Ooo yes this DOES sound like a sly survey

avamiah · 20/07/2016 00:58

I hate the smell of smoke, as I grew up with my mum and dad smoking about 40 a day and I'm 44 so when I was a kid you could smoke anywhere.
It was horrible and I have terrible memories of being on holiday with my mum and dad when I was about 7 and sharing a room with them and I will always remember covering my head with a blanket as they were smoking in the room.
My mum is 80 soon and had breast cancer in 2000, but still smokes.
In my opinion it is a terrible addiction and far worse than many drugs as it is easy to buy cigarettes and cheap and not illegal .

PlumDogMillionaire · 20/07/2016 00:58

no official survey I'm afraid... Just my mental one

JaceLancs · 20/07/2016 01:00

Started at 18, gave up at 40 am now early 50s
No disposable income - but that doesn't mean I'm a low earner either
I enjoy a drink, but don't abuse drugs or alcohol

PlumDogMillionaire · 20/07/2016 01:00

I'm pretty much here because i think I'm finally ready to listen to what i need to hear

Always skint. Smoked 15/20 a day for 21 years, 39, given in and bought a vaporiser but convinced myself I would always be a smoker (because I loved it). Now down to 4 a day and vaping in the evening. Never thought I'd give up, couldn't afford it but still liked the taste. I'm amazed at myself so far. Can't see me going back to full time smoking but still like the 4 I have per day. Hated vaping and vapers before but am coming round to the idea.

FastWindow · 20/07/2016 01:02

Do you smoke Plum?

lazybones77 · 20/07/2016 01:02

Still reeks of a survey though but I'm pleased with myself just now so I'll contribute.

FastWindow · 20/07/2016 01:05

Vapers, the new Vipers. All hail (cant do it myself) to bones

lazybones77 · 20/07/2016 01:05

Yes...I do like my alcohol but not enough to be too worried. Have used drugs in the distant past but never been addicted to them. I just like wine.

PlumDogMillionaire · 20/07/2016 01:06

I do, yes.

So what would you dirty smokers all spend the spare cash on if you could give them up

OP posts:
lazybones77 · 20/07/2016 01:07

Vapers/vipers all the same to me. Grin

FastWindow · 20/07/2016 01:09

plum what are your answers to your questions?

Your age, income , drug history?

lazybones77 · 20/07/2016 01:09

Doesn't seem like 'spare cash' to me Plum. It gets eaten up in some other way here. It was cash that didn't need to be spent before.

albapunk · 20/07/2016 01:11

Ex-Smoker.

I quit three years ago, have had the odd one since then and it's made me feel quite ill. I drink maybe 3 x a year and don't use or abuse drugs, although I have smoked weed and taken speed in the past, wouldn't now.

I'm on a low but comfortable enough income and live within my means as much as possible, definitely find alternative ways to spend what would have been cig money - clothes, make-up and other tat so not really better or worse off financially.

I have friends with children and nephews, would never ever smoke in front of them or around children in public when possible.

AdjustableWench · 20/07/2016 01:12

I stopped smoking three months ago. I started when I was 19 (idiot). I smoked 20-30 a day. I don't miss it at all because I'm using both patches and e-cigarettes. I love not feeling dependent on tobacco but I know I'm still dependent on nicotine. I've gained a stone but I'm actually happy enough with that.

Haven't abused any other substances though (except caffeine).

FastWindow · 20/07/2016 01:12

bones Grin

PlumDogMillionaire · 20/07/2016 01:14

I have answered already but 30, my earnings are mostly disposable and yes i have a history of what might be called 'heavy' drug use

OP posts:
PlumDogMillionaire · 20/07/2016 01:15

'spare cash' in more of a motivational sense, like 'I am going to forgo a packet of straights for a bunch of flowers today'

OP posts:
lazybones77 · 20/07/2016 01:16

Try a vaporiser Plum. You never know. You might be ok with that. I didn't ever think I would but, as I say, I'm amazed at the difference. My 2 DS are so happy with me just now. They've been on at me for years to stop.

SapphireSeptember · 20/07/2016 01:17

Never smoked, everyone else in my immediate family does and I hate it. Since I left home being around smokers makes me very ill, (coughing, can't breathe, sore throat and sneezing,) which makes me think I've developed an allergy. This might sound awful, but I think the sooner it's banned the better because it kills so many people, and because nicotine is so addictive I can see how hard it is to give up. Sad As for drinking and drugs, never drank much until I gave up alcohol for religious reasons (I think I've been drunk twice in my life, and not the sicky, falling over, hangover in the morning type of drunk either.) I've also never taken any illegal drugs. As for disposal income, all my spare money gets spent on nail polish and lipstick, those are my fun things.

Anyone up thread who's given up, well done you! Anyone who's thinking about it, you can do it!

Maz2444466 · 20/07/2016 01:18

Used to smoke but about ten years ago before DC. Got awful coughing fits and was just not enjoying it anymore, was lucky that the gum really worked for me.

lazybones77 · 20/07/2016 01:18

I don't do the spare cash thing because I'm not seeing a difference yet but I'm crap with money so spend when I have it. We've definitely been able to do more normal family things since I've kind of stopped but we've got a little more money just now anyway.

PlumDogMillionaire · 20/07/2016 01:18

yes to lipstick! Makes me feel so glam and feels like a lovely treat to swap cigs for

FastWindow · 20/07/2016 01:19

Plum, what is your disposable income?

Do you know what the question implies?

'Mostly' isn't an answer.
