I'm not rich, far from it, minimum wage 25hours a week
Always wanted a radley picture bag but can't really afford it
Saw it reduced, £229 to £123
Decided to break the bank and buy it, 3 days after it arrives it was reduced to £113 grrrrr
Rang customer services they said they can't refund the difference but I can reorder and return, so I did
Now it's down to £103
Shall I reorder and return again??!! This is getting silly, but I paid on my credit card and every £10 off helps!!
I've got the balance down to £40so if I do it again I'll only owe £30 on my credit card
What would you do???!!!! Don't want to get black balled!!!

So people on minimum wage should buy nice things then, just cheap stuff and pay bills.

OP was talking about returning the bag as it had been reduced further, and I think she was trying to justify her actions by saying about her finances as she didn't know that this practice is very common, even if you have lots of money.

SuburbanRhonda · 19/07/2016 20:17

Some people have seen way too many families crippled by debt to join the throng encouraging the OP to buy something even she admits is an extravagance on her income.

Gymboree567 · 19/07/2016 20:23

But I can afford it, I could buy 80 of these bags if I wanted,
The question is, would you return it a second time to get £10 back?
Simple!

OP posts:
SuburbanRhonda · 19/07/2016 20:27

OP, if you hadn't posted anything about your income and about how you thought the bag was an extravagance on your income, I wouldn't even have posted on this thread.

limitedperiodonly · 19/07/2016 20:29

I pay my credit card off in full every time I use it. It's a tool and much more convenient and sensible than carrying wodges of cash.

I also use my debit card and am aware of how much money is in my current account and how much is going out in standing orders without having to check more than once a week.

OP thinks the handbag is a splurge but she hasn't said that she splurges frequently or can't pay her bills. She just wants to know if we think the price is going to come down further.

I don't know because I don't buy things like that. But I frequently play chicken with the supermarket over reduced food. Should I buy the £8 fillet steak now at £5 or should I wait until the final reduction to £2.50 and chance someone else snapping it up? It's a harmless hobby that makes me happy.

Gymboree567 · 19/07/2016 20:31

I only put it because some people might think it was just stingy to try and get your tenner back
Ten pound is nothing to some people
A tenners a tenner to me, it's 2 meals in wetherspoons, it's parking and ice creams at the beach,
Look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves, that's how I afford nice things
So would you return again? Or would you just be slightly miffed and forget about it? Lol

I am an avid bargain hunter and always do this, I also make sure I get free home delivery from Next, and pick up stuff C + C to avoid postage. It's the little amounts that add up.

April241 · 19/07/2016 20:45

I wouldn't send it back but only because i'd want to use the bag right away! I love buying bags and if you can afford it then why not. I've bought two brand new designer bags but now I tend to buy bags second hand on eBay - i've had some brilliant bargains on there.

I'd agree with a pp, send it back a final time if you want to save the tenner but don't look on the site anymore and unsub from the emails. No point in buying a lovely bag if you never get to use it! ;)

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 19/07/2016 20:46

I would try appealing to their better nature along the lines of the PP who said save the planet the delivery / return fuel and refund the difference. if that doesn't work return and rebuy.

Gymboree567 · 19/07/2016 20:48

It's 28 day returns so have time to receive another before returning
I'm still undecided!
I'm edging toward forget about it, but next time there's a sale wait until the last minute to order x

OP posts:
Gymboree567 · 19/07/2016 20:49

I did try customer services first but they said I would have to return and re order, I thought it would be easier for them to refund but they wouldn't or couldn't do it

OP posts:
Ilovemygsd · 19/07/2016 20:53

I'd do it, in a heart beat. Any saving is good! I was fuming when I got a £400 tv cabinet and with in a week was half price. I wish I could of returned that

MiracletoCome · 19/07/2016 20:56

That £10 will nag you until you do it Grin

ailith · 19/07/2016 20:56

Wow. Can't believe anyone would actually go to all this trouble and hassle. Seems a bit dishonest too.

Gymboree567 · 19/07/2016 20:58

That would have annoyed me so bad! I want everything as cheap as possible
I can't believe people pay full price for brands like cath kidston, radley, jack wills
Just wait a couple of months and it's all half price!!!
I think everything I own was reduced and I only go cinema on Tuesday's and Wednesday's ;)

OP posts:
PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 19/07/2016 21:10

Do it. I'm pretty annoyed with myself that I lost the receipt for a dress from next which I bought 6 days before the sale. It's now on sale at less than half price Envy

HopeArden · 19/07/2016 21:23

Given that it is bugging you enough to post I think you should order another one at the cheaper price and then return the oneyou already have. Definitely get the new one before returning anything!

MiracletoCome · 19/07/2016 21:24

If the Next dress was from the Directory they never bother about the receipt ,it's all electronic and you will get the full price back as it is in the 2 week returns window.

I do always keep receipts along with the free Boden returns labels, all popped in a drawer for when they don't supply one Grin

HopeArden · 19/07/2016 21:26

I have done far worse than this - I bought a dress, then saw it in the sale so reordered and returned the first one. I then wore it to a party with the tag still on and got a refund afterwards Blush
I felt a bit guilty but the dress was so fragile and poorly designed that it wasn't worth keeping, even at sale price.

SuburbanRhonda · 19/07/2016 21:32

I then wore it to a party with the tag still on and got a refund afterwards

Didn't you feel bad that someone might buy it as new after you'd worn it for several hours? I just couldn't do that, no matter how much I tried to justify it to myself afterwards.

BumWad · 19/07/2016 21:33

I do this.

A tenner is a tenner at the end of the day

0pheIia · 19/07/2016 21:35

OP, you don't have to justify your purchases to anyone, so don't rise to it. You're obviously pretty money savvy and I applaud your bargain hunting skills! I'd return and re-buy, definitely. But unsubscribe from those emails and don't check the website again afterwards or you'll just torture yourself to death! Ignore the hoiky judgy pants here - of course you deserve a treat, and you don't have to explain yourself to anyone.

Ailith nothing dishonest whatsoever - customer services have even said it's fine. What's dishonest about getting the best price for something?

orangebird69 · 19/07/2016 21:37

I would. I cancelled and rebooked the same hotel room 4 times last bear before my holiday to New York last year. We're no where near the bread like tbh but why pay more when you don't have to?

SuburbanRhonda · 19/07/2016 21:38

Ignore the hoiky judgy pants here

Too late - the OP has already replied to my judgy posts Smile

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 19/07/2016 21:39

But I can afford it, I could buy 80 of these bags if I wanted

So why post all the stuff about minimum wage and 25hrs a week

If you want the bag get it.
