To never have a poo again?

I had surgery yesterday to sort out my post-childbirth piles (that have been there since dd1 was born 12 years ago!).

The pain isn't too bad, at the moment, but I have a feeling that could change when it's time 'to go'. And I have an awful feeling that time could be near.

AIBU to eat nothing but Imodium for the rest of my life and avoid this terrible ordeal?

Oh, ditch the poxy Fybogel. Unless you drink gallons of liquid it sets in your gut like concrete.

You need a really effective stool softener. You can get Movicol on prescription but you can buy it too. Three sachets should do it.

EsmeraldaEllaBella · 16/07/2016 20:17

What is a numbing spray and why has noone told me about it before??

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 16/07/2016 20:18

Don't worry I haven't been taking any opiate based painkillers, nice though they are, I really don't need to be bunged up right now.

Problem is, I've had the constant feeling of needing to go since I came around yesterday, I think that's just the sensation that the op leaves you with. So I don't know if I really need to go, or whether my bum is playing tricks on me.

I have a small stool (no pun intended). I shall rest my feet upon it on my next attempt.

Incidentally, I'm AMAZED they didn't send you home with some already. Fybogel! Jeez Hmm

StarlingMurmuration · 16/07/2016 20:18

I had lactulose after my rectocele repair, but still hadn't done a poo three days after the surgery, so I was prescribed laxatives and they worked. It wasn't great but it was actually less horrendous than my first post-baby poo.

liquidrevolution · 16/07/2016 20:20

I find leaning back while sitting down on the loo with your feet on a stepstool thingy usually does the trick. Plus breathe and relax.

Failing that try squatting.

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 16/07/2016 20:20

Pooing IN THE BATH?

Dear god. I take it I should probably do that after I've washed my hair, not before?

When I had an anal fissure I found applying a wee bit of Lansinoh cracked nipple cream around the affected area worked well as a sort of lubricant as well as a healing thing.

All I can say is good luck. And maybe eat loads of Marks and Spencer's fizzy sweets. They've got Sorbital in - sneeze and everything just slips right out.

pudcat · 16/07/2016 20:25

Eat a whole packet of sugar free Werthers.!!!!!!!

Wolpertinger · 16/07/2016 20:27

Ditch the Fybogel, possibly the world's worst laxative and send out for some emergency Movicol. Much better.

They prob have given you some opiate based painkillers in the anaesthetic if you haven't gone but the weird feeling of needing to go prob is related to the surgery.

Good luck!

StillSmallVoiceOfCalm · 16/07/2016 20:29

Pooing in the bath is fine. You can pretend you are having a waterbirth.

mathanxiety · 16/07/2016 20:29

Wink The bath is not for general washing purposes. Fill it and lie there with the only intention of pooing.

I had a thrombosed hemmorhoid after DS was born. It was lanced and I was told to get some stool softener and to drink lots of water. Worked a treat.

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 16/07/2016 20:39

Grin at pretending it's a waterbirth.

I just googled to see if there's any pharmacies open anywhere nearby. The nearest one is over half an hour away. I still feel really wonky after the op so not sure I'm up for that. This might need to become tomorrow's problem.

But the fybrogel isn't worth bothering with then? Because it was quite nasty to drink last night so if it's not going to do anything I won't put myself through that again tonight.

Reds idea sounds good.
You've probably got nothing to come out yet with the fasting before the op.

Summerwood1 · 16/07/2016 20:42

Plenty of fruit and veg. Good luck!

LanaorAna1 · 16/07/2016 20:44

I know people with endemetriosis who crap in the bath, they swear by it to relieve pain.

Rocking back and forth on the loo with a footstool also helps bring it on.

You want the sphincter to open, whence it will slide out gracefully, as in the launching of a royal ship, rather than pushing so it rips out of you like a sidewinder from an anti-aircraft gun.

JapaneseSlipper · 16/07/2016 20:44

Ah you poor thing.

I'm thinking that if you had a nice long soak, then let most of the water out when you thought you might be close, the "pooing in the bath" thing could be less gross. Sort of like a sitz bath.

Good luck!

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 16/07/2016 20:49

I may have failed on the fruit and veg front. So far since the op I have eaten:

A vegeburger and chips from the chippy.
Two bags of malteasers that my neighbour dropped round.
A microwave pizza.
A Chinese takeaway.

I don't really feel capable of cooking. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

The Chinese had some vegetables in it.

Think about what you're eating at the moment as well. LOTS of veg and fruit, lots of watery food and glasses of water. Veg soup made with things like leeks, broccoli, courgettes etc is good, and adding some pulses such as butter beans is even better - i.e. food that is high in soluble fibre and water content. Makes poo that is very soft and easy to pass.

SealSong · 16/07/2016 20:52

x post!

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 16/07/2016 20:54

Oh dear. I've definitely fucked up there, haven't I?

What surgery did you have?

There are multiple procedures the most intrusive being having them removed under a general. The rest of the surgeries are way less invasive.

Depending on what surgery you've had will have some bearing on how you feel when you have some bowel movements. What ever you do don't strain.

CoconuttyOil · 16/07/2016 20:56

The main ingredient in BOOTEA is senna. Seems like an expensive way to take it.

I had a rectal examination under GA yesterday and have been left with a painful and hard external pile that definitely wasn't there when I went into surgery. This thread has just reminded me of my instructions on discharge to take laxatives so just popped a couple of senna tablets and a Movicol sachet - the stuff makes me gag but I was brave and drank it. Fingers crossed for some action in the morning. I'll be using a footstool and glycerin suppository to help things along if necessary.

chinam · 16/07/2016 21:00

Never did I think I'd be following a thread hoping to hear positive news about a grown adult pooing but, here I am. You can poo it, op 💩
