To never have a poo again?

I had surgery yesterday to sort out my post-childbirth piles (that have been there since dd1 was born 12 years ago!).

The pain isn't too bad, at the moment, but I have a feeling that could change when it's time 'to go'. And I have an awful feeling that time could be near.

AIBU to eat nothing but Imodium for the rest of my life and avoid this terrible ordeal?

Movicol. Two sachets a day, one morning and one evening. Once you are a bit better, you can reduce the dose. Lots of liquids v

I think I'm all good now. Just went again, and it was fine, and didn't look like so much of a horror movie. I'm on a roll.

This is the thread that could just keep on giving Grin

Oh well done, I do feel for you.
After having dc1, I didn't poo for nearly 4 weeks Shock I felt so so poorly with it, that last week was agonising, I had backache so badly (although still too embarrassed to go to the doctor) and I cried in pain the first time.
Hope you've made it through the day okay Flowers

Dont use Senna: awful cramps.

I know I've said it twice: old school Milk of Magnesia, it never fails.

JMJ1 · 17/07/2016 19:17

Surprised no one's mentioned dark chocolate. That's my mum's tip after 6 babies. I've had four and it's worked a treat every time.

NoahVale · 17/07/2016 19:25

did someone mention lube?
Can I hijack and ask if I should kw jelly my derriere ?, painful bot issues Blush

Honeypot1 · 17/07/2016 19:35

Feeling your pain.... Here's a tip; warm water in a squeezy bottle (think 1l sports type water bottle). A teensy drop of lavender oil mixed in. When you're on the loo, scared but ready, start squirting the water on yourself. It helps relax, picture it as a lubricant to any trouble or pain. So it might be partly mind over matter?! Regardless, it's helped me on several occasions (with post birth tears down there) and I believe the lavender not only calms & smells nice, it also aids healing.

I also second the school, and find breathing in through the nose, out through mouth helps!
Ooh, and expensive LUXURY toilet roll. This is temporary, and you are worth it!
Speedy recovery my friend.

Funnily enough, I usually have nice quilted bog roll, but stupidly last time I went shopping I got some scratchy recycled stuff. I am now seeing the error of my ways. Hopefully I'll feel ok to drive tomorrow, and I'll treat myself. The car hasn't moved since Thursday.

Well done OP! (I've suffered for years with bunged up-ness)

Domino's Pizza always loosens me up. Christ knows what their "special ingredient" is...

apatheticfallacy · 17/07/2016 20:24

Dominos had the same effect on me too!

MerryMarigold · 17/07/2016 20:31

Noah, yup I started using ky after a third deg tear. It was so much easier. Kept it on top of toilet. Who knows what visitors thought Grin? Xx

CakeNinja · 17/07/2016 20:34

Apple juice gets me running to the loo every time. I love it but it seems to just go right through me.
A couple of big glasses, I think it must be full of fibre!

glueandstick · 17/07/2016 20:55

Well done you. I'm so proud. It's a bloody awful thing. One of the surgeons I used to work for said that horrid constipation was up there with the things they'd be most compassionate about as it makes you utterly miserable in every dimension.

sukindred · 17/07/2016 21:50

I have a chronic anal fissure so you have all my sympathy. (other women get botox in their face, I had to have it up my arse. Twice. Administered by a stunningly good looking surgeon that I couldn't flirt with because of what he'd seen....) I use rolled up towels under my feet to get them to the right height and a combination of lactulose and fybogel mixed together which seems to work for me. Orange fybogel is much better than the lemon one I think, though I do pretty much gulp it as quick as I can before it starts swelling. Probably too much information, but I also find it's much firmer If id I had pasta the night before so if it's spaghetti for tea i dose up on fybogel at bedtime because I Was told to aim always for the consistency of toothpaste......

avamiah · 17/07/2016 23:12

You poor thing.
I know exactly how you feel as I went through this myself 7 years ago.
Don't despair as it will get better. You need to get Lidocaine gel/cream , from your Gp or online .Its fantastic and really soothing and it will numb the area so it won't be too painful when you go.Also don't forget ice packs.I personally wouldn't advise a bath yet, unless it's a cool one,so stick to a shower.
You'll be back to normal in a couple of weeks, keep drinking plenty of water and i used to take Lactulose , it softens the stools but maybe take advice on that one as it is a laxative, so speak to your Gp first .
Hope I've helped .

avamiah · 17/07/2016 23:16

@madcapcat,
Omg,
I had that procedure as well.
It's bloody horrible isn't it.
My surgeon used to say , deep breath, little prick coming.lol.
I wasn't laughing .
It did the trick though.
