AIBU?

To feel annoyed at DH showering twice a day

Apparently he needs one in the morning to feel fresh before work and one in the evening after being at work all day - this one I understand but surely after showering the night before and just sleeping there is no need for one in the morning? AIBU?

Showering at a gym or pool isn't adding to our bills either. I'm talking about showering at home.

My comment was in reference to MrsBadger77 saying "No way would I let DH have two showers everyday.", OP.

It's inconsiderate actually if he's waking early and disturbing everyone with the shower. Could he not just have a wash in the basin or something?

Quite right insanedame

And yes to me bitterarsenic the scenario of showering before and after a swim and then again at home is a bit like shower overkill to me.

I guess I don't sweat as much as all that!!

OP you need to figure out why this bothers you.
With low flow shower heads, excess water consumption really need not be an issue.
A quick morning shower solves bed head hair and a shower after work is reasonable.

Ah, ok. I agree with you on that - I would never 'not let him', he is an adult in his own house and works to pay the bills so not my right to not let him do anything!

I was dripping overnight the other night, it was unbelievably hot so I think it's ok to shower in the morning. I'd be stinky after work, too, having had to go via the stables to sort out the horse.

OP in terms of the bills, what would you think if he took up a new hobby? How much does one extra shower per day cost? How does it compare to any regular expenditure you have?

If you are struggling for money then that's one thing but if not, I'm wondering how much the cost can really be an issue.

Also if a shower wakes him up and makes him feel nice why not? Suppose he spent £40 a month on a massage, would you mind that? I find my showers very lovely and I don't spend money on fancy face cream etc so just trying to think of how he may off set it

I think at heart you just think it's weird but I don't see why. You can sweat a fair bit at night.

No way would I let DH have two showers everyday - how can you say that MrsBadger - if my DH dictated to me how many showers or baths I could have I would show him the door.

Op - be grateful your DH washes, perhaps he is hinting that you aren't showering enough? My friend lives with a man who thinks one shower a week is more than enough. Yuck.

I can't bear to get into bed at night without a bath or shower and though I don't always shower in the morning, it definately makes me feel fresher and cleaner if I do.

On days I don't cycle/gym I shower in the morning and bath at night.
I find it very odd it others don't.
So you would shower in the morning and then go all day and put clean nightwear on a sweaty body before bed ????

"Well he isn't actually dirty in the morning, he hasn't done anything other than sleep!"
A morning shower really helps to wake me up.

"We have a very noisy power shower so the morning shower always wakes up the kids."
That to me is the only problem. In what way is it noisy, and is there anything that can be done to reduce the noise? Our tank is insulated for sound as much as for heat, ditto pipework.

I reuse clothes quite a lot too - I've don't have a clean nightshirt every night and just have a bath or shower nearly every night - super grim.

Give all the ultra hygienic people proper nightmares 😄

For context I would have cycled 8 miles to the pool and cycled 8 miles home after work.

Im literally in and out in a couple of minutes

I don't have nightmares but I often have to hold my breath Grin
Ugh smelly people - get in the bloody shower !

I bath in the evening before bed - I'm not dirty in the morning and don't have time anyway as I have to moisturise after washing, which makes my clothes sticky/greasy if I put them straight on after moisturiser.

The shower is weird - it runs off a loud motor in the airing cupboard on the landing. DH loves it as gives a nice powerful shower.

YANBU op. I have the same issue with my DH. He does gym or karate 4 nights a week. Gets in at 10.30pm, showers for 20 BLOODY MINS. goes to bed at 11.45. Gets up at 6am and showers for ANOTHER 20 BLOODY MINS. Why? All he's done is sleep for 6 hours between cool cotton sheets in a cool bedroom wearing cool t-shirt. We are on a meter and live in the driest part of the UK.

i agree, people that don't wash regularly are kidding themesleves if they think they don't smell.

If it wakes up the kids, I can completely understand why you are annoyed. Therefore yanbu. Could you change your shower so it's not noisy?

DH has 2 showers a day. He gets up at 5:20am to fit his morning shower in. I don't even know he's done it!

DS1 has 3 most days, sometimes he has had 4. He's always exercising or out running, I'd rather that than him stinking.

timeforabrewnow · 23/07/2016 21:56

Haha - I think I need to do a proper workout in order to get smelly in the place.

Respect to you for cycling 8 miles there and back - that would possibly kill me 😬

Maybe your DH wishes you'd stop having a bath every evening if he's also worried about the water meter? Wink

Agree if you are exercising then you need more but morning and evening is not excessive.
I love a nice shower and put on PJS - really people are at work all day and they go to bed without a shower Shock ick
Face, Fanny, Bum,Pits and Feet= twice daily shower.

A bath once a week is more than sufficient, next thing he will be changing his underpants more than once a month, is he gay?
