WWYD car parked on our drive

Marsaday · 19/07/2016 21:48

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

I don't know why people are saying Anthony Head is so lovely, when he goes round parking on people's drives without permission. Confused

mummyB1 · 23/07/2016 19:45

Thumbs up for fixing your washing machine OP! Star
You might want to check the brushes if it stops mid-cycle. Local handyman replaced the ones in my washing machine for £60, saved having to buy a new machine.
I wonder, if you rang your insurance company and claimed this car has scratched yours, would you get to find out the driver's name? Grin
Wink

facepalming · 25/07/2016 10:29

Is it still there OP?!

Marysunshine · 25/07/2016 11:07

Yes - gripping stuff - we need to know the outcome

LagunaBubbles · 25/07/2016 11:42

Meh. People are too possessive. So you can't park on your drive for a few hours. Who cares?! It's not going to be there for days.

Fab! My oven has broken and I have a few cakes to make, PM your address and I will come and use yours, its not like you are the possessive sort is it!

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 25/07/2016 14:39

You made me laugh Laguna I've got a picture in my mind's eye now of me coming home and finding people picnicking in my garden because it's nicer or sunnier than their own Grin Hmm

Marysunshine · 25/07/2016 16:03

Yes - where does it end if you can't control what you pay for - squatting I guess. We'd all love to come home to folks taking over our homes when we pop out to work!

Memoires · 25/07/2016 17:01

Yes! MarySunshine, I want to grow some veg but have nowhere to plant them. I'll just pop some pots in your yard....

chocolateworshipper · 25/07/2016 17:31

My Sky box is broken. Hmmmm, whose sofa should I sit on for a few hours ...

StrangeLookingParasite · 25/07/2016 19:52

I love how this thread has morphed! OP it might get classics!!!

Since we've gone completely off-topic, I may as well derail it some more by asking how DOES a thread become a classic?

And what does 'gaslighting' mean? I've seen that on a couple of other threads, I think they were relationship-type threads.

wowfudge · 26/07/2016 09:28

Gas lighting is from the film Gaslight. The husband is psychologically torturing his wife to control her and convince her she's going mad by moving things and telling her she was mistaken as to their location or saying her recollection of conversations is wrong. He is so convincing that she thinks she is going mad.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/07/2016 09:35

I think (but not sure) that he gradually turns the gas lights down and when she asks if it's dark in here he says no. She thinks she's imagining it as it gets darker and darker and thinks she's going mad

TheWitchesofIzalith · 26/07/2016 09:56

Ah, I see!
Thanks both :-)

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 26/07/2016 14:35

Witches you nominate threads for Classics by pressing the report button and choosing other reason, not spam obviously, then in the comments say you nominate the thread for Classics with a brief explanation as to why.
MNHQ then consider.

facepalming · 26/07/2016 17:28

does anyone know if the car is still there and whos it was?!

MrsWembley · 26/07/2016 22:41
