To feel annoyed at DH showering twice a day

Apparently he needs one in the morning to feel fresh before work and one in the evening after being at work all day - this one I understand but surely after showering the night before and just sleeping there is no need for one in the morning? AIBU?

Your complaint seems a bit controlling.

Showers are delightful and clean people are lovely to be around.

Ditsy4 · 23/07/2016 21:07

Had three yesterday.
Crikey you would have reason to complain if he wasn't showering. Phew!
I had one on Wednesday night and in the morning before work because I felt sweaty as I had to shut the window because the night before the tractors had kept me awake for hours in the middle of the night. Then had another when I came home from work because I was going out. Then had another 5 minute one when I came home at 2 because I was hot. Had another in the morning when I got up.

Mrsbadger77 · 23/07/2016 21:08

No way would I let DH have two showers everyday. We're on a water meter and the bill would be astronomical. And we should all be saving , not wasting water.

bitemyarsenic · 23/07/2016 21:08

FGS how long is he showering for ?
Im in and out in under 2-3 minutes.
If he is showering for 20 minutes then I don't think he is doing it to just to get clean ... grin]

Sadik · 23/07/2016 21:10

"Well he isn't actually dirty in the morning, he hasn't done anything other than sleep!"
This is clearly the problem, rather than the number of showers. . . . Wink

justdontevenfuckingstart · 23/07/2016 21:10

There really are more important things to worry about. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Granted 2 of mine are at the gym but you wouldn't let him - WTAF!

Peridotisinvalid · 23/07/2016 21:10

The thought has just popped in to my head that the OP's DH might wish she had two showers a day too.

Incidentally, I have a bath every day and my husband and daughter have showers (a long shower in my daughter's case). Our water bills have plummeted since we got a water meter installed. I doubt that a man having two showers a day would make much difference to the bill.

InsaneDame · 23/07/2016 21:12

Sadik, love your comment!

If the genders were reversed I'm sure people wouldn't hesitate to define that as abusive.

InsaneDame · 23/07/2016 21:14

I certainly don't need two showers a day, and couldn't even if I wanted to as suffer from very dry skin.

YABU

Wish my DH would, he does nighttime only as he likes to go to bed clean (great), but I think you can tell in the daytime that he hasn't showered in the morning on waking.

HostOfDaffodils · 23/07/2016 21:17

Very lengthy showers can be annoying if other people want to get in the bathroom.

In the old days - I remember them - a person might stand at a basin and wash themselves with a flannel- concentrating mostly on sweatier areas. It's pretty quick and uses very little water.

I sometimes do this in the morning.

AppleJac · 23/07/2016 21:19

I think you have it good.

Many men and women are soap dodgers and to me that is something to moan about!

Peridotisinvalid · 23/07/2016 21:20

I can't get my head round the idea of not "letting" a spouse do something! Good grief! Is it not a relationship between equals? As a PP said, imagine a man saying that he wouldn't let his wife have two showers! Shock

bitemyarsenic · 23/07/2016 21:21

I never understand the "dry skin" thing - I have very dry skin which is now lovely and supple as I shower several times daily and use a lovely moisturising shower cream ( Jason) and then apply the body cream.
No dry skin or flakiness and I don't stink either

timeforabrewnow · 23/07/2016 21:21

FFS - so many people having 2 or 3 showers a day??

Utterly ludicrous. Surely once a day or every other day in winter is more than adequate.

OP you are not being unreasonable. A shower before bed is fine and your DH doesn't need to wake up the kids in the morning with his extra showering activities!

Gabilan · 23/07/2016 21:25

I'd be a bit worried about electricity and water usage but otherwise it wouldn't bother me at all. And yes, it's nicer to be clean.

Sparklingbrook · 23/07/2016 21:28

I always do this. Shower in the morning so clean for the day then shower before bed to wash the day off. Especially in this weather.

We aren't on a water meter as we have more people than bedrooms.

bitemyarsenic · 23/07/2016 21:30

I cycle everywhere - Im sweaty as hell when I reach the pool.
Would you like me to get into the pool all sweaty?
That's grim -I take a 2 minute shower to rinse the sweat off before I get in- its a requirement before you use the pool.
After I rinse off the chlorine and wash my hair- 2-3 minutes tops.
Cycle home after work- quick shower again 2-3 minutes as Im sweaty.
How is that ludicrous its basic hygiene !

EarthboundMisfit · 23/07/2016 21:30

I do this regularly.

InsaneDame · 23/07/2016 21:31

I never said I don't let him - I've not said a word to him about it annoying me and I wouldn't ever stop him. The best thing for my dry, cracked, sore skin is not to get it wet more than once a day/every other day.

I don't understand why we have to 'save water'. Rain isI plentiful in the UK

InsaneDame · 23/07/2016 21:33

And I already said if he was exercising/cycling etc then of course it would make more sense. Bit he isn't. He showers, goes to bed, wakes up, showers again.... Just seems pointless to me.

OP posts:
OohMavis · 23/07/2016 21:33

It's unnecessary and wasteful. How smelly can you get in 7-8 hours, lying asleep (presumably cool enough so you're not drenched in sweat) in clean clothes? Confused
