Ok, we'll move on, Vanilla. Don't want to make things worse. You'll face it when you're ready. But remember that help is always available

Bettercallsaul1 · 03/08/2016 18:33

My God - we're at 502 posts! Wine all round! Not you, Vanilla

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/08/2016 18:35

Halfway! I can't believe it! We're very dedicated to the cause.

Bettercallsaul1 · 03/08/2016 18:40

You don't need many - just a few stalwarts, Mrs TP. It's all downhill from here!

PortiaCastis · 03/08/2016 18:43

Update from Portia Poldark
Hi have read your posts and thank you
Things are much better today and I have been out shopping and for lunch with dd. Purchased some Aidan friendly undies and a nice top for myself and we got some ass squeezing skinny jeans for dd + new school bag and a couple of tops for her.
The problems from last night are being discussed, they started because dd said she only wanted to apply to one uni which is the same one as her bf is hoping to go to subject to A level results
This morning dd woke me up with a cup of coffee and said sorry. That's good enough for me and we'll work things out in a hopefully calm manner.
Sorry a couple of you have had rotten childhoods. I was the opposite and was/ am close to Mum. Dad died not long after I got married he was only 56 so I still miss him
OTOH dh showed his true colours after marriage and became a violent alcoholic. I left him and am now divorced. I worry because dd saw a lot of his violence towards me and it must have affected her. If you have seen my thread about Grans you'll see how she dismissed him from our family
Anyway enough about me hope you are all ok and I'll be back onlkne later on.
Thanks again for your sensible posts I hope this all makes sense

Bettercallsaul1 · 03/08/2016 18:49

I'm glad things have calmed down again today, Portia. It sounds like a lovely shopping trip with your DD. Come and join us again when you're ready.

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/08/2016 18:54

That Uni bit when they have boyfriends is tough. Applying to more than one just gives her insurance. She doesn't actually have to go it she doesn't want to...

VanillaSugar · 03/08/2016 19:00

waves at Portia who is being very sensible. DD's boyfriend has applied to the uni next door to DD's chosen uni..... but I don't think that they'll still be together by Christmas #awkward!

Panic over. I've found a jar of Spanish Mojo in the fridge. That's got enough garlic for Austen Powers himself.

Bettercallsaul1 · 03/08/2016 19:52

Ah, so you had a stash jar hidden away all the time, did you? Lucky you remembered where it was.

VanillaSugar · 03/08/2016 20:42

It's actually a garlic/oil /pimento paste thing. Like a very garlicky red peppery spicy mayonnaise. I found it in a castle in Wales. It's very nice!

PortiaCastis · 03/08/2016 21:04

Vanilla thanks for saying I'm being sensible. Clearly you have a stash in your cupboard so can I have some

MrsTP yes I agree with you, thing is the bf will be off to uni in Sept/Oct anyway but if he gets the place he it's not too far away. I would love dd to go there as it's an RG uni. Realistically she has to have an insurance choice as you say. Waiting for her results for Year 12 so she's on tenterhooks.
Anyway they've gone pokemon hunting so it's nice and quiet at the moment.
BettercallSaul1 thank you for your posts.
I'm going for a soak in the bath now
Aidan is running the water Wink

toadgirl · 03/08/2016 22:02

Portia

Glad things are better for you today.

I worry because dd saw a lot of his violence towards me and it must have affected her

She will also be aware of how strong you are and what you've done to protect her from that by leaving, difficult though it must have been. Take comfort from that.

If you have seen my thread about Grans you'll see how she dismissed him from our family

You and DD have some great genes from Gran - they'll stand you in good stead, I'm sure Smile

VanillaSugar · 03/08/2016 22:29

Oh, it's a stressful time! The only thing I've learnt through this process is to go with the flow and see what happens. DD wanted to do Neurology but she didn't get an A for Biology at AS do she changed her course completely for the actual UCAS application. She also wanted to study at a top London uni. This time last year I thought she didn't have a hope in Hell, but I just said to her "Keep applying until someone else tells you No. So, she applies, got through the first and second stage, she was offered a place and now we're just waiting for someone else to tell her whether she can go or not.

Go with the flow Portia with your DD. She should put down 5 choices anyway and those choices will gradually whittle themselves down over the next 12 months.

Thought I would add these lyrics to the thread as they are a brilliant life observation except for the drugs reference.

Passenger – The Wrong Direction Lyrics

When I was a kid the things I did were hidden under the grid
Young and naive I never believed that love could be so well hid
With regret I'm willing to bet and say the older you get
It gets harder to forgive and harder to forget
It gets under your shirt like a dagger at work
The first cut is the deepest but the rest still flipping hurt
You build your heart of plastic
Get cynical and sarcastic
And end up in the corner on your own

'Cause I'd love to feel love but I can't stand the rejection
I hide behind my jokes as a form of protection
I thought I was close but under further inspection
It seems I've been running in the wrong direction oh no

So what's the point in getting your hopes up
When all you're ever getting is choked up
When you're coked up
And can't remember the reason why you broke up
You call her in the morning
When you're coming down and falling like an old man on the side of the road
'Cause when you're apart you don't want to mingle
When you're together you want to be single
Ever the chase to taste the kiss of bliss
That made your heart tingle
How much greener the grass is
With those rose tinted glasses
But the butterflies they flutter by and leave us on our arses

'Cause I'd love to feel love but I can't stand the rejection
I hide behind my jokes as a form of protection
I thought I was close but under further inspection
It seems I've been running in the wrong direction
There's fish in the sea for me to make a selection
I'd jump in if it wasn't for my ear infection
Cause all I want to do is try to make a connection
It seems I've been running in the wrong direction oh oh

PortiaCastis · 03/08/2016 22:41

Yes Vanilla I think when she goes back and is in year 13 she'll realise. We've agreed not to speak about uni for a week.
toadgirl thank you Flowers

Bettercallsaul1 · 03/08/2016 23:36

Portia - I don't like to seem critical but you do realise that, if you had just posted the stanzas to that song separately, you could have added another four posts to this thread! Grin

VanillaSugar · 03/08/2016 23:37

It will all come out in the wash....

Anyway, the strangest thing has happened. I filled up my water bottle from the fridge so that I would have some water for the morning, then wiped down the water dispense bit and then started to go upstairs in the dark. Then.. I saw that the garden was completely floodlit. We've lived here 2 years and I didn't even know we HAD floodlights, let alone where the switch was. There's no light switch in the bedroom so it couldn't have been DH turning it on by accident. There's nothing in the kitchen either, that I know of. Anyway, the light was so bright that I knew I wouldn't be able to go to sleep with the light still shining so I was perplexed, I tell you.

So I retraced my steps, wiped down the water dispenser bit again and.... the light went off. How did this happen? The fridge is quite new, we only installed it in March...

Vampires??? It's because I've run out of garlic, isn't it?

I would suspect a UFO myself.

VanillaSugar · 03/08/2016 23:44

The "ask the person below you a question" thread got to 1004 before it was closed. How did that happen??

How do you feel about a trip to Mars? You'd escape the Apocalypse

VanillaSugar · 03/08/2016 23:44

Anyway, off to bed. Night!

VanillaSugar · 03/08/2016 23:45

I'd rather go to the Mars factory than Cadbury World...

Bettercallsaul1 · 03/08/2016 23:46

Should we do that? We haven't had a game for several pages. I didn't see that thread - was it recent?

Bettercallsaul1 · 03/08/2016 23:48

We can ponder it tomorrow.
