Hiding from the smell. Bloody dh

So house guest decides to cook. Shows dh the recipe and is checking off ingredient list together. Recipe has ingredient on that dh knows I absolutely hate in food.
He obviously knows this as when I smell it and ask if it's got it in dh laughs and pretends it hasn't and house guest looks sheepish and says they were just following instructions.

Not only do I hate the taste of this stuff but it smells strong so now I am sitting in my room unable to go find something else.

Dh thinks that I'm rude no doubt.
Aibu to refuse it and sulk in my room? It's late here. I'm annoyed that he's let someone cook food I detest and I'll have to go find more food.

Coriander ?

Scribblegirl · 19/07/2016 11:45

Overreaction. My best friend (who I was living with at the time) once told me I wasn't allowed to have sardines on toast - in a house I was paying just as much rent for as she was - because of the smell. I did it anyway and cooked with all the kitchen windows and the back door open. We wound up having a proper falling out that day because she flounced off to her room Grin

Seriously, have a

Dawndonnaagain · 19/07/2016 11:46

For those of you being horribly rude and making accusations of preciousness over a smell, I have an ASC. There are smells which will make me vomit. Not heave, not feel sick, literally throw up. I'm not precious, I am very unfortunately hyper sensitive to certain smells or combinations of smells.

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:46

Turmeric?

TheCatAteMyHomework · 19/07/2016 11:46

It's not like it was already made and I flounced. Dh had the time to say ah just miss that out or whatever but laughed and conspired.
It's the conspiring.

None of those.

Oh FGS, just make some toast and stop being a secretive drama queen

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:46

Cayenne?

NeedACleverNN · 19/07/2016 11:46

Hmm why are you being secretive?

It's like like its unicorn shit ground down to powder by blind nuns and bless by eunch monks

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:46

Paprika?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 19/07/2016 11:46

Coriander?
I love it but I believe loads of people find it revolting. Apparently it's some chemical / enzyme thing. You can't make yourself like coridander.

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:47

I already said that.

Cajun?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 19/07/2016 11:47

Maybe the guest likes it? Maybe DH didn't want to be rude when they offered to cook? Presumably they went out and bought stuff as I presume you wouldn't have the spice in the house. Is it coriander, btw?

Honestly, is there something else going on behind this?

Just get something out the freezer for you and the children or make a toasted sandwich or something

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:47

Harissa paste?

GirlWithTheLionHeart · 19/07/2016 11:48

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:48

Caraway Seeds?

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:48

Fennel?

ThoraGruntwhistle · 19/07/2016 11:49

It is patronising of them to try to hide an ingredient in the food knowing you hate it, but it's also childish to stomp around holding your nose.

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:49

Ginger??? MUST BE GINGER

Aimtomisbehave · 19/07/2016 11:49

Wasabi?

Dozer · 19/07/2016 11:49

Your DH was inconsiderate, but unless you have an actual allergy like a Pp you're being OTT over the smell especially.

YellowShockedFace · 19/07/2016 11:49

Water?

Janefromdowntheroad · 19/07/2016 11:49

I don't think you are overreacting at all.

I physically cannot stomach the smell of Parmesan cheese. It makes my stomach turn and my throat gag. I'm a perfectly reasonable intelligent adult. But I'd be pissed off if DP put it in my food and my house stunk of it

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:49

Oregano?

NedStarksHead · 19/07/2016 11:49

Star Anise?
