Hiding from the smell. Bloody dh

So house guest decides to cook. Shows dh the recipe and is checking off ingredient list together. Recipe has ingredient on that dh knows I absolutely hate in food.
He obviously knows this as when I smell it and ask if it's got it in dh laughs and pretends it hasn't and house guest looks sheepish and says they were just following instructions.

Not only do I hate the taste of this stuff but it smells strong so now I am sitting in my room unable to go find something else.

Dh thinks that I'm rude no doubt.
Aibu to refuse it and sulk in my room? It's late here. I'm annoyed that he's let someone cook food I detest and I'll have to go find more food.

Saffron?

Aimtomisbehave · 19/07/2016 11:50

or clove?

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:50

Sage?

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:50

Thyme?!

TheCatAteMyHomework · 19/07/2016 11:50

They didn't purchase any ingredients. Waited until.we got in then said is this OK to make and checked the ingredients with Dh.
When i heard 'clove' ( there it is) I assumed the discussion was around not putting it in as I hate it so was annoyed to come out of my scent bath to the terrible smell of dettol toothache curry.

Wow that is a huge over reaction. Why is it your DH and house guest's fault? Most people would just say "Oh no not that again! It bloody stinks!" and make a joke of it.

Unless they're in there cooking with crystal meth you sound completely strange very very unreasonable.

ThoraGruntwhistle · 19/07/2016 11:50

For the love of chilli powder, you have to say what it is. It can't possibly be that 'outing' to reveal what spice you don't like.

ThoraGruntwhistle · 19/07/2016 11:51

Damn, X post.

user1468488303 · 19/07/2016 11:51

Why did you have it in the house then if you hate it so much?

I feel sorry for the guest, who appears to be a pawn in you fighting with your husband.

Aimtomisbehave · 19/07/2016 11:51

why do you have any in the house if you don't like it?

Aimtomisbehave · 19/07/2016 11:51

FreshwaterSelkie · 19/07/2016 11:52

Minced puppy? Pus from a cyst? Rotting pigs trotters?

Must be something gross beyond the ken of man to cause such an over-reaction.

JacketPoTayTo · 19/07/2016 11:52

dawn but the OP hasn't mentioned having a similar condition has she? So in her case, it does come off as a being a bit precious. Sorry you struggle in that regard but it isn't really relevant here.

OP your guest must feel horribly awkward and it's very rude of both you and your DH to put them in that position. Can't you just have it out with DH in private since he is the one who knowingly made something (or allowed your guest to make something) that you don't like? Seems like your guest was just trying to do a nice thing and now you're sulking.

TheCatAteMyHomework · 19/07/2016 11:52

I haven't stomped. I'm hiding from the smell. I have texted to say thanks for cooking but Dh is a weird person for making you cook clove curry.

Onesieisthequeensselfie · 19/07/2016 11:54

You've texted your houseguest who is in your kitchen from your bedroom?! Grin

Horehound · 19/07/2016 11:54

Amazing! To not type CLOVE in the OP. Well done!

I love clove, it's just like Christmas!

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:54

Goddamnit the one spice/herb I didn't fucking name.

Fucking clove

lljkk · 19/07/2016 11:55

I only want to know what the objectionable ingredient is . Cumin? Blue cheese? Coffee? Vanilla?

You can always plot some revenge, there must be some smell/taste they both dislike & you could cook up a storm with it next week.

user1468488303 · 19/07/2016 11:55

It's not clove curry, you only use a tiny amount in a whole curry, it can't possibly smell that strong.
You are being very childish.

FreshwaterSelkie · 19/07/2016 11:55

What an awkward, unkind thing to do to your house guest. Still, on the bright side, that's probably one house guest less for you to worry about in future - he's not likely to darken your towels again this century!

JoffreyBaratheon · 19/07/2016 11:55

Ah bummer. I thought it might be prawn crisps.

lljkk · 19/07/2016 11:55

oops, xpost.
I guess you have to hide from parties & mulled wine at Xmas, too, then?

Horehound · 19/07/2016 11:56

Clove curry. Lol they must've used 2 or 3 individual sprigs. Ffs

TheCatAteMyHomework · 19/07/2016 11:56

It's in the house for who knows what reason.
To torture me I assume.

A pawn in my argument? I have said to them I'm sorry. They'll not care. I joked saying I could make Dh a clove sandwich.

So, the OP's husband thinks it's hilarious to put something into a dish, that could be missed out, because it's funny to upset someone and not bullying at all, and the OP gets grief because they don't immediately say what the flavour is?

Personally I can take or leave clove, but it is very strong!

I'd find the whole, 'let's put something in that means that TheCatAteMyHomework can't eat the meal and watch the look on her face' very unpleasant. Did they film you on their phones?
