To never have a poo again?

I had surgery yesterday to sort out my post-childbirth piles (that have been there since dd1 was born 12 years ago!).

The pain isn't too bad, at the moment, but I have a feeling that could change when it's time 'to go'. And I have an awful feeling that time could be near.

AIBU to eat nothing but Imodium for the rest of my life and avoid this terrible ordeal?

whathavewedone I can only speak from my experience of a c section and I haven't name changed back after another thread but I was so scared because my stomach muscles had been cut. This meant I couldn't push AT ALL. I ended up in complete agony, worse then the contractions I had before the emergency c-section. I can still remember being bent over double sobbing in agony because I was so constipated. OP I suggest going asap because the longer you leave it the worse it is

foreverandalways · 16/07/2016 22:11

No paracetamol....fluids, fluids and more fluids.....small meals and often....try to keep a diary..take care X

MerryMarigold · 16/07/2016 22:14

I can recommend KY jelly round the anus to help it slip out more easily. I had a 3rd degree tear which didn't heal for 3 months and this was a lifesaver. Also a wooden spoon to bite on helps.

YellowBucket · 16/07/2016 22:31

I realise I need to get out more but I keep checking back for an update.
I was terrified enough going after a colonoscopy. Hope all goes well. (At a loss for poo related cheerleading terms!)

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 16/07/2016 22:34

I feel like I have failed you all.

I had another go, with my feet elevated on a jumbo pack of bog roll, pretending I was blowing up a balloon.

I thought I was getting somewhere, but like a shy tortoise it disappeared :(

I think I will have to wait until tomorrow when I can get to the chemist for some hardcore laxatives.

Adarajames · 16/07/2016 22:38

Massage across the arches of your feet, reflex points for insides, almost instant cure for friends heavy morphine induced constipation!

I have recurring anal fissures as a result of extreme laxatives prescribed prior to endo surgery, I know the screaming - sobbing pain far too well ShockSad

ModreB · 16/07/2016 22:39

I delayed a poo after the same proceedure. I then got an infection in the wound.

It was hell.

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 16/07/2016 22:39

Ciao - no I haven't posted about having the op before. I probably should have name changed for this one really.

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 16/07/2016 22:40

Does massaging my own feet do the trick? It's either that or training the dog to do it.

OP posts:
Littlefluffyclouds81 · 16/07/2016 22:41

Oh god oh god, infection in the wound. I don't want that.

I normally would happily encourage the use of painkillers, but would really try to avoid them as they make it harder to go.

Water, water and water. Try not to think about it - I know it seems impossible, but anxiety doesn't help.

Don't strain, if you can't go - you can't go. Wait and try again later.

goingtotown · 16/07/2016 22:45

Don't take any painkillers, they will just slow everything down.Tomorrow morning drink hot strong coffee. When you're on the loo rub the base of your spine.

RaeSkywalker · 16/07/2016 22:48

I'm on meds for HG that cause constipation. I feel your pain (literally). I ended up at out of hours once because I was in so much pain. They gave me some very heavy duty laxatives that really helped. I can't really add any advice above what has already been said- I do find that moving about helps if you aren't too sore. I wiggle my hips like I'm hula hooping Blush lots of water too.

Davesview · 16/07/2016 23:11

There was an article in the press this week about how going to the loo people don't squat as they naturally should the body is designed so squatting works best ...the solution is a small (no pun intended) stool to put your legs on when doing a number two, would this help some of you ?

mathanxiety · 16/07/2016 23:12

Can you lay your hands on prunes or prune juice?

bluehouse · 16/07/2016 23:16

whathave - after my c-section it hurt to take a deep breath, sneeze, cough, roll over, and when it was time to poo, oh dear god. All the muscles that had been cut were trying to do their own thing, it was agony. The midwives recommend pressing a pillow against your wound to try to help, but it didn't help. I kept delaying. In the end, after failed medication from both ends, I required hands on assistance - don't ask for details. shudder.

Notmymonkeysnotmycircus · 16/07/2016 23:18

Take a walk around a shop, preferably one miles away from a toilet. Works for me every time....

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 16/07/2016 23:18

I don't drink coffee. I'm not even sure I could force one back for the purposes of this exercise. Don't have any prune related items. I've got a mahoosive plastic tub full of medicines, and there's nothing useful in there either. I've just heard my neighbour get home, she's having a night of passion with some bloke from the internet but I might phone her and see if she's got anything that will help.

A packet of walnuts. Has me shitting liquid in no time. Honestly I think I could crap through the hole in a polo mint with those bad boys.

RexMyDarling · 16/07/2016 23:25

Never felt so glad I've got crohns and never have any trouble going!!

My top tip after surgery to fix anal fissue is stuff some anasol suppositories up there so when it does come out its creamy and almost soothing Wink

Also you can get lidocaine local anathestic from the docs that numbs everything very nicely!

AlpacaLypse · 16/07/2016 23:26

Okay, I tried this and it worked. Link your hands and hold them above your head, while in standard sitting position on bog. Apparently very successful with 8th Army in Western Desert back in 1943. Passed on to me by Dad. Unlike a lot of his suggestions it worked.

If it doesn't work for you, was worth a try.

Hugs.

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 16/07/2016 23:31

I shall add linking my hands above my head to my repertoire of comedy actions.

I had the op in 2009 and after 4 days ended up in a&e having an enema 😳, two c sections later and I can honestly say childbirth via section is far less painful and less traumatic than pooing after a pile removal operation! Would never ever go through that again

OrangeSquashTallGlass · 16/07/2016 23:40

Don't take senna!

My nurse said it can make you gassy and bloated whereas lactulous doesn't.

You don't really need the added complication of a day spent farting to confuse matters when you already don't know if you really need a poo or not.
