For those who tumble dry jeans - have you noticed that men's jeans, jumpers and t-shirts are generally tumble-dryable but not ladies'?

Absolutely not fair.

moggle · 27/07/2016 13:25

Definitely keep it! I had to dig out our clothes horse from the garage this week because I couldn't find the clothes pegs anywhere so couldn't put things on the line. Weather was way too nice to put the dryer on. (And I'm another who hates how they shrink clothes and make hems roll up so I only use it when I have to). Anyway I discovered that clothes horses do not work when there's a toddler around - she pulled EVERYTHING off it in about ten seconds flat.
I promise that one day you will need it and you will kick yourself that you got rid of it. They fold up small those ones - my mum has one - and they are good ones, not cheap, so I'd definitely keep it.

OnTheTurningAway · 27/07/2016 13:26

Bonnie A clothes horse that holds 4 loads?!

I know! Even I'm wanting to make a den from it. You wouldn't need a house.

OP, keep it in case you split up and need accomodation, or take it camping...

RedHare I thought a clothes horse was a derogatory term for a fashion model?

Presumably the word in that context originates from the boring household item?

Pinkissimo Is a clothes horse a maiden?

Did you mean to be so rude?! Her virginal status or otherwise is none of your business. Grin

cozietoesie · 27/07/2016 13:26

Keep it, unless you're so strapped for space that you're quite desperate for that little bit of extra room. I have virtually every form of drying/airing known and still use mine for certain things and at certain times.

Donatellalymanmoss · 27/07/2016 13:30

I have an outside line, clothes horse, radiator hanging thing, Shelia maid and a tumble drier. Oh and I nearly forgot about the thing from Ikea that looks like an octopus with pegs on. Do I win a prize for dedication to laundry drying apparatus?

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 27/07/2016 13:31

Another vote here to keep it. Smile

I think if it's wooden and has four legs, it's called a clothes horse, if not it's just your normal common washing rack.

CremeEggThief · 27/07/2016 13:33

YABU. Of course you need a clothes horse. What about everything that won't go in the dryer and when the weather's wet?Confused

IAmAPaleontologist · 27/07/2016 13:36

I have a pulley Airer, a line outside and a cloth horse. Clothes horse useful for drying woollens etc that need to be dried flat. Then outside or inside depending on weather.

PickAChew · 27/07/2016 13:36

I gave a few things that can't be tumble dried. How would you dry those in bad weather?

chough · 27/07/2016 13:36

Washing rack?
Never 'eard of 'em.

LoreleiGilmoreIsMyBFF · 27/07/2016 13:40

OnThe. My ex used talk about how we needed to buy a 'maiden'! I remember thinking WTF and dismissing it as one of his slightly bizarre sexual fantasies. He reckoned they were 'cheap at Aldi'.

Pinkheart5915 · 27/07/2016 13:40

I'd keep it. It doesn't really take up a massive amount of space

I have a garden, aired and tumble dryer

yumyumpoppycat · 27/07/2016 13:41

was that a clint impression chough....he would so have a clothes horse
