Fab choice. I have eaten a few of those caterpillar segments in the past. Mmmm! Smarties :)

I will have a penguin.

Anyone else eating something from the animal or insect world for elevenses?

Bettercallsaul1 · 04/08/2016 12:53

Hope you've no other commitments today! And have surrounded yourself with food, thermos flasks, and loud music so you don't doze off!

Bettercallsaul1 · 04/08/2016 12:54

Sorry, that sage advice was to Vanilla!

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 04/08/2016 12:55

Love those M&S caterpillar cakes - although my head they are always Cecil rather than Colin

I remember when I was at Uni someone stuck the face of one to the wall in our shared kitchen - don't think the cleaner was very impressed!

M&S must have been selling them for 20 odd years now

Bettercallsaul1 · 04/08/2016 12:58

They have, shagged, and they now have a female version: Connie the Caterpillar with pink smarties and decorations. A blow struck for feminism. Grin

331994 people to go - do they actually have enough tickets??? I'm going to queue for ten hours and then the sign is going to come up saying "Sorry, we sold out at 12 noon today."

Argh, cake... don't tempt me. When I was little, Bettys in York used to sell Dougal from the Magic Roundabout cakes. I think M&S copied the idea. Or not forlegalreasons

Well, today was a child-free day. DS is off to water-based activities, DD is off doing work experience so it was supposed to be just me and the sunshine. But no, I love my DD so much that I am indoors and glued to the laptop, trying to keep the internet connection active so that I don't lose my place in a queue for something I have no chance of getting at all. But I least I can look DD in the eye and say I TRIED.

Portia - have a cold shower!

Mmmm - not sure how I feel about Connie the caterpillar - I would have called her Celia to go with Cecil

Portia - is Aidan returning to our screens soon? I could really do with a Poldark fix

I think your caterpillars sound more upmarket, shagged - a bit elitist, if you don't mind me saying so.

Bettercallsaul1 · 04/08/2016 13:26

Now, it's funny you should mention eating insects, toadgirl - someone was saying on the telly a couple of nights ago that people would be quite prepared to eat them if they were cheap and marketed properly. They would get over the existing repulsion. I find this hard to believe, don't you?

I've read about that. Some cultures do eat a lot of insects and grubs. They provide low-fat protein. I think it would be hard for me to overcome the thought I was eating insects but then if I was truly hungry, I suppose I would have to get over it.

I read once about a film (was the the Great Escape) where a guy (was it Steve McQueen) was in a tough prison and he wouldn't eat his gruel or whatever because it had cockroaches in it. He'd keep throwing it away. Until, of course, true hunger set in and not only did he eat the gruel, he actively sought cockroaches to eat.

Still not sure I could, but maybe given time...?

PortiaCastis · 04/08/2016 13:33

shagged I have just sent Aidan a text and he replied "Portia babe I'm back on screen on the 4th of September. See you later sexy."

Bettercallsaul1 · 04/08/2016 13:39

I applaud you, Vanilla! Greater love hath no mother than this: that she sits with her phone clapped to her ear all day to get her daughter Harry Potter tickets.

VanillaSugar · 04/08/2016 13:45

Thank you! 28523...

It's sods law that my booking window will open just as I am out picking up DS from the windsurfing lake...

Pedantry in our household today:-

I mentioned to DH that he'd better eat one of the rolls he bought yesterday and I had already eaten the lion's share.

He pointed out that I could not possibly have done this, as they were, in fact, tiger rolls Wink

Bettercallsaul1 · 04/08/2016 14:30

toadgirl - I have just looked at those photos! Oh, my God - the Waxworm Tacos and the plate of Bamboo worms! At least in the other dishes, the bugs were decently hidden! Envy

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/08/2016 14:38

I read a book about the Bangkok Hilton once and the prisoners are bugs because there was no protein in their diet. The ones that didn't got very sick.

Bettercallsaul1 · 04/08/2016 14:57

Yes, apparently they're very high in protein... But, honestly, wouldn't you rather just die?! Envy

The only bug I will ever eat is a Colin the Caterpillar cake.

Bettercallsaul1 · 04/08/2016 15:03
