To never have a poo again?

I had surgery yesterday to sort out my post-childbirth piles (that have been there since dd1 was born 12 years ago!).

The pain isn't too bad, at the moment, but I have a feeling that could change when it's time 'to go'. And I have an awful feeling that time could be near.

AIBU to eat nothing but Imodium for the rest of my life and avoid this terrible ordeal?

The procedure I had was called HALO - ligation of the arteries or something. I deliberately zoned out when he was going through the finer details so I'm not too sure what happened.

Oh dear!
I was fearful after a ELCS about the first poo. You must be terrified!
YY to lactulose, plenty of it.
Good luck!

flanjabelle · 16/07/2016 21:04

Get some senna and some lactulose. Soften it to fuck. You can do it op!

becciandbump · 16/07/2016 21:04

Try some linseed on your cereal and if all fails a glycerin suppositrie

thenightsky · 16/07/2016 21:06

I ate a 4 pack of nectarines when in a similar situation. It did the trick.

SanityAssassin · 16/07/2016 21:06

apricots - lots of.

Sunshineonacloudyday · 16/07/2016 21:10

Take it slow and try putting you're legs on a small chair when on the toilet so you are squatting it may relieve some of the pain. Flowers

springwaters · 16/07/2016 21:10

m and s sugar free wine gums or sugar free fruit gums

Go in the bath.

Groovee · 16/07/2016 21:12

Breathe like you are blowing up a balloon. It will help your bowel relax and let go!

makingmiracles · 16/07/2016 21:14

Glycerin suppositories are your friend, go get some now, moisten under a tap and pop one in, they say they take 15--60 mins to work, they take about 3mins for me!! Best things ever invented!

ConfuciousSayWhat · 16/07/2016 21:20

Laxido and take the impaction dose and drink lots of water

Make sure you warn everyone to use other facilities for 24 hours as you won't be budging!

CiaoVerona · 16/07/2016 21:21

Oh, right I know the surgery ,you had the piles pushed back in and stitched internally, eventually the blood supply will die and cause them to fall off.

There is a difference between someone whose piles originate from constipation and straining on the toilet and piles from pregnancy.
The former has bad habits that may impact their recovery the latter not so much, as long as you pass normally I don't think you'll have problems, its straining and constipation that cause problems post surgery.

I recall a thread about someone having this surgery was it you?

NorksAreMessy · 16/07/2016 21:21

apparently gummy bears are the thing to do the trick!

accidentalpirate · 16/07/2016 21:26

Have you gone yet op?

Try j breathing from hypnobirthing, you breath the baby poo out and visualise it coming down. I'm still using it to poo and I had my baby 9 months ago by c section. Grin

WeeM · 16/07/2016 21:35

I can't believe I'm sitting a Saturday night with a glass of wine reading about someone needing to poo! But I so wish I had seen this when i had my c section lol! I haven't nothing to add that others haven't suggested-just wishing you luck when the time comes Smile

whathavewedonenow99 · 16/07/2016 21:44

Stupid, stupid question I know - but why do women worry about the first poo after a c section? Surely the damage ( and I say that from experience) only happens after a vaginal birth.

RubbishMantra · 16/07/2016 21:52

As someone who suffers from constipation, I call it "commit to the shit".

Take in a book, tablet, anything to keep you occupied, and drink a LOT of water. Have they given you any suppositories?

Thinking of that film "Child of God" often helps, as in one of the scenes, you see the main character have a poo and proceeds to wipe his bum with a stick! Shock

Proginoskes · 16/07/2016 21:53

Speaking from my own experience...celery. Eat as much celery as you can bear to. The stuff is nearly entirely cellulose and water and (sorry for TMI) quite literally goes right through me, sweeping everything else in its path. If you really can't stand celery another option is any osmotic laxative, which will draw water into your colon and increase both the bulk and the softness of the stool. Magnesium sulfate is the one I use (I'm in the States, not sure if it's available over the counter there) but n.b.: a little (like maybe an ounce or two) goes a long time way.

ladylambkin · 16/07/2016 21:54

I agree with pp ...glycerin suppositories are good for getting things moving

DonkeyOaty · 16/07/2016 21:54

opiate painkillers => slowed gut motility => concrete poo.

Bellyrub1980 · 16/07/2016 21:54

DonkeyOaty · 16/07/2016 21:55

(that was to poster blah99)

EmNetta · 16/07/2016 22:01

Coconutty Oil - Agree it's difficult to get down Movicol, but years of experience means I manage by adding fruit juice to the mix- Orange or Cranberry or Red Grape disguise the taste well.
Hope tomorrow's easier, and for OP too.

Wolpertinger · 16/07/2016 22:03

Whathave - big cut across your abdomen makes it very very painful to push. Plus the shedload of load of opioid painkillers you will have been given for said big cut means your poo will likely have turned to concrete.
