WWYD car parked on our drive

Marsaday · 19/07/2016 21:48

Some complete asshat has left their car parked on our drive.

It has been there at least since my OH got home at 4.30, but could have been there all day.
Have phoned 101 and police say not reported stolen but they won't do anything as the car is on private land and not blocking us in. It's not a car that we recognise as belonging to neighbours and we're not near a hospital, station, airport etc.
We have currently parked across the drive preventing said car from leaving and left our phone number on the window. However, as we have a baby and a toddler our phones are on silent at night.
WIBU to leave the car blocked in until morning?
Or how can we get the car moved?

Awesome pic britespark!
So sorry for the derail OP but Anthony Head is an imporatnt MN issue.
I so want a I Want Head badge sgt and BOOP.

TestCardF · 22/07/2016 22:41

So to derail the derailment (if that makes sense!) but I never understand these threads. Have I got this right? A random person you have no connection to whatsoever comes along in their car and parks it on your driveway. I could understand this if you were in a built up inner city area. But in the suburbs not near any notable amenities. Wtf?

TestCardF · 22/07/2016 22:42

By the way, I completely believe you, I'm not saying your post is false. I just find it so bizarre!

chocolateworshipper · 22/07/2016 22:49

I may start a new thread entitled "AIBU to be upset that I have never met Anthony Head OR had a random stranger park on my drive?"

Sad
TheWitchesofIzalith · 22/07/2016 22:50

Testcard
Basically yes, that's what happened to the OP. The car was then moved onto the pavement the next day during the 15 minutes that OP was out. So we are all waiting with baited breath to find out who mystery car owner is because we have totally over invested in the thread

SparkleSoiree · 22/07/2016 22:55

I think it must be a visitor to a neighbour's house. It's like they moved the car as soon as they saw the OP leave the house. They waited probably..,,

re: Sacha Baron-Cohen in Covent Garden, he may have been looking for a £50 candle for all I know. But since he was going into the Doctor Marten shop, I think it unlikely.
He probably arranged to meet Anthony Head afterwards for A coffee.
Nescafé, of course.
Buying DMs could be classed as dirty, depends what he wanted to do with them! (After reading the 'Husband's secret stash' thread nothing would surprise me)

nickelbabe · 22/07/2016 23:03

Highway code:
You must not park
in front of an entrance to a property

Which you presume to mean someone else's property

And also
www.safermotoring.co.uk/parking-near-private-driveway-what-law.html

It is NOT an offence to block the twat in.

TheWitchesofIzalith · 22/07/2016 23:04

I'm jealous of the poster who encountered Alan Rickman and his beautiful voice in the department store. I have loved him from the moment, in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, that I heard him purr 'I will cut your heart out...with a spoon' Smile

MrsWembley · 22/07/2016 23:36

I almost bumped into John Torode in my local Waitrose once and nearly gave a Cusak sister a big smile there today thinking she was a mum from my DCs' school...

I'll keep a look-out for The Headster!

Btw, talking about being over-invested, does anyone know what happened to the safe in NZ?

MiddleClassProblem · 22/07/2016 23:40

TheWitchesofIzalith that is the weirdest sentence to have been turned on by

TheWitchesofIzalith · 23/07/2016 00:03

middleclassproblem I know [embarrassed]

It was not so much the content as the delivery. That beautiful, rich, velvety melted-chocolate voice....sigh.
The fact he strode around a lot in tall black boots also had something to do with my lust, I suspect. I was the same when I watched Sense and Sensibility. Alan Rickman in black boots crooning 'Give me an occupation, Miss Dashwood, or I shall run mad'

EBearhug · 23/07/2016 00:05

I have never met Anthony Head. Do I have to leave MN now?

I've not had anyone park on my drive, either. I don't have a drive.

MiddleClassProblem · 23/07/2016 00:05

Men I boots are sexy, a la pirates, musketeers etc.

It's a wonder men don't factor it in to modern day fashion (a derailment too far)

nickelbabe · 23/07/2016 00:23

It took aa fucking hour and a half to rtft only to find i've interrupted an Anthony Head derailathon.
I've never met him.
I would love though.

ChameleonCircuit · 23/07/2016 00:29

Never met AH (much to my disgust) but I once saw Vic Reeves and his wife in the Victoria Quarter, I've been backstage at a Zodiac Mindwarp gig, and had a chat with Bill Nelson. I'm all about the A-listers, me, y'know. 😜 No-one has ever dared park on my drive though. Not knowing who this car belongs to is driving me potty!

TheWitchesofIzalith · 23/07/2016 00:45

That car has been there for three days now. Does this person not go anywhere?
I am imagining some sort of suburban, net curtain-twitching Mexican standoff now. OP, compelled to keep watch 24/7 in case sneaky car owner tries to leave without being caught and unmasked... and car owner, compelled to keep watch 24/7 for the moment OP is forced to break cover to obtain food/essentials and they can sprint to the car and drive off.

AcrossthePond55 · 23/07/2016 02:37

It's still there?

OP, do you live near an airport or rail station? I wonder if a neighbour 'volunteered' your street for a friend or relative to park on whilst their on vacation.

mummylove2monsters · 23/07/2016 09:04

Wow is it still there ?

TheWitchesofIzalith · 23/07/2016 09:47

Yup!
OP posted this update last night at 7.47PM:

The sodding car is still sitting on the street mocking me. Still no idea who owns it

MiddleClassProblem · 23/07/2016 10:06

I don't understand why people think it's stolen or abandoned if it moved from the drive to the kerb outside

TheWitchesofIzalith · 23/07/2016 10:14

Maybe not read the whole thread, middleclass, didn't see the OPs post saying it was moved while she was out?
Some people will only read the OP, and post a response to that without realising the thread has moved on somewhat in 30 pages!

MrsWembley · 23/07/2016 11:59

I don't have a box-set of Buffy! Oh lordy, what shall I do?

hollyisalovelyname · 23/07/2016 12:30

When you pay my mortgage / rent you can park in my drive.
No way would I have left them escape.
I would have taken air out of their tyres if I couldn't block them in.
It's the sheer nerve of them.
