more arl mund with the l at the back of the mouth

How the shit does one pronounce an L at the back of the mouth??? Confused

DeliciousIrony · 19/07/2016 20:23

Yes, the 'l' is silent.

I feel similarly appalled when I have heard my DP sporadically pronounce the 'l'.

Rrross1ges · 19/07/2016 20:24

well by that logic, we should all be saying morTgage and Green-witch

We all do. It's just you. I bet you say Worcester as "Wusster" or some freakery!

It is All-mund though.

Marcipex · 19/07/2016 20:25

Olmond, sorry if that's supreme wankery.

DeliciousIrony · 19/07/2016 20:26

'Ol-mund' reminds me of when you heard American TV shows where they say 'calm' as 'collm'

GerundTheBehemoth · 19/07/2016 20:26

My ex said al-mond. That's not the only reason why he's an ex though.

IrregularCommentary · 19/07/2016 20:27

Silent l all the way (midlands).

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 19/07/2016 20:28

Thank goodness for supermarkets.
You can just pick up a packet of ahlrmonds NUTS and say nothing.

Doobigetta · 19/07/2016 20:28

Ah-mund. Which sounds the same as ar-mund. He says al-mund or ol-mund, can't remember which, and I correct him. He also had to be trained out of "clem-AY-tiss" for "CLEM-a-tiss".

BeautyQueenFromMars · 19/07/2016 20:28

I say it both ways. Much the same as I pronounce 'scone' both ways. All bases covered that way.

BeautyQueenFromMars · 19/07/2016 20:29

Also say 'way' far too much, apparently Hmm

April241 · 19/07/2016 20:30

Scotland here - I say almond...and i've just sat in the living room the last few minutes saying it out loud! OH also says almond, i've never heard it with an R.

Rrross1ges I hate the word worchester...I don't even try to say it >

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/07/2016 20:32

Al-mund here. Had to say it out loud to check, though Blush

ghostyslovesheep · 19/07/2016 20:33

Ol - mond here - Merseyside

enjoyingscience · 19/07/2016 20:35

Never, ever met anyone call it an al-mond. This is eye opening.

I'm going to conduct a survey in the office tomorrow.

blueskyinmarch · 19/07/2016 20:36

Amummyatlast · 19/07/2016 20:38

DH is the only person I've ever heard pronounce the L.

I was taught that it's silent, like salmon.

Hmm Now wondering if there are people out there who pronounce the L in salmon...

Irontheshirts · 19/07/2016 20:40

The L isn't silent the al make an ar sound as in calf half. Phonics :)

Ihatechoosingnames · 19/07/2016 20:41

Al-mund. Your DH is correct Wink

mallorcanmummy · 19/07/2016 20:41

Arh-mond here! Silent L. My DM says Arl-mond.

VertiginousOust · 19/07/2016 20:42
