I'm not rich, far from it, minimum wage 25hours a week
Always wanted a radley picture bag but can't really afford it
Saw it reduced, £229 to £123
Decided to break the bank and buy it, 3 days after it arrives it was reduced to £113 grrrrr
Rang customer services they said they can't refund the difference but I can reorder and return, so I did
Now it's down to £103
Shall I reorder and return again??!! This is getting silly, but I paid on my credit card and every £10 off helps!!
I've got the balance down to £40so if I do it again I'll only owe £30 on my credit card
What would you do???!!!! Don't want to get black balled!!!

OP you don't need to give people an overview of your finances in order to justify your purchase! Yes I would re-purchase the bag and then return the current one. There's no risk really as long as you can afford to buy the cheaper priced bag before sending back the more expensive one.

Enjoy it once you've decided you're keeping it once and for all!

MiracletoCome · 19/07/2016 17:06

As long as you make sure you have one before you return it's fine, and if radley did ban you, though why would they, it wouldn't matter as you would have your bag. Loads of people do this anyway, so don't worry Just do it.

Ilovetorrentialrain · 19/07/2016 17:14

Do It! Why not? £10 is £10 (genius!)

I once bought a dress full price from All Saints to find it was reduced only days later. I called customer services to check the return procedure, explained why, and they refunded the difference very gladly. They have got a fan now and I always associate All Saints with very good customer service.

MrsMac2014 · 19/07/2016 17:16

I hope it's not the one with the gnomes on it lol.
I seems like a lot of bother to keep returning. What about hanging on to it and see if any more comes off it? Like another 50 quid. I like the one with the picture frames, it's quite quirky. I would think it might be the kind of thing that you would get fed up with - no ? Would you get a lot of use out of it? Ha ha I sound like my mother now.
Personally I wouldn't spend that much on a bag, not a criticism though, I'm just tight and like more of a bargain. Have you ever been to a Radley outlet store or TK Maxx? you might get even more off. Good luck x

FXSkip · 19/07/2016 17:17

gymboree as long as that money wasn't earmarked for something more vital you've no need to justify an extravagant purchase to anyone. Return it, get the tenner off and be chuffed with your bargain. Don't listen to the people here who are being unnecessarily rude, or giving you a hard time for buying something for yourself that will bring you a little gleam of happiness. Yes, its just a bag, no its not to everyone's taste but unfortunately that is what makes the modern world go round. Have a Star from me :)

SuburbanRhonda · 19/07/2016 17:30

I work with families that have got into debt.

That's why I'm judgy about people who say they are careful with their money while running up a balance on a credit card on a £7 an hour income.

hollyisalovelyname · 19/07/2016 17:31

I bought a dress and shirts online. They were delivered to my nearest store free.
The next day I got an email from the company about their sale.
Said items were in the sale. Sad
So I went to one of that store and luckily found the same items and bought them. I then returned the online purchases to the store.
I got the items at half price.Smile

JaceLancs · 19/07/2016 17:41

I'm always returning things if they get reduced even further - usually not online though as I prefer high st shopping
It has no relationship to my earnings, savings or credit card limit - I just like feeling I've got s bargain

MouldyPeach · 19/07/2016 17:55

I had to google, all I know of Radley is the little dog thing. Most of the picture bags are not to my taste but this one is adorable. Go for it op, get your bargain!

SuburbanRhonda · 19/07/2016 18:07

The OP says she works 25 hours a week and earns around £10 for an hour and a half's work. That's around £7 an hour, so £175 a week. She's also presumably paying interest on her outstanding credit card balance. All this information is in the OP.

I'm amazed that so many posters are encouraging her to live outside her means.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 19/07/2016 18:09

She also says 'And I have a years wages saved in the bank so I'm not going hungry to buy a bag!'. She doesn't sound like someone who makes a lot of impulse purchases.

Queenbean · 19/07/2016 18:12

If you think of it in cost per wear terms, everytime you don't use it it costs more per wear

So technically you're not any worse off keeping it and paying the extra tenner

SuburbanRhonda · 19/07/2016 18:13

So why isn't she using the savings to pay off her credit card? The interest rates are crippling.

MiracletoCome · 19/07/2016 18:16

Can you see how many are in stock by adding more to the basket, if there are only a couple I would buy now but if there are a lot of them you could hang on a couple of days

Theimpossiblegirl · 19/07/2016 18:22

If it is costing you nothing, do it.

But...this will keep happening as you buy one and return one and then it will be the same 2 bags going back and forth, being reduced each time they get it back unless someone else buys one to break the cycle.

:)

WicksEnd · 19/07/2016 18:24

I do it all the time. I did it recently with Karen millen. I did an on-line chat asked them to just 'refund me the difference and think of the planet' rather than arseing around re ordering, and they did.

MangeTooot · 19/07/2016 18:24

Rhonda - OP has already said she pays the credit card off every month and the balance is currently only £30

SuburbanRhonda · 19/07/2016 18:40

Yes, I can see that post - it's the same one where she says, It's just extravagant for someone on my income.

I completely agree with her on that. Unless she's living somewhere rent and bill-free I just can't see how she can justify spending over £100 on a bag on an income of £175 a week.

And tbh if the OP was just about the ethics of constantly returning a bag in order to get the cheapest price, I do wonder why she shared so much financial information.

Planty18 · 19/07/2016 18:42

I would do it, why not?

chanie44 · 19/07/2016 18:56

I would absolutely repurchase the bag, Op. Whenever I buy something, I always keep the receipt for a couple of weeks in case the item gets reduced.

I recently bought some sandals and they shop then sent me 25% off code, so I returned them and repurchased at the lower price. Even the shop assistant said she would do this.

Why pay more when you don't have to?

Op - we all deserve nice treats once in a while, so if you like the bag, keep it. I don't know what MN seems to have against Radley, I have a couple of items myself.

SparklesandBangs · 19/07/2016 19:28

OP I do this, M&S annoy me with the 20% off days and limited stock, so now if I see something I like I buy it, then when the 20% off day pops up I buy it again and return the first one. Delivery is free to my local store, as are returns. If and when they complain or ban me I'll change my ways.

I have Radley bags, your choice is not one of my favourites but nothing wrong with 1 decent bag, it's not like you are ordering 5 in different colours and running up huge credit card debts (I think the heat is making people grumpy)

kali110 · 19/07/2016 19:37

SuburbanRhonda
If i pay my cc in full every month i don't pay any interest.

Suppose it's up to you, if you can be bothered to keep doing it!
Having worked retail, i've always thought it's kind of cheeky to do this.

Gymboree567 · 19/07/2016 19:46

It's not about my credit card! I don't pay any interest on it, I pay it off every month
Not sure why some people are so bothered that I can afford the bag, maybe they can't!
I can afford the bag
Everyone is entitled to a treat
I don't have to justify myself
And as for sharing financial information, I don't know anyone on here and even if I did I don't care if they know what I earn or how much I have in the bank!
I work in a shop, doesn't take a genius to guess how much I earn

OP posts:
SuburbanRhonda · 19/07/2016 20:04

No one has to guess how much you earn. You've stated it in your OP. And yes I realise now that you said you pay off your credit card every month.

And whether I or anyone else can or can't afford to pay over £100 for a handbag isn't being discussed. This is about you.

Of course treats are important. But whether someone with your income can justify spending over £100 on a handbag is what I would question.

MouldyPeach · 19/07/2016 20:06

Some people are waaay too invested in the finances of strangers on the internet Confused
