AIBU?

To feel annoyed at DH showering twice a day

Apparently he needs one in the morning to feel fresh before work and one in the evening after being at work all day - this one I understand but surely after showering the night before and just sleeping there is no need for one in the morning? AIBU?

Im with you op. There's no need for 2/3 showers/baths a day. Obscene waste of water especially if the while family is at it.

If the worst thing you have to worry about is hubby being too clean, you've led a charmed life.

I don't think he needs a nice long wank if only1scoop is in there with him TBH! Grin

I need a shower in the morning to feel clean. If you gave me a choice between an extra half hour in bed with breakfast served up, and having a shower, I would pick shower. Feel manky all day otherwise. If my partner told me I shouldn't shower twice a day because they felt they didn't feel they need to, I'd be fecked off. If you are not struggling to pay water and electricity bill, let him enjoy them. If the shower is waking up family members, maybe he could change the order of his morning - breakfast first or whatever - to give them a bit more rest?

YABU and petty. A shower in the morning and one at night is perfectly normal. Besides that he's an adult and it's none of your business. You must be such fun to live with.

Get a plumber in to sort the noise

Perhaps he's having a nice long wank while he's in there?

If the only problem is the noisy pump, then deal with that. Evening and morning showers are completely reasonable.

I've had 3 showers a day some days - quick one when I get up, shower and hair wash after working in the garden and getting dirty, and another in the evening after cleaning the house. Quicker / more environmentally sensitive to wash me than to wash muddy /sweaty bedding every day.

And I always have to shower in the morning if I've had sex during the night - I'd be surprised if anyone was comfortable with not showering /bathing /washing afterwards.

YABU, I think it's a personal thing. If I've been to a sports class, I've been known to shower 3 times in a day. I think I'd rather have an overly clean DP than the opposite. No right or wrong here

I really need a shower in the morning to start the day, feel icky all day if I don't. I don't shower at night, but dh does after work as he has a physical job and feels better after it.

Those saying maybe DH wants me to shower more - we have an honest marriage and communicate well so if that were the case he would just tell me

I never said I don't let him - I've not said a word to him about it annoying me Hmm

Why with your honest marriage can you not discuss this with him and put your heads together to find a solution.

The only problem I can see is the noisy power shower, get a plumber in to have a look and see what can be done.

We nearly always shower twice a day in our house - we have a new bathroom and a fab new shower, it's been boiling and we love being clean and fresh - why wouldn't you?

How weird to begrudge a lovely clean husband....

We moved house 3 years ago from a house with a combi boiler to a house with an immersion heater and electric shower. We don't use the immersion heater so only have hot water in the winter when the heating is on. Our electric bill went through the roof just because of the electric shower, and that's two of us having one shower a day each.

it's odd that on these threads people are unable to accept that their personal standards are not the absolute, universal rule

Indeed. And personally the smells that bother me are strong, artificial perfumes and bad breath. The smell of a bit of body sweat doesn't cause me an issue. Still, just as we all smell different, presumably we're all bothered by different smells!

It's not true that everyone would smell without a daily shower. I would - unfortunately I'm quite a sweaty person. .. But my husband is a weirdly unsweaty person. He just never smells. He still bathes every day - but even on the odd occasion when he hasn't (due to odd circumstances,he still smells fine.

Not everyone is the same! That seems pretty self-evident, but it's odd that on these threads people are unable to accept that their personal standards are not the absolute, universal rule.

Think yourself lucky. Dh hardly showers, and he has a physically demanding job. Gets a bit ripe sometimes! Still adore him though Smile

a two-minute shower gets people clean and even with a power shower, isn't excessive on the resources.

The MN 20 minute shower is excessive but most people don't do that.

I often shower twice a day, once before work and once just before bed as the warmth of the shower helps me drop off to sleep

rhoda exactly! We are a family of 4 and our monthly water bill is £35 a month. And I try to be conservative with water. How are people affording their bills ...gas, electricity, water and council tax alone is about £350 a month for us and that's unavoidable living costs. Maybe it cheap elsewhere. We are in the south. I am so old I can remember life before showers - it was just those funny attachments on bath taps so you could wash your hair. Which means I've never got in the habit of showering - other than when using shampoo every 3 or 4 days.. To me, it;s what you do when you're in an incredible rush. Whereas I'm a habitual bather.

Dh and ds definitely shower for pleasure, I shower to get clean then out. They can easily shower for 20+ minutes each but I'm in and out .

Yes. YABU to be annoyed about this. And all this talk about whether it's necessary or not, who the hell cares? Maybe he simply likes having a shower first thing and last thing! Just because you don't is why you're annoyed. But he is a separate person from you, he is different, he is doing something he likes/wants to do which doesn't harm you or anyone else. How many things do you, or we all do, that aren't necessary? if we all lived our lives by necessity alone, what a miserable existence that would be. Maybe the showers give him pleasure. Why begrudge him that?

Report
daisychain01 · 24/07/2016 10:09

Well he isn't actually dirty in the morning, he hasn't done anything other than sleep!

Don't you realise how much people sweat at night? Esp. men.

If it makes him feel comfortable, and it cost about 20p in water, do you really begrudge him that?

Report
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/07/2016 10:00

Power showers are really noisy, that's the only reason it would annoy me.
