To never have a poo again?

I had surgery yesterday to sort out my post-childbirth piles (that have been there since dd1 was born 12 years ago!).

The pain isn't too bad, at the moment, but I have a feeling that could change when it's time 'to go'. And I have an awful feeling that time could be near.

AIBU to eat nothing but Imodium for the rest of my life and avoid this terrible ordeal?

Good job.

RoganJosh · 17/07/2016 07:33

Well done! Now you need to make sure the next time is easier. So a tonne of fruit and veg/water/pulses etc.

RaeSkywalker · 17/07/2016 07:39

Phew, well done OP.

UnGoogleable · 17/07/2016 08:08

Oh bless you, I hope you're ok. The first ones always the hardest (in both senses if the word!).

Keep taking a stool softener until you're fully sorted. Send look after yourself Flowers

UnGoogleable · 17/07/2016 08:09

Excuse the typos - bloody iPad thinks it knows better than me!

AnnetteCurtin · 17/07/2016 08:59

This was almost like a real time birth thread. Congrats on the happy event. Whatcha gonna call it OP? Grin

OrangeSquashTallGlass · 17/07/2016 09:10

I'm so happy for you!! Flowers

MyCatsHateMLMtoo · 17/07/2016 09:14

So pleased the eagle finally landed Grin, OP.

I recently changed my diet (LC) but experienced constipation as my digestion struggled to cope without sugar for the first time ever Hmm. I was prescribed lactulose but it contains sugar Sad which I am trying to avoid. I eventually went and had a session of colonic irrigation. Wow, it was amazing. Thankfully, digestion is since improving but have booked another CI session for next week. Can't wait Grin.

There was an article in the press this week about how going to the loo people don't squat as they naturally should the body is designed so squatting works

DS2 stands on the toilet seat and squats. He's not like other children.

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 17/07/2016 10:07

Thank you all. I couldn't have done it without you.

Poor thing!

Seriously, buy some Movicol/Laxido OTC and take a sachet or two per day to keep everything extra soft until you heal. It's really gentle - no bloating/wind (like Lactulose) or horrible gut cramps (like Senna, prunes, apricots, etc).

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 17/07/2016 12:22

Ah, I have bad cramps today, would that be the senna? Feeling really rough today, it's times like this being a single parent sucks.

How old are the kids?

FadedRed · 17/07/2016 12:39

Oh Well Done! What a relief for us all. 🚽💩😅🍾

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 17/07/2016 12:41

They are 6 and 12. Don't think the 12 year old is awake yet! My 6 year old is being quite good but she's got endless energy and I promised to do something today as I wasn't feeling too bad yesterday, so thought I'd be feeling better today. I can't move though. And the dog needs walking :(

OP posts:
JapaneseSlipper · 17/07/2016 13:12

Well done OP.

Hope you can get a friend round to walk the dog - or an emergency dog walker? Helpful neighbour? xx

purplevase4 · 17/07/2016 13:30

I know it sounds disgusting but can you sit in the bath and go? I did that the first time I went after giving birth. I know you've been once now but it will probably stay tender for a while. Warm water might ease things.

Poor you.

BMW6 · 17/07/2016 14:58

DH shat in the bath after his piles op years ago. Was advised to by surgeon. He says go for it..........

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 17/07/2016 14:59

I couldn't! God knows I tried last night. I think now the first one is out of the way, it won't be so bad. I'm nearly over the trauma of it.

CoconuttyOil · 17/07/2016 17:17

Great news Littlefluffyclouds glad you've managed to get the first one out of the way! I had success too with my Movicol/senna combo last night & a glycerin suppository this morning to shift it. More Movicol and plenty of water for me today.

labazs · 17/07/2016 17:24

please do not stop yourself going it only makes it worse and youll end up in hospital having enemas believe me ive been there make sure you take plenty of fruit and drink lots of water eat fibre to keep you soft

Alasdair53 · 17/07/2016 17:29

Paracetamol is also likely to bung you up.

youarenotkiddingme · 17/07/2016 17:42

Fig roll biscuits!!!

Glad you managed to go this morning. I had a fistula op a few years ago and remember the fear of pooing afterwards. It wasn't as painful as the abscess that had wind it's way through my buttock the previous weeks though.

Stool softeners are the best bet.

pollymere · 17/07/2016 18:05

I couldn't poo after having my daughter...I got given salt laxative that you squirt up your bottom. I was advised to take double normal dose. I felt like I was passing a golf ball but the stuff really helped. Try and get some just so that your first post op poo is a little easier.

NecklessMumster · 17/07/2016 18:10

Another hint is to poo in a bowl of warm water inside the bath, rather than fill the whole bath up, and easier to empty and clean afterwards.
