I e never heard anyone say Armond?!

wineandcheeseplease · 19/07/2016 20:03

Almond here. Your way sounds odd to me!

redhat · 19/07/2016 20:03

um, you're wrong I'm afraid. But by no means the only one.

branofthemist · 19/07/2016 20:03

I have a friend who does it. I laugh every time.

I have no idea who is right. Wether you should or not. But after 34 years of never hearing the 'L' I makes me laugh.

RastafarianTargaryen · 19/07/2016 20:03

Almond sounds better than armond.

2nds · 19/07/2016 20:03

I'm with your DH

TheUnsullied · 19/07/2016 20:03

I've only ever heard the make believe people inside the TV say armond.

MaisieDotes · 19/07/2016 20:03

I say ahmond.

But apparently both are correct (silent l or pronounce l).

BrendaFurlong · 19/07/2016 20:04

Regional differences?
My DF says almond with the l sounded, and comes from the South West of England. I grew up in the Midlands and don't sound the l.

(I am also in a mixed marriage on the scone front.. we have learned to live with the difference!)

BombadierFritz · 19/07/2016 20:04

Armond?????

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 19/07/2016 20:04

Armond here

TheRealAdaLovelace · 19/07/2016 20:04

it's an arl-mnd
Are they saying AL-mond? that could be a bit odd.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 19/07/2016 20:04

I'm with your DH here. I pronounce the L.

myownprivateidaho · 19/07/2016 20:04

I would say armond. I think al-mond is the American and the Indian English pronunciation.

MyAmDeryCross · 19/07/2016 20:05

I say almond. Is it a geographical thing?

bloodyteenagers · 19/07/2016 20:05

If it was meant to sound armond there would be a r in the spelling. But there's not.

cbigs · 19/07/2016 20:05

Ah-mnd here too.

FlyingElbows · 19/07/2016 20:05

I say ah-mond
AhI-mond is irritating.
Ol-mond is supreme wankery. Grin

tibbawyrots · 19/07/2016 20:05

Ahrmund

OurBlanche · 19/07/2016 20:06

But Armand is a name, of an Anne Rice Vampire...

The almond is a nut...

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 19/07/2016 20:06

I say ahmond. There is no 'r' in almond and the 'l' is silent.

2nds · 19/07/2016 20:06

I've just looked it up on here and it seems that we are all wrong and it's a silent L like wtf? www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/pronunciation/english/almond

I'll still say almond though!

branofthemist · 19/07/2016 20:06

I would say ah-mond

Rather than aRmond

TheUnsullied · 19/07/2016 20:06

Not arl-mund, no...

It sounds more like ol-mund.

AlbusPercival · 19/07/2016 20:06

I'm an arlmond I'm sfraid
